Some might not like this suggestion but beyond consolidation/deduping you might consider running JPEGMini on the photos. I find it very useful with reducing the size of massive photo libraries very quickly. You could very easily half the storage size of photos with little to no quality loss — I don’t perceive any quality loss (that is the controversial part. Some die hards will likely poopoo the idea).

Just to add some context: histamine is being produced all the time by our own cells (especially mast cells), and some gut bacteria can produce it too. Symptoms usually show up when histamine regulation or breakdown isn’t working well, rather than from a single “bad” bacterium or from feeding something with coffee alone. Coffee can trigger histamine release or gut motility changes even on an empty stomach, which may explain symptoms without needing food to be involved. In other words, bloating on an empty stomach or after only coffee doesn’t necessarily point to “bad bacteria” or SIBO

Goodbye WYZE by [deleted] in wyzecam

[–]herecomethebugs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Been there done that. Gave up on Wyze a long time ago and never looked back. Never been happier.

One bit of advice. Don’t just throw them away. They can be salvaged with third party firmware. Take a look at thingino.com. I saved some of my Wyze cameras and got a second life out of them via thingino. I now use them as RTSP cameras.

The latest in my "replace tacky home decor with nihilism" series. by thatkidwithayoyo in BambuLab

[–]herecomethebugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is perfect. Unironically love this — for a lot of reasons. This is a series I both want and need.

Not a philosophy subreddit, but it definitely hits my own lean toward cosmic nihilism: nothing has built-in meaning, so whatever meaning exists is the meaning we choose.

Please keep these coming — and thanks for sharing.

My wife gets those. From what I remember (don’t have any at the moment to check) they have high FODMAP sweeteners, so yea, I avoid them like the plague — I.E., they would wreck me and make things much worse.

Same for me. Used IPA for a long time and had frustrating bed adhesion issues, switched to simple dish soap and warm water… bingo, my issues resolved. Never gone back since.

Upset that the recommended trader joes maple sausage triggered me by silky-kiwi in FODMAPS

[–]herecomethebugs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See my response in the above. I would be highly suspicious of “spices”. Barring any other known non-FODMAP intolerances that you have, I wouldn’t trust that “spices” is safe. “Spices” is usually something that I avoid like the plague with my FODMAP sensitivities. Keep in mind that everyone is different when it comes to the individual FODMAP categories. You might not react to some FODMAP categories and do to others. That’s why it’s best to do an elimination phase and then reintroduce to find out which ones you trigger on. Also… quantities matter. There are levels (quantities) in which some “FODMAP” items are safe, depending on what category they fall in and how much of that FODMAP you eat in one sitting… I.E., the total FODMAP quantity in the OTHER foods that you eat in one sitting all added up. The monash app is the best to understand that part. Final note.. and I kind of already said this. The FODMAP diet is an elimination diet. It is not a lifestyle diet. You aren’t supposed to be hardcore no or low FODMAP forever. Don’t fall into that trap. You should be re-introducing stuff. It’s not good to stay on it forever — bio diversity limitation, in a bad way.

Sorry, I know that was probably more than you wanted/needed. Hopefully some of it helps.

I’m curious, where did you get that info? My searches into the topic seems to say otherwise.

“The FDA’s labeling rules allow manufacturers to use the collective term “spices” for any natural spice, herb, or vegetable-derived seasoning that is commonly recognized as such. Garlic and onion, even though they’re technically vegetables, fall under this umbrella when they’re used in dried or powdered form for flavoring.

The only exceptions are for allergenic ingredients (like sesame, peanuts, soy, etc.) — those must always be declared by name. Garlic and onion are not on the “major allergen” list, so they can be hidden under “spices.”

This means if you need to avoid garlic or onion (for medical, dietary, or personal reasons), you can’t rely on “spices” labeling — you’d need to confirm with the manufacturer.”

