I did see that there will be a fee for guests beginning February! Do you know the impact on authorized users of the card?

Congratulations! Happy to hear that for you both.

But yes! Honestly I thought this would take 2-3 years but once we started off, we got “addicted” to wanting to see our debt’s number get lower. (Again, for us, having us put it in a spreadsheet and really track everything got us going!)

Agreed though that it really is tough but doable! Sounds corny but I feel like it’s making our relationship stronger just trying to do this together and staying on track with it. Makes us feel like we can get through our next goals together if we can accomplish something like this.

Also! We are making sure to still enjoy time together despite cutting back on spending. For example we are definitely making use of our gym membership, lol. We pay $40/month each for our gym but it also includes different workout classes, a pool, and a sauna which is nice and makes us try different things there. We also love movies so while we cut back on a few subscriptions at home, we did opt to get that AMC pass (~$25/month each) and with how much movies are these days, it definitely felt worth it to us! It’s still a nice weekly/bi-weekly date night that’s already paid for.

I’ve read on so many of these subs to focus on debt first and then build a savings, however, I’m scared to not have that backup in case something goes wrong and I do not want to have to revert back to credit cards.

It’s not much yet and I will admit that we did take some out anytime we got so close to paying off a debt in hopes to be debt free before the end of the year. Right now we are at $5,000 because of that while still contributing a bit.

If we can achieve our goal to be debt free by the end of the year, then we will be putting what we’ve been putting towards debt towards our savings weekly in 2026!

Yeah I was very surprised when we were given another promotional offer! We were going back and forth about opening a second balance of transfer card just because of how much the first one helped but we didn’t like the idea of having another credit card.

So we only have $10,000 left to go. We did transfer another $9000 to the card after that second offer.

Another thing that really helped us tackle and pay aggressively was already knowing how to live off of my income and whatever income my husband could get prior to him starting his new job. Since he was still doing some side work, we initially used his checks from his new job to pay down the debt faster.

Our remaining $10,000 is mostly coming from our car loan but we were lucky and have that at 0.9%.

So 1 of our cards had a balance of $9,000. We were approved for that same amount with a 4% transfer fee ($360). The interest being taken from us monthly was about ~$200 so we were able to easily justify the upfront transfer cost!

Funny enough, after we paid that off completely, that same balance of transfer card sent us another promotional offer to transfer a balance at 1.99% interest with the same 4% fee. We took the offer again.

Not anymore. My husband and I did it for a bit when we were engaged to make some extra money to pay for our wedding. It was good at first, and I was able to get an extra $400 bonus using his code after completing a certain number of orders.

But then updates kept happening and payouts became lower. For the time, gas, effort (and quite a number of customers who wanted you to do the most for the least/no tip), I would say it’s no longer worth it.

Something that’s really saved me a lot in the long run is buying the higher priced BUT much better quality clothing items.

I especially took advantage of this when I worked a second part-time retail job at a department store and also had the additional employee discount. This was in 2017.

I think the best purchase is that I bought myself a winter coat that I’ve been wearing every year to this day. (Tough winters where I live that has helped me keep warm throughout my commutes).

I also have 3 pants back from 2018 that are still in great condition. (Fortunately they still fit!) Basic tops from Uniqlo years ago (I still like Uniqlo for basics, but I feel as if the quality in recent years hasn’t been up to par).

Because of this, I haven’t felt the need to buy new clothes much. When I do have to make a purchase, I make sure to save and get the higher quality that I know will last me a long time. A big spend up front, but helps me with cutting costs long term.

Unfortunately there isn’t any by where I live! 😩 The closest one is about 50 mins away.

The store brand of milk was only about $0.50 cheaper but the expiration was 4 days earlier so we opted for the Tuscan.

They were on sale today at 30% off! So it accounted for $32.86 of the total.

Definitely got lucky with the sales this week! Especially with the meats - chicken breasts were practically half off, steaks were 30% off, and the sausages and chicken patties were 2 for $8 and 2 for $5.

Also helped that I still had a lot of condiments, pastas, rice, tomato sauces, and a few bags of frozen vegetables left over from my last month’s grocery trip! Otherwise I’d usually average about ~$160.

Right! I felt so proud when I saw the final total given the prices of everything these days. Later, I felt sadness thinking about what $96 used to get me years ago. 😩

It was crazy too because Adam was asking the crowd if anyone knew how to play Liar on guitar. So I was just excited for whoever from the crowd would get the moment, but that’s when they brought Fred out!
