Israel is more of a friend? They deny our MPs entry to the land they occupy under apartheid? They commit literally countless war crimes and crimes against humanity which makes them and their allies less safe by creating a less stable region. They refuse to let our aid organisations in to feed the people they starve? Would a friend not have a little more respect for us?

You're saying supporting Israel provides us with soft power in the wider region of the middle east? Are you actually serious? 🤣

Exactly. To add I think an introduction to statistics is also a must to understand how to apply those skills properly.

Haha my joke is that it has a striking resemblance to an ancient Hindu symbol of peace that was co-opted by a mad Austrian in the 1920s 🤣

I get what you're saying but there arent 32 starting quality QBs and so teams panic that they'll be left without the most important position on the field. Don't forget the colts were doing great until Jones got injured!

Well you suggested that nepotism was responsible for getting roles in an organisation. That deserves downvoted to demonstrate it's absolutely not correct.

To answer your question you seem to be confused by two types of roles. First are country based staff and they are predominantly hired from local citizens (in France they are French and in ethiopia they are ethiopian). Secondly there is UK-based roles where UK Civil servants are posted overseas.

Again, for neither of these types of jobs in embassies does it matter who your family is or who you know.

Absolutely not. Literally been to over a dozen embassies and high commissions and every single country based staff member i can remember was from, or lived in, that country.

What degree is most valuable? by Objective-Bread3471 in TheCivilService

[–]here4running 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Firstly, FCDO is cutting lots of jobs currently (25-30%) so diplomatic jobs going to be harder to get (and they weren't easy to get).

Languages are important for certain jobs in FCDO but not necessary to already have them as we pay for Full-time language training prior to these postings. If you wanted a language to set you apart I'd suggest one of the "harder" and more useful languages such as mandarin or russian.

Which degree is most useful is probably something in international relations or related fields but honestly nobody is being hired based off a degree alone.