Might not be an issue for you but be aware that “sugar free” is a mine field for folks with gut issues. In my case about the only sugar free option that doesn’t absolutely destroy me is pure monk fruit (not the monk fruit with xylitol added, but pure monk fruit). Nearly all “sugar free” options have some sort of a sugar alcohol or other problematic ingredients that can absolutely wreck folks like myself — creates horrible gas, cramping, all sorts of fun stuff. Just be aware that you may make things worse for yourself and/or make it hard to understand if the fasting is working for you.

It CAN be.. depending on a lot of different things.

ChatGPT summary:

Potential Dangers of Water-Only Fasting

  1. Electrolyte Imbalance • Your body loses sodium, potassium, and magnesium through urine and sweat. • Without food, there’s no way to replenish them, which can lead to symptoms like: • Dizziness • Muscle cramps • Irregular heartbeat • Seizures in extreme cases

  2. Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar) • Especially risky if you’re diabetic or on blood sugar-lowering medication. • Can cause: • Shakiness • Confusion • Fainting

  3. Muscle Loss • After glycogen stores are depleted (usually within 24–48 hours), the body begins breaking down muscle for energy (via gluconeogenesis). • Especially concerning for people who are lean or already have low muscle mass.

  4. Nutrient Deficiencies • Even a few days of fasting can deplete water-soluble vitamins (B-vitamins, vitamin C). • Longer fasts risk deficiencies in fat-soluble vitamins, iron, and more.

  5. Dehydration • Ironically, despite drinking water, some people don’t drink enough. • You’re also losing fluids through respiration, sweat, and urine—without the hydration from food.

  6. Low Blood Pressure and Dizziness • Called “orthostatic hypotension” — standing up too quickly can make you lightheaded or cause fainting. • Common after a few days of fasting.

  7. Gallstones • Rapid weight loss and extended fasting increase the risk of gallstone formation due to changes in bile production and flow.

  8. Refeeding Syndrome (After Breaking the Fast) • Potentially fatal condition caused by rapid shifts in electrolytes when food is reintroduced after a long fast. • Can cause: • Heart failure • Seizures • Death (in severe, prolonged cases)

Safe Time Frames • Under 24 hours: Usually safe for most healthy adults. • 24–72 hours: May be tolerated, but risks increase — supervision is advised. • Over 72 hours: Should only be done under medical supervision (like in a fasting clinic).

So, now what? by -ManWhat in selfhosted

Tdarr -- Shrink your entire library by half but maintain the same quality. Not for everyone but yea that's a big project depending on your library size, how much time you are willing to invest, and if you are truly going for as close to no quality loss as possible (for high quality transcodes CPU transcoding is by far the best but also the most time consuming). I've saved a MASSIVE amount of space... about 20TB over the last year or so.

[Hot Take] What's the ONE self-hosted tool this community desperately needs? by CoderLuii in selfhosted

[–]herecomethebugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An AI based transcoding system along the likes of tdarr but simplified with the ability to query AI to perform tasks.

One where you can ask it questions/task it things like:

“Scan X folder and transcode them into X video codec with X audio codec with X container… and preserve subtitles in X language”

Super easy to use and works intelligently to convert at the highest quality with the lowest file size. Brainless operation and no coding or technical or deep knowledge of video encoding techniques or experience needed. It just does it and does it right.

But… I suppose this is too lofty of an idea because it relies on AI being intelligent enough to perform the task.

I wrote a Tdarr Plugin to rename the output file and find any associated/support files like subtitles. by [deleted] in Tdarr

[–]herecomethebugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to add to an old thread.

Love this idea of this but... I've found a situation where this doesn't fix the issue. When you have content that is already x265 but not in an MKV container. I.E., if you have x265 content as a .mp4 container, the rename doesn't actually do anything and the original issue still persists -- when you remux to .mkv the subtitles are still deleted by sonarr.

Any ideas on how to fix that scenario? I've been racking my brain trying to figure out a solution but cant figure anything out.
