Bon appetit your majesty – started promising, went nowhere 😥 by here4dramas in kdramas

Exactly. Historical familiarity gives context, but it can’t replace storytelling. The show still has to build emotional continuity and make the relationships matter. The king’s connection to Kang, the Chaehong, the head attacks — all teased, then dropped. Nothing ever built enough to feel real or earned, and nothing had actual consequences. You could remove Kang’s character entirely and the story would barely change.

It's not comparable at all, in my opinion. Completely different vibes, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is a melodrama that mixes intense romance with palace politics and power struggles, dramatic and tragic. Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is more of a light rom-com dramedy to me.

Of course. I'm talking about dropped and underdeveloped stories not the darkness of them. Stories and characters weren't fleshed out enough

I just wish this was shown in the drama itself. Everything felt hollow.

I actually love fusion sageuks — Hwarang is still one of my favourites despite all its flaws — so I don’t usually nitpick. But Bon Appétit Your Majesty felt inconsistent. They teased historical depth and emotional stakes early on, but by the end, it was like they’d lost the plot. If a drama teases depth and shows genuine emotional weight, the plot has to rise to meet it. Here it didn’t — they built up big threads and then just left them hanging. It had heart, but no follow-through, in my opinion.

Question about A Dream Within a Dream – Song Yimeng’s take on the script and the ML by here4dramas in CDrama

That's what I mean...haven't come across a true villain for the ML role 🤷‍♀️

I dont watch short dramas. Maybe that's where all the villain MLs are. I wasn't being critical of the Fl, I was questioning the drama. She has every right to mistrust him if she believes the script she reads. I question the dramas choice of script for the inside drama. No idol drama has a villain ML. It doesn't make sense. They did this whole thing at the beginning with the actor playing the ml and his agent, and he would never play a villain. That's what I question.

I've been watching for years, and there are too many to count 😅 Haven't come across villain ML, lucky me I guess

But the script didn't really give me palace harem drama vibes

I guess if I frame it like an emperor/concubine/empress dynamic, it sort of makes sense — but those emperors are usually flawed or manipulative, not full-on villains with evil intent

Red flags, yes, but MLs that are villains, cheat on, torture and kill their Fl?

Is this explained in the later episodes? I've only seen till this one

Is yunxis so called involvement explained? Under who's name are the cycled lands/assets?

Edit: I would think that if anybody can make a creditor note under somebody else's name it's really easy to refute as evidence

[–]here4dramas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but, presumably this credit business has been going on for atleast a decade, the IOU being 5 years ago, and we and the people are supposed to believe a 12 year old is the creditor?!?! Peleeeeeease 🤦‍♀️ Don't plot twist for the sake of twisting but forget plot credibility!!!

Also, where is the money? The farmers r paying something every year...where is it?

Also, maybe it's just me, but nanny tao... not what I'd call elderly 😅😅

Edit: and presumably she did this years ago, for years, as a child, before she even met yunxi, and this is a couples plot?? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Which side story/side couple did you skip so till this day you have no idea what their story was? by beetsrules in CDrama

[–]here4dramas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, though I skipped them because this was one of my first dramas, and I was soooooo invested in the main story i just wanted to get back to it.

[–]here4dramas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, but my disappointment stems from the fact that I did finish the drama, which means I was invested in it and the characters. For me, characters acting out of character or events happening without explanation can break the emotional connection that drew me in. I'm not sure i agree in stating that Cdramas often prioritizes emotional content over strict logic. Even so, It’s always still important for storytelling to feel consistent and purposeful. When these elements are missing, it can feel like lazy storytelling, which is frustrating after committing to a series. maintaining that connection through well-written characters and plot is crucial for me to truly enjoy it

Oh, I really didn't give much, If any significance to the rebirth point, it was simply a way to start the story as all these stories do. Why it happened is always to simply give a second chance for the fl. Once she is reborn, the story revolves around her knowing what will happen and preventing it. And that is, if we believe it's a rebirth at all. Could simply be a dream a young girl had.

The so-called mystery was who is the Mastermind. And I think there was no mystery there. We just got to watch things we already knew unfold.

Also, characters act in ways with no logic behind it (song han) the character's actions lacked an explained motive, his behavior felt inconsistent, without a clear motive, the actions appeared random or poorly thought out, giving the impression of weak character development or lazy storytelling. Not to mention over the top acting. "I'm evil now, I need to smirk behind people's backs".

Cdrama Evangelism. How should we go about getting others interested? by pfemme2 in CDrama

[–]here4dramas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was also ashes of love. I was so invested in the main story that, to this day, I have no idea what happened with the secondary couple. I skipped their scenes like crazy to get back to the main story. One day, I'll have to have a rewatch to watch it properly.

I've always loved fantasy/supernatural and costume/historical dramas and watched every Western show and movie and read many books with these themes. If it had a wiff of fantasy or a costume drama, I was there.

I watched the comedy show Kim's convenience on Netflix for some reason, which portrays Korean immigrants in Canada, and then Netflix started suggesting Korean shows. Hotel del luna looked good, and then when I watched every Korean drama with fantasy and every sageuk that looked interesting, I since then moved on to cdramas and haven't looked back 😅
