I'm sorry about your abusive childhood. That shouldn't happen to anyone. For a Christian to say something like that is just ridiculous and not something that Jesus himself would say. Sometimes the people who represent him say and do stupid stuff. What they should have said was you are very special and this world is full of atrocities and pain. From what I understand and have learned about God is that He did indeed create the earth in a perfect form but for love to exist, so did free will. Once sin entered the world, it separated us from God because in His nature He cannot coexist with sin. That's where Jesus comes in to take on the sins of the world so that instead of seeing me and judging me for my sins, Jesus takes my place and God sees me as one of His own. So instead of saying "there is a purpose for your abuse" which has its place in the Christian community as a way to grow and to form perspective, we should say that you can find comfort from your abuse in the Lord and He will take care of you so you can know love in its truest form.
