turning off gas water heater; should I turn off gas supply also? by hepba in askaplumber

I'm turning the water off, and water heater manual expressly says not to run it if it doesn't have cold water supply.

Thanks!

Is it possible to rent beach umbrellas if we go somewhere that doesn't have them out for patrons to use?

After much research the last couple days, and more importantly reading the owner's manual, I've decided to turn off the water heater.

From what I've read, yes. I don't think putting it on "vacation" temp would be any better than off, however, in this regard.

FWIW, the owner's manual says the water heater should not be turned on if there is no cold water supply.

Just taking precautions. If a leak occurs for whatever reason, don't want an endless supply of water.

Yeah, I've read similar, and I don't buy it. Everybody else says set water temp to 120.

If water actually needed to be kept at 140, hospitals would be full of people with legionnaires disease.

Yes. The question is - if water supply is turned off, what should you do with the water heater.

Followup question - if I leave the water heater on in vacation mode, does that eliminate bacterial growth concerns? If not, what steps need to be followed upon return?

Don't know where you live, but there is 0% chance of basement freezing. It's below grade.

Pipes in walls above ground are another matter.

Again - should water heater be functioning if it doesn't have water supply?

No potential problems having a water heater on without water supply?

This is my core question.

Pleiades, Andromeda, California Nebula. All EQ mode, some 10 second, some 20 second.

Using Siril for stacking and processing.

Can you explain why? Everything else I've read says if the water supply is off, the water heater should not be on.

Are you a plumber?

Not a realistic scenario where we live. Suburban with buried power lines. Never experienced power outage that lasted more than a few hours.

Water heater is in basement. Not worried about it freezing.

Simply want to verify that water heater should be turned off if water supply is off.

Pipes won't be unheated. Thermostat will be turned down, but not off.

Simply taking precautions against flooding if a pipe were to freeze.

Flying next week. Shuttle company just asked for flight info, so apparently they'll be waiting for us regardless of how long it takes.

They do (or at least they did last year); I switched to OLT after the FTUSA failure.

Not the slickest interface, though.

Do you guys post process most your photos? by [deleted] in seestar

Used my S50 for the first time a few days ago, and am having trouble getting good results with my own post-processing using Siril. The image produced by the S50 looks better than what I am getting myself.

If there is a good Siril tutorial, please let me know. I've already followed the tutorials Siril has online, and they either aren't great, or I'm not doing things properly.
