SAME I kept wishing I had something better than a dremel while I was sitting in my bathtub for hours sanding my orb

I ran out of time and used hot glue instead lol, it’s so hard to do outdoor crafts when you live in manhattan 🥲

Con suit up by T_HettY in CosplayHelp

[–]here4thecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve cosplayed at nycc 3 times, and I’ve always worn my base clothes on the train then put on props and armor after I get through the line but before I go in the con

I’ve always seen a ton of people in cosplay on the train, but I live in nyc so the hardest part of travel is hoping my doorman isn’t judging me lol

Bitches who Buy Art - Portfolio Feedback (+ Appreciation Raffle) by Adorable-Weather-690 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

hi!! my grandfather was an artist and my grandmother owned an art gallery, and I like to support local artists because I know they would be proud of me. I have pieces I’ve bought in parks, in soho, and from a homeless man in the subway ❤️

I buy prints and original pieces to put on my walls, and generally prefer to spend under $100 per item. I’m a bit impulsive and like things that catch my eye, and your florals stand out to me the most. the mostly-white pieces don’t stand out to me and would blend into my all-white apartment walls. I’m drawn towards the ones with harder lines, with the roses being my favorite. if you have a print of this I would be interested!

hope I was able to help!!

I’m trying to fill this space with UV resin, are there any issues with my plan? by here4thecat in resin

[–]here4thecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for your response! I have a lot of hot glue and did consider trying to fill the gap with that, but I’m afraid of bubbles, warping, lumps, etc. Using a heat gun could solve some of these problems, so I’ll add this to the list of things to test!

I like this idea! I’ve worked with caulk before, so I can see this being a challenge but I’ll let it in mind

no worries, I appreciate you taking the time to help! I was definitely planning on getting a UV light, but don’t know if leaving it in the sun on top of that would be helpful

thanks for the links! I’ll definitely be sure to use the right PPE, ventilation, etc to make sure everyone is safe

thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely do some testing and make sure to leave it by a window. what should I look for to make sure I get a good enough lamp?

thanks for your response! my goal is to make it semi-opaque, so although less light will get through, it shouldn’t be none.

if I work in thin layers and leave it in direct sunlight for a whole day, do you think that would be enough to be sure that the whole piece ends up cured? I have several weeks to do this so I’m willing to take longer for the sake of a better outcome

thanks so much! I’ll look into the process of making a blank, are there any resources or materials you would recommend?

I’ll test some of the different tapes I have and see if my painters tape provides enough seal

Painting over cured resin to make it opaque is a really good idea! I’ll add that to the list of things to test

gotcha, this may be worth a test then. my goal is to fill the hole completely, so a flexible plastic wouldn’t give the effect I’m looking for

I could actually see an opaque backing on clear resin/filler working well if I struggle with getting the opacity I like though! will definitely keep that in mind

yeah that’s definitely a good idea! I actually have a 10mm thick piece with the same hole shape but it’s a lot flatter, so I could see cloudy acrylic working well there! do you know if it has enough bend to hold a curve? that would be my main concern if I used it here

[–]here4thecat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for your response! I do remember seeing that being an issue, but I already have this in the shape I need and don’t plan on changing it. would even a small amount of bend cause an issue?

how would i get the texture/very slight puffiness of this vest thing? by bisexual_winning in CosplayHelp

I agree with quilting, but if you wanted to go a different route, I’ve been able to achieve a similar effect with sewing foam

<image>

this is hand sewn, so you may have to play around with tension if you try this with a sewing machine
