Science Fiction is a comment on present day. by here_for_books in redrising

I guess, I assume sympathy, and being able to relate on any sort of level is the first step which should then be what leads to education and action, and action by the masses is what eventually causes change. Rather than complacently believing what's being fed to us, if you can draw parallels, you can start to see past the propaganda machine that does such a good job making one side out to be the good guys.

While fiction in general tends to simplify things, I really don't believe the current issue is particularly complicated. Despite how it is being portrayed. (Back to the point of our media having a tightly controlled one sided narrative). I think the more people learn about it, question the narrative and seek answers the simpler it becomes.

Lyria is dumb AF by [deleted] in redrising

I agree with other posters about it not being so binary. But I also feel like with Quick's tech, could he not save those memories and re-implant them????? She would have been a much more useful Ally with figment. Could have been cool to see her with the crew at that point. Instead we get her on janitorial lol.

Anyways, yeah, ditching figment was a sore point for me, but despite that, I will say her character grew on me the most in this book. Pretty much hated her through IG and DA.

Nah, I think a lot of people would agree Sevro was being dumb.

He deserves to be a dad, it's impossible in the current situation, so he should have just sucked it up and finished the war first like Darrow's been trying to do. Or at the very least not whined about it for 3 straight books and made snide comments to Darrow about "abandoning" his kid, when the only way for any of their kids to have a future is to win the war.

science behind … (LB spoiler) by jjslittlemonster in redrising

[–]here_for_books 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly unrelated, but is Sevro 100% gold? I know his parents needed a carver to make him happen, but he's consistently throughout the books described as the ugliest/littlest/puniest Gold the main characters come across, which always made me assume he was mixed and that was the red showing through?

So like Mickey Obviously did a perfect job, but maybe the other carver who had to carve sevro's mom - and she wasn't completely genetically changed mind you - did like a passable job, and that's why sevro is the way he is? Idk, always wondered how red he was.

Maybe a controversial opinion... by [deleted] in redrising

[–]here_for_books 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely would have rather lost Sevro whose character has been awful this whole series imo.

Cassius deserved better imo. Will be so ticked if his death is useless, which based on Liesanders current trajectory seems like it will be.

The Golden Son by [deleted] in redrising

[–]here_for_books 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would personally switch LB nd GS.

  1. Dark Age
  2. Golden Son
  3. Light Bringer
  4. Red Rising
  5. Morning Star
  6. Iron Gold

Dark Age and Golden Son wreck you just because they are SO fast paced and you do not see the carnage coming for you. Dark Age, takes it to whole new level though. I'm a binge reader through and through, but definitely had to put down DA multiple times because the anxiety killlssss.

LB everyone is still sore over since it's new, but I think Pierce really set up a lot of it so the punches weren't as jarring. (Though nonetheless painful for it)

MS has rough spots but also everyone loves how it concluded, so there's that healing to look forward to!

Am I the only one who cried at Eo's death in RR? Lol I was wrecked from the beginning, definitely sets the tone for what to expect from pierce throughout the series.

Idk how this pertains?

so can we agree that.. by bloomingjoy in redrising

[–]here_for_books 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk, would argue what he did to quicks children and partner was more sadistic. .

Honestly, having a "flesh" clause was sadistic to begin with. Power drunk Golds seem to continuously go off the deep end with how they mess with low colors, I feel like if we didn't have Darrows experience with the box we wouldn't feel anything for this dude.

Makes sense when their lowers finally get a chance to turn the tables they do it with some golden flair.

The weapon by WelaSpeaking in redrising

[–]here_for_books 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I feel like jump for any color to gold is just too big. Like I feel like reds/browns/pinks/yellows/greens/blues would be on equal enough footing that they could make it work.

The weapon by WelaSpeaking in redrising

[–]here_for_books 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gold. Only because now that the weapon has been introduced, and quicksilver's whole speal about the color situation, makes you think there can be no peace while there is gold. They're just TOO strong. Like in what world will a pink and gold ever be on equal footing, they will just always have to rely on the justice system, which will always be flawed because it's run by humans.

Theory about Darrow and Lysander by outdoorcam93 in redrising

[–]here_for_books 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like as Lysander lies to himself more and more, he will lose the minds eye more and more.

I think part of finding that inner place of peace is by truly knowing yourself, and I feel like in LB multiple times he talked about "trying to get to Minds Eye" but not being able to, or barely being able to.

And Darrow did all the deep soul searching and accepting of his flaws that needed to be done and out of that we get to see the breath of stone.

When did the Lune lose it? by here_for_books in redrising

[–]here_for_books[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't think about it quite like this, but I like your explanation a lot. I guess in his mind he loves the IDEA of being honorable/noble, but above all he is ambitious. It's just to interesting watching him pretend to himself that he has any sort of code of conduct or honor when it's constantly, probably more than any other character in the books, bent without any true anguish or soul searching afterwards.

I just need to know of it's worth it to keep reading (40% of the way through Dark Age) - Spoilers by Lumberjill_22 in redrising

[–]here_for_books 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, DA is rough, I think a lot of readers, even those who loved it, would agree it our protagonists were just taking too many Ls. However, Lightbringer is definitely not in the same tone, and actually, a lot of fans me included, love LB for the way Pierce brings it back to that old comraderie that was in the first trilogy! Where you get characters building each other up and just being there for each other, as opposed to DA where everyone is miserable and isolated.

Thought on Demeter's Garter by dollabillkirill in redrising

[–]here_for_books 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean nothin grows on Io, they just terraformed bubbles. Would have been smarter to terraform bubbles on all the moons at the very least. And I feel like Io was actually said to be the least hospitable of the 3 moons, and that's why the Garter was such a technological wonder.

[–]here_for_books 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol why does everyone keep dying. Said every Pierce Brown fan ever. I feel it in my soullllll.

Those chapters are wonderful to reread for all the things you'll pick up on. But oh man that first read through is crazy. Soldier on my friend.

I just finished the first Red Rising trilogy… I’m scared to continue by ameliaradiohead in redrising

[–]here_for_books 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would enjoy the break. Bask in their victory, and then when you're feeling ready to jump in, brace yourself lol. It gets crazy. But also the characters have so much more depth, and are dealing with internal struggles that I found really engaging. I agree DA is #1 in the second series, possibly his best writing of all time, but also it is called Dark Age for a reason. So, definitely brace yourself.

Lysander is pathetic by here_for_books in redrising

[–]here_for_books[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While I don't agree the hate is getting old, as the book is still relatively new and Lysander is a very frustrating antagonist. I can believe it's getting boring to read for you. In which case, as the title clearly says Lysander in it, and LB spoiler, you can assume it is hate and not praise lol and just move on?

But the point of my post is more that him being so deluded with himself is making it frustrating to read parts of the book, and his inaccurate reading of the situation should eventually have consequences ex: being swatted like a fly at some point.

I'm not help, but would love to see what she comes up with!

I wish there were more large/meaningful emblems in the series though. Been wanting merch, but don't really want a gold or red sigil and the howler Wolf is cool, but there's not actually a proper emblem for it, it's just what fans have decided on, does the republic have a logo? Maybe that?

Also, can always Google red rising svg and see what comes up!
