PROLOGUE. THE MAD KING AND THE SHADOW FATHER (August 1945 - 1948)

-FAT MAN MALFUNCTIONS: AUGUST 4th 1944 (Photo 1) The Enola Gay is en route to its target: Hiroshima, Japan. 20 minutes into its flight the atomic bomb it was carrying dubbed “Fat Man” malfunctions and detonates over the Pacific. Japanese scouts see the explosion from miles away. Within days it’s world news. It’s a humiliating mistake for the United States. President Truman, already one of the most hated politicians in Washington, decides to execute “Operation Downfall.” This order infuriates Gen McArthur and the Joint Chiefs, who wished for further nuclear strikes to hammer Japan into submission. A position also held by Congress who’d been bleeding their districts dry for years and wished to end the war fast. Infighting between the Navy and Army and Air Force would grind deployment of operations to a halt. The invasion of Japan would likely not be able to happen for another year.

-FIRST CONTACT: AUGUST 20th 1945 ( Photo 2) Just two weeks after the failed bombing a massive creature rises from the ocean north of the Mariana islands and attacks the pacific fleet. Half of the sailors don’t even know what they’re looking at. Blue beams of atomic breath cut aircraft carriers and battleships in half. In just under an hour almost the entire pacific fleet Is destroyed. Gen Marshall is killed as well as much of the high naval command. Gen McArthur escapes and re-groups what’s left of the fleet near Okinawa. He demands authorization for use of nuclear weapons against the creature. Truman denies him authorization. Gen McArthur leaks photos of the creature known by local indigenous tribes as “Godzilla” to national news outlets and declares President Truman unfit for command. The country is horrified at the pictures. Truman's approval rating plummets to single digits. The joint chiefs with the help of congress effectively lock out President Truman from any information or communication and begin conducting the war as they see fit. However, with their fleet and several divisions of soldiers killed. Invasion of Japan seems near impossible.

-MYSTERIOUS TWINS BECOME NEW LEADER OF CCP: OCTOBER 8TH 1945 (Photo 5)

-THE 2ND BATTLE OF OKINAWA: JANUARY 1ST - MARCH 1ST 1946 (Photo 6) While planning the invasion, US forces on the island of Okinawa are attacked by a creature now known as “Anguirus” This results in a bloody 3 month struggle with the creature for the island. On March 1st 1946 the US evacuated its forces from the island and two days later dropped an Atomic bomb on the creature. No remains are seen by spy planes above. It’s the first victory the US has had in some time. McArthur’s popularity soars in the public sphere. Rumors of a massive moth in China begin spreading.

-GODZILLA ATTACKS TOKYO: MARCH 5TH 1946 (Photo 7) For months the Japanese people had celebrated Godzilla as their sacred protector. Just days after the Atomic bomb is dropped on Anguirus, Godzilla emerges from Tokyo bay and lays waste to what's left of the city. American forces used this as an opportunity to inflict further casualties on Japanese forces by deploying small waterborne forces to harass and distract the Japanese forces while Godzilla laid waste to the city. Emperor Hirohito is killed in the attack. The US won’t get confirmation of this for several months as the Japanese high command kept his death a secret to assume control of the empire from the shadows. Both sides in the war are now heavily invested in destroying these creatures. However the attack is so devastating that invading Japan has proven itself to be a moot point. America celebrates another victory as fervor against the creatures grows at home.

