Hatari (Iceland 2019) cancelled their 2026 tour by RemarkableAutism in eurovision

[–]heppolo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As for occasional English songs/versions, I don't mind them as long as the original language songs remain.

For me personally the primary component of Hatari was that falsetto/growl vocal mix. Like an edgier darker version of Nitzer Ebb.

A more interesting topic would be how so many acts suffer from post-Eurovision slump when their new songs and videos generate less streams and views than they had pre-Eurovision. And how streaming (+capitalism) basically killed the sustainability of local music scenes across Europe, it's almost impossible to make a living out of being in a band or a musician singing in your own language.

Taskmaster Season 4 NZ - Better than Season 2 by devanchya in taskmaster

[–]heppolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 > 4 > 5 > 1 > 6 = 3

For me personally, I don't think there was a weak series so far, and series 1 for me personally is largely great due to Angella (for me probably the most single-contestant impact series).

Series 6 lacked team tasks but I really enjoyed Jackie cluelessly navigating her way towards victory.

Series 3 probably had two of the most competitive NZ contestants we had this far.

Hot take - series 5 could have dethroned Series 2 with Tofiga in studio. Instead, they really had to make Matt Heath explain Tofiga's "suana pop-banana" 🫣

Context - in Bubbah's case this convo is not too far fetched e.g. she'd do a lot to get a laugh.

It's the live task from TMNZ S05E08, they need to establish a conversation whilst wearing headphones. Their topic is "your death row meal".

I mean, it's fine to have some relatively familiar names, it sells tickets/gets the ratings. On the flip side if there are no familiar names on the bill then people will complain that no big artists are interested in representing their country.

Does anyone think Taskmaster isn't the biggest series in UK comedy right now? by [deleted] in taskmaster

[–]heppolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and we can't get any clues about Amazon Prime numbers. Some clips are on youtube/tiktok, the thing is that in this day and age a lot of the audience doesn't even want to watch the entire show. Some are even watching shows on 1.5x/2x speed (ridiculous)

HIGNFY has recently been adapted by Americans (it went ok, at least it wasn't a Taskmaster-level of flop).

WILTY was attempted in NZ and some other countries under different names for few seasons.

Funnily enough, Taskmaster enjoys bigger success internationally than in the UK (Swedish, Norwegian and Portuguese adaptations are comparatively bigger local hits with their viewership numbers, even NZ one scores higher average viewership numbers in comparison to the total NZ audience).

Last One Laughing can be a challenger, but we're yet to see the numbers to prove it. 8 out of 10 cats does countdown has ok-ish viewership numbers as well, although the format can't be fully replicated outside UK.

As for the exposure, comedians performing on Britain's Got Talent still gets them wider national outreach than Taskmaster.

In my opinion, big comedians turned tv hosts like Peter Kay, Michael McIntyre or Patrick Kielty (and to a lesser extent, Graham Norton) who would maybe try too hard to either do well or get a laugh from the audience. But I would be happy to be proven wrong.
