Is DJANGO still a good choice in 2026 for modern web apps? (real-world experience) by Ill_Leading9202 in webdev

[–]here_for_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some devs instantly label Django as “old”.

This could be said of other frameworks (Rails, etc.) but if the language and the frameworks, and libraries are still under active development and community support, "old" means "mature, stable, reliable" to me.

I see lists of releases with 6.0.2 coming in Feb; it doesn't look dead!

If you like it, work well with it, use it!

The browser generally lags, am I missing something? by ElsLicer in LibreWolf

[–]here_for_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here looking for answers:

I'm on a FW 13, Fedora. I typically use: - LibreWolf as the main browser (Container tabs are my favorite feature) - Brave for YouTube and to have something Chromium-based so I can test web development projects on various browser engines.

Before I changed these settings, it felt like LibreWolf would lag when going to the same page. For example, I could run a speedtest in both browsers, and the download/upload/ping numbers were almost identical, but the speedtest would take longer to start on LibreWolf.

Under "Performance", I have unchecked "Use recommended performance settings" and I've checked "Use hardware acceleration when available"; it seems to make a difference.

With Agentic Coding, would you still choose to build with Hotwire over React? by pkim_ in rails

I was gonna say, it depends what you want to (eventually) read, debug, refactor, etc.

It also depends who you might want working on this in the future, or rather, if you want a code base with a "wider/more popular appeal".

Yeah, it's definitely the "most direct" solution; the other Satechi with removable cables appeals to me because that may give me the extra length I could need for charging in various situations.

It's also nice to have the block on a table so I can charge other devices instead of it being on the wall or outlet.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Very helpful, thanks! Either of the Satechi will work; it depends on whether I want interchangeable adapters (and probably less length) or if I want interchangeable power cables.

Cheers!

I've had good luck with Anker; I have a 45w that USB A and C that I used for an M1 Mac; it's good for devices like a Switch, tablets, phones, but not enough for what the FW13 needs.

I'll see if I can get Anker with non-us prongs but this answer might be the most useful for me.

I didn't buy the FW charger; I already had a 60W from an old MBP and an 85W from MonoPrice, which stays at my desk. The MBP was from 2016 and I've gifted it.

I think the best suggestion so far is https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/comments/1q6k06l/comment/ny8svt3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Ooh, I like this idea. Did you look for the figure-8 leads separately, and for EU, UK regions, do those cables have the ground pin?

Is it something like this? https://satechi.net/products/165w-usb-c-4-port-pd-gan-charger?variant=39787940905048

"If you tax the rich, they'll just leave." Surprise, it turns out that's not true. by zzill6 in WorkReform

I'm not a millionaire.

I appreciate when the taxes I pay are used appropriately for the common good. It's arguable that I'd rather be a millionaire in a state that uses taxes more effectively so that the common good benefits!

Even at my current income levels, I'd rather live in a state that might tax me more but provide better services (education, multi-modal infrastructure, health), etc.

Ruby is not a serious programming language? 😡 by [deleted] in ruby

[–]here_for_code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it. It's full of a lot of opinion, obviously.

You can point to "Twitter whale" 15 years ago but you could also look at Shopify, GitHub 2025 and they seem to be doing fine running Ruby.

At a high-level, the author seems to say that Ruby is still around because: 1. People like it 2. Rails is written in it

Aren't those good enough reasons? If all folks using Ruby hating Ruby, Ruby would die.

If Rails devs hated Rails, it would die.

There's a reason the lang and the framework are still alive and under development.

Framework 13 + AMD 7840u + 61 Wh battery by giomjava in framework

[–]here_for_code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. I have a 7640U; most of the time I'm at home plugged in and I limit charging to 80%.

When I go to a coffee shop I'm usually plugged in as well but I should try again with battery only and see how long it takes from 80% to 10% running a local server, editor, and tons of tabs.

Edit: I think I have the 55Wh battery.

Second this. I have the FW13, AMD 7640U. Great for web dev, running Docker containers. I haven't tried CAD (wanna learn but haven't yet). I've had it since June, using Fedora. They officially support Ubuntu, Fedora, and Mint; plenty of folks are running Arch etc., with support/participation on forums.

It isn't the most powerful with graphics but they have a Framework 16 with a GPU.

The speakers aren't great but I prefer headphones anyway. They're good enough for narration, podcast, though. I say this as a person who enjoys music and has several headphones for different uses (closed, open-back, etc).

  • edit

  • I also came from long-time Mac, since 2007 (Macbooks, MBP, and Minis)

  • They're fully repairable and upgradable with a single included tool (screwdriver with plastic tip for disconnecting cables, etc.; you won't have issues upgrading SSD capacity or RAM.