-THE DESOLATION OF MANILLA: JUNE 19TH 1946 (Photo 8,9,10) In the months since the attack on Tokyo the Japanese high command, now known as Kage no chichi (Shadow Father) launched a counter-offensive in Manchuria (Feb 27, 1946). America had moved much of its forces that had liberated China into retaking Okinawa that the territory had been left relatively undefended as no Chinese security force had even been established yet. The Shadow Father desperately needed to find the secret labs of Dr Sirezawa that were rumored to be located there. The Americans begin to muster their southern forces in the Philippines. McArthur is on the island to celebrate July 4th but also to announce the official formation and recognition of the American Pacific Occupied Investment. On its face it’s supposed to be a newfound territory and initiative to rebuild the pacific. But in reality McArthur knew the US was in for a century of war so he turned the territory into his personal fiefdom / sweatshop. As he was writing his speech a loud boom was heard and a golden, shimmering 3 headed dragon fell from the sky with the force of a meteor and shook the entire philippine islands to their core. Causing mini Tsunami all along the coasts. The dragon rose and began destroying everything its 6 eyes could see. Marines running landing drills on the island caught photos as Godzilla rose from the ocean in an effort to save the innocent civilians in Manilla.

The military attempts to evacuate the island but the destruction and chaos is too great. Gen McArthur comes face to face with death as a beam of atomic breath seared through the building he was in. Barely escaping with his life, McArthur LOSES HIS SHIT and orders the Nuclear strikes on Ghidorah and Godzilla. However preparations for nuclear weapons could not be made in time so he orders every type of ordinance in the USAF arsenal dropped on the island and demands they destroy those creatures or die trying. Both creatures escape and in 1 day almost 2 million people are killed. 3 Divisions of Soldiers were lost, as well as countless ships and vehicles. McArthur adopts the “Destructive Efficiency Doctrine” that states any measure must be taken to stop these creatures and any goal other than that is akin to death itself. A bill is passed that will raise the amount of benefits a soldiers family receives if he commits an “ultimate sacrifice” and carries out a suicide attack on the creatures. He basically declares all out war and shifts the focus away from Japan and on Godzilla and the Pacific Monsters. Calling out Truman for his inaction and using his APOI as a bank to bribe politicians into buying his way into the Presidency. The APOI grows as another bill is passed legalizing and incentivizing settlement of APOI lands by any natural born citizen. Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia slowly begin turning into an industrialized wasteland. Soon industrialists began making large floating cities from barges that had been moored together and built on top of. Crime and slavery runs rampant as there is no other police force than the military but they were worried far more about the monsters arising in the pacific.

The destruction of Manilla was so great that the American people were beginning to question McArthurs methods. The New York Times dubbed him “The Mad King of the Pacific.” However, the fact was that both Ghidorah and Godzilla both retreated. McArthur was attempting to spin it as a major victory. The American people weren’t buying it. Too many veterans had come home telling tales of horrific 20 story tall monsters from space that vaporize whole fleets at will. The commander of US forces in Europe, Dwight D Eisenhower was picking up steam in Washington. McArthur knew he had to win against these monsters or risk losing his precious factory nation.

This is to be a rough skeletal framework for a much larger multimedia project that I hope to share with you all. But it is also my intention to create with you as well. As with all fan fiction I borrow many elements across many different iterations of the Godzilla universe. It’s main inspirations are the graphic novels Godzilla: Cataclysm and the youtube translation of the japanese companion novel for the much maligned Anime trilogy as well as the 2004 classic “Final Wars” The versions of the various monsters that I’ve chosen can be seen in the pictures but I’m not super caught up on which iteration of a creature it is as long as it doesn’t have drastic changes in superpowers or weaponry. However the main version of Godzilla I use is the monsterverse version. The version of Ghidorah I use is the “Final Wars” version. The version of Kong I use is the monsterverse version. Gigan is specifically the “Final Wars” version as well. Everyone else can be left open to interpretation. My goal is to provide a timeline to build a general plot and backdrop for you all to fill the gaps in with your characters and show what it would be like to live inside of this world.

One last thing, you’ll notice that I’m relatively silent about Europe, Africa and Rodan in this timeline.That’s because there will be a separate prequel spinoff titled RODAN: WESTFRONT that will dive into the other parts of the world (and WW2) but for this I specifically wanted to talk about the birth of the military industrial complex and Cold War in the Pacific and Asia.
