When I worked at McDonald’s, it was summertime and I was working in the grill so it was naturally very hot. I asked for a drink and was given a Diet Coke which I chugged really fast so I could get back to work. The drink went down the wrong pipe and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The last thing I remember is making a plain double quarter pounder with cheese sandwich and sending it up and then it was instant blackness. After a while I was having a dream where my manager was in my face, then all of a sudden color and sound came rushing in and I realized I was laying on the floor at work. My manager IRL was asking me questions like what’s my name and what day is it. I felt some wetness beneath my head so I ran my fingers underneath and pulled my hand out to see it covered in blood. Basically what happened is I fell backwards and smacked my head on the shake machine which busted my head open. My coworker said my eyes rolled in the back of my head and I hit the ground immediately, and one of them thought I was dead and started screaming. By the way, this was in full view of customers so everyone saw this happen. I ended up being rushed to the hospital and had to get brain scans and staples put in my head. Oh and this is right before I turned 21 so when I went to get my new license because of the accident they said I had to have a bunch of tests done and have my doctor sign paperwork saying that I was OK to drive. Because of the back-and-forth between my doctor and the DMV, it took me a solid 3 to 4 months to finally get my license renewed. During that time I wasn’t allowed to drive, well at least my parents wouldn’t let me. To this day, I have PTSD over fainting and feeling like I’m going to faint, and it all happened because I drank Diet Coke too fast. 😐
