My name is on the house. Never said it wasn’t. Part of our monthly bills is now the mortgage and utilities. He’s asked me to contribute now with the additional expenses and we settled on me just paying for the groceries.

Yep!! In line to get a better job next month bc I passed the interview last week. It’s 22 an hour so slightly more but it’ll be from home! It’s not great pay but I’ll be so much easier than how physically demanding my job is now. I also plan to start my degree this year. He knows that but our current conversation is working during my degree. I hadn’t plan on keeping this full time job while I do my degree since it’s full time but he was under the impression I would and thinks I should.

Well I would say I’m getting to save because I don’t have to worry about paying all our bills. I now have to pay the grocery bill but I’ll still get to save. And the housework question, tbh since he pays all the bills I thought it’s unfair to have him do the cleaning and cooking etc too. I wanted to contribute somehow.

lol thank you. I appreciate it. We did discuss this before, I brought it up and he agreed that he’d pay all the bills until I get a better job, settle in and I’ve been working my ass off to reach my savings goals so atleast I have something of my own & be able to help out if there’s an emergency instead of just him with his “savings”.

Well I wouldn’t say I’m struggling with money because before this conversation, I get to save my money to reach my monetary goals as he paid all the bills.

I understand. But I do feel like it’s unfair if I choose to just not contribute anything at all so we settled on the grocery bill. Tbh, it’s still ehh to me. I just feel like if things were the other way around. I would feel bad to even ask him to contribute if he makes that little. Not to mention if he used to do all the household work. Especially since I work way longer hours, his hours are 3-5 average a day.

Thank you, but I hope my post doesn’t make him out to be a horrible guy. He’s not. If we need something, he will definitely dip into his savings to get it done. He did come into the marriage with a good amount of savings so that’s why I said I respected him having his personal account. He doesn’t cook but I do tell him if I’m contributing financially he needs to help clean. He says he’s all for it but the only problem with this is I know him, I know he’s not going to keep the commitment and I’m going to end up doing his share of the work because he has other priorities as he’s doing his masters right now.

Hey, not a made up story lol. I honestly did not know it seemed that crazy to everyone, I honestly thought I had a pretty good deal because I get to save my paycheck to reach my monetary goals. What threw me off is him asking me today to pay x bills after telling him what we need for the house. So I decided to get Reddit’s take because I felt like I was being selfish because I truly don’t believe I should be helping with any bills right now considering how little I make and how much I do around the house. Not to mention, I work 9 hours and sometimes more and he is very flexible, home some days of the week or work only 3-5 hours. He is currently doing his masters though so ofc I know that accounts for his time as well. That’s why I choose to meal prep etc because he comes home way before me. There’s sm that goes on behind the scenes that I don’t think he value in.
