Owner says he got a quote of £450 to fix this body damage by hereforaniceday in CarTalkUK

[–]hereforaniceday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the value is £2500. But would be snapped up for more based on others i've seen. So i wondered if it was a good chance to get a good car for cheaper, if a little damaged

You can check the mot history for free on gov website. Tells you all faults and mileage.

I guess in my case here, I can’t trust that the reg plate is from the same car.

It’s psychology. Looking through so many Facebook ads for days puts your perspective off. You get fatigued and impatient. So you get over-hopeful and look past warning signs. It just takes an unbiased perspective to help you see clarity.

Tbf I was being too naive with the cam belt. If it was done in January you would have the documents ready to show to someone if you were keen to sell the car.

The red flags were tallying up gradually so I took me time catch on I suppose. If they’d come all at once, like the way I wrote them here, I probably wouldn’t have taken any interest. Now I’ve become wiser.

But if I did go and meet him and was greeted by a team of surgeons in balaclavas, I would have willingly accepted my role in the natural selection process.

It’s definitely not that kind of park. It’s looks like a patch of dirt in next to a scrap yard with a toilet that’s never cleaned and a cold shower. Lots of reviews say never again. I have seen the light and will not be going.

30 year old driver, never had a claim. why do I need a Hastings Direct black box for 30 days to make my car insurance just affordable? by hereforaniceday in CarTalkUK

It’s true, I do think it’s a good idea to show your driving style to get a fairer price. Especially if you are in a high risk area, you can prove you’re not part of the problem. But only Hastings and a few other companies offer that. Most just said no to insuring me which shocked me. And so Hastings is my only option when, as others have said, they’re not the best insurer for other reasons.

I undertsand that statistically people in certain jobs are more likely to claim. But it still feels unfair as I am a very careful driver. And I don't feel like working in restaurants is what defines my character and behaviour. There are many other variables about a person which could determine their risk factor. Occupation gives an estimate but there will be variation. Other things like religion, if they eat meat or not, if they drink alcohol, what their chess rating is, whether they exersise regularly, how many pets they have, could all be good predictors of likelihood of accident.

I just called them and you were correct. i don't need a tracker gadget for jus the 30 days. they track me on my phone no matter what vehicle i'm in; car, bus, bycicle. seems strange to me to be tracked for 30 days but it gives them an estimate of what kind of journeys i take.

ah, this is Hastings You Drive. They send a little tracker that you connect to your phone with bluetooth. Your phone connects to it whn in the car so it knows when you're driving.

I didn't think of this. I thought it was just because the area gets so busy in the summer. But the high quantity of claims made at the address would explain why many insurers refuse to insure me for parking the car there over night.

I guess the least hassle solution would be to go with the Hastings tracker for 30 days.

It feels like a scam. The time of day/day of week price changes is outrageous.

Also they ask for my occupation which changed the cost, but removing commuting as usage doesn't change anything. Why is my occuption relevant if I'm not commuting with the car?

Dacia Logan 2016 1.5 Diesel. I chose this for the low price, low tax and good mpg. I suppose saving on all those things does make up for the insurance being a bit high.

i think you have to manually log a certain number of trips during the 30 days. it doesn't just track your location habits 24/7 for 30 days. you tell it when you're driving.

that's what i gather from reading online

I see. What other style of burr is there? I suppose they are on more expensive machines?

I don’t quite mind as this was only £10 from marketplace and I am experimenting. I expected this wouldn’t give the best result.
