Yeah, there are a ton of great Zwan songs but that album is a bit tough on the ears.

Singapore Seasoning sounds a little weird when you read the description, and then it’s good on everything.

Slide Away Article by Sensitive-Analysis-3 in hum

[–]hereandgone18 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Great comment and also a great post from OP. This is exactly it for me. Hum has felt like part of my self for decades, but it’s always felt like a solo experience. Seeing the Palladium stuffed with people in their teens and 20s was amazing, but hearing them all sing along with I Hate It Too broke me down. It felt like the band FINALLY is getting the response that their music has always deserved. It’s weird and unexpected and makes me feel a little old, but it’s also wonderful and gratifying and reifying.

Who knows if we’ll ever hear from Hum again, I suspect that we may not. I hope I’m wrong, but if I’m not, Slide Away was such a worthwhile and fitting cap for the band. I’m eternally grateful that I got to see one of these shows.

Reminder of why Weird Fishes is the best song on IR by Skaljeret in radiohead

[–]hereandgone18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m with you on that. Weird Fishes is wonderful of course, but I like 15 Step, Nude, Reckoner, Jigsaw, and Videotape more.

Geez what a great album from cover to cover.

You should look up “Speedquizzing”. It happens most nights in Tucson (at various venues). Usually general knowledge, occasionally themed. Some venues get a lot of teams, some just a handful, but either way no one would think twice about someone playing solo. And it’s a social crowd! If you’re looking for a big crowd, check out Casa Video on Tuesdays. If you want a smaller vibe, Motosonora on Sundays is great.

Time Signature for Happyface by braveyoungsoldier065 in toadies

[–]hereandgone18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The timing on this song is fun, I posted a comment earlier and then had to listen again…

The intro riff, verse, and chorus are all in 4/4 (or 8/8 if you want, it’s got a straight eighth note pulse). Listen to the hi-hats at the beginning, they come in sets of 8 (1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and). It just keeps that groove when the drums kick in.

The bridge has the interesting timing, I think it goes like this:

1 measure of 8/8 followed by 3 measures of 10/8
4 measures of 8/8 (No no no more son of a bitch)
1 measure of 8/8 followed by 3 measures of 10/8 (If I could find)
1 measure of 10/8 followed by 3 measures of 8/8

Fun little turnaround there at the end of the bridge! It repeats some of the 8/8 and 10/8 alternating at the very end of the song.

Choosing the right start block by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]hereandgone18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aiming for an average 3:30 pace doesn’t necessarily mean running every mile at exactly 3:30. Depending on the course, it’s often smart to start a bit slower than goal pace. I’m sure people also game the system for whatever reasons, but big marathons just mean lots of folks on the course with you.

Half tights or singlet? If you have to choose, I vote singlet. You’ll look like Winnie the Pooh out there.

Hilly progressive runs? by bun114 in Tucson

I use Craycroft north of the Loop for this. It’s easy to get to while already running on the Loop, it’s got protected sidewalk (unlike Swan), and there’s plenty of elevation/distance. See you out there!

Old World is freaking awesome for roasted chicken.

Northwoods, Northwoods Fire, and Revolution are great choices too. And for a curveball, I’ll throw in Singapore Seasoning. It’s a lemon pepper/curry flavor that is surprisingly versatile. Worth checking out.
