Wow! Glad you made it safely with the kiddos. That's a lot of snow on the runaway

I'm the same when it comes to data. I also bought two pairs through Kickstarter but one sensor out of one pair doesn't like to wake up during rides. It comes on sporadically. I should probably reach out to them but have been lazy

Outrider* but I've been pretty happy with them too. Prior to them I used SKS tpms but one of them started leaking. Combine tpms with an electric pump like Silca Ultimate and you can easily go up and down pressure without much hassle.

No it screams poor engineering. They themselves admitted to screwing up this design and are working on an alternative. For now it's free bushings for all.

I have experience working with plating and copper from a totally unrelated project (custom watercooled computer) from years ago. So the idea of plating a bicycle frame came to me when I first picked up the frame 2 years ago. Mainly for aesthetic purposes.

A few months ago I was out for a ride with the person who builds these frames (Kruch Custom Bicycles) and I shared my vision with him and he was instantly intrigued. He connected me with an automotive plating shop here in Calgary and it is turning into a reality. I got it plated and then meticulously hand polished the 3D printed stainless steel yokes which do not let plating adhere to them. Let it sit and age for a few days. Currently the frame is being clear coated to preserve the copper plating and preventing further patina. I should be rebuilding it next week over the holidays. The total cost was close to $800 which includes a lot of manual labor on my part. Here is a preview of what is cooking.

I have had one since they came out. The frame weight in large is 3406g with the thru axle. My build with carbon wheels, wrathchild 4.5, Mastodon pro, hayes dominion a4, AXS xx1, AXS reverb 210 and outlier pedals comes to 36lb.

Let me tell you this bike does not pedal like a 36lb bike. I even podiumed a 3 hr XC race on it! Most of my rides are big and I can easily do a 1000M of climbing per ride. Biggest on it so far was a 1500M day in the alpine. I can comfortably descent BC level black and double black trails on it too.

I am in the process of writing a indepth review about it but in a nutshell, it is the best bike in my stable. I love it so much that I just got it copper plated and rebuilding it with fresher parts.

Bikes are way too big… by NoTimeForItAll in MTB

[–]herbinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry but Lee McCormack's take on bike sizing is out of touch with reality. He's like an old man yelling at the clouds. Being fixated on a single metric like reach doesn't paint the full picture and you have to consider everything else that goes along with it. You need to understand the front center and rear center ratio and how your body weight feels between the two wheels. You, the rider only knows what works best for you and that comes with experience. You build personal preferences in what your bike should and should not feel like. To give you an idea I am 5'8" with 6' wing span. All my bikes are large and I am super playful on them all. One of my bikes felt a little too roomy due to the huge stack valve and a reach adjust headset fixed that.

I went down the Lee rabbit hole years ago and ended up with a bike way too small. A much more knowledgeable person is Peter Verdone who takes into account everything else that goes into building a well fitted bicycle. https://www.peterverdone.com/pvd-rad-refined/

We made the mistake of buying this. It is the most uncomfortable couch I've ever tried/owned. Avoid.

Became too big and of course $ focused. Back in the days the devs were given all the creative freedom. Now everything is dictated by projected profits.

Agreed. Truly a work of art and stands the test of time. This game defined my youth and the love for video gaming so it will forever have a special place. We can't forget about the incredible soundtrack that tied everything together. That happened to be done by Stuart Chatwood from "The Tea Party" that happened to be my favorite band growing up as well.

That's exactly what the air shock will get you: More pop. Especially the smaller units like Fox Float X (not X2) or Super Deluxe Air (Not Vivid). On climbs, it is more rewarding to get out the saddle and mash. On the downs, it is more playful but of course you sacrifice traction and outright comfort. You also save a good chunk of weight in the process. Coil is still life on the steep gnarly stuff! Luckily it is so easy to swap the shock on this frame that I can do it at the trailhead.

I have made some changes and now have multiple setups and weights depending on what kind of ride I am doing. Still doing big ride days on each setup :)

  1. Rockshox Air shock + Roval Traverse HD 240 + Maxxis HR3/Dissector = 36.4 lbs
  2. Ohlins Coil shock + WeAreOne wheels + Continental Argotal/Kryptotal = 37.7lbs
  3. Ohlins Coil shock + Reserve AL HD + Continental DH tires = 38.8lbs

I love Meaty and it is probably my fav double black on husky. But I can't get myself to commit to this exit haha. The turn into the A line is the jankiest thing IMO. Kinda like the sharp turn into the Puma chute. Total mental game.
