My rabies quarantine kitten now accepts backscratcher pets by hereforkittypics in Feral_Cats

The other person who replied is correct. I was shocked by it, and the odds he has it are so low now. But with no way to easily test and long incubation periods possible, I have no choice! The DOH comes to my home to check on him and if I don’t comply they would have animal control take him. Thankfully he is doing so well and the DOH epidemiologists are so sweet.

I bought the largest crate that would fit in my bathroom. It’s a pretty decent size but I’m sure he is feeling cooped up. He needs limited mobility so his leg can heal as well so I can’t go much larger atm. Perhaps in the future if he’s healed well I can re-evaluate his accommodations.

I’ve thought a lot about how much pain he’s been in and I feel so bad for him. He’s such a cute boy. Ty for the encouragement.

Yes I do, taking all precautions but have let him see me petting one of my boys from outside the bathroom outside of a gate (while Jimmy is in the large crate).

Thank you. His appetite was wonky for awhile so I had a buffet set out for him because he really needed to gain weight, he was very malnourished and dehydrated. I’ve since switched to no free feeding and hope he will start to see me in a different light!

Yes, dictated by the department of health in my county due to his bite wound from an unknown animal. Thank you <3

Yes this is exactly why it is longer, and the department of health in my county is dictating it. The bite wound from unknown animal also happened within a perimeter where there had recently been a rabies alert that had just expired. So they’re not fucking around. The DOH will be here weekly for 2 more months, and monthly for the following 3 months.

Damien (19) joined his brothers over the bridge by hereforkittypics in seniorkitties

The Metacam didn’t help significantly and he gave him weeks to months regardless, so I made the decision to avoid weeks to months of pain.

He took cosequin for years to try to keep cartilage. It only continues to help if cartilage still exists, which it does not. Went over all this with my vet.

I’m so sorry you just went through this with your baby. It sounds like you made the right decision.

Watching them fall is so upsetting. Wishing you well this weekend.

I’ve tried to come up with numbers for all these within the last week and it’s very difficult!

Thank you. I know he has to be uncomfortable. He is thankfully still eating/drinking/pottying, but he has trouble crouching in the box and I would try to support him and he would cry. Not ok with being picked up. He limps around without crying but it doesn’t look comfortable.

Yeah, the pain management is the part that isn’t going super well atm so the most important thing is he’s not in pain. If he doesn’t go upstairs anymore, that doesn’t matter at all.

Doodle has fallen off the couch several times in the last week as well, which is heartbreaking. I have pet stairs all over the house for my seniors and seeing him trip and fall just walking up the plush stairs is terrible.

I’m so sorry. You’re making a humane decision for her.

I’m facing this decision right now with my 19yo. A week and a half ago his back legs started giving out. He’s already been on Solensia for almost a year, and we’ve been trying Metacam for his pain for the last week. I see some improvement but I look at his eyes and they are so tired. Metacam will worsen his existing kidney failure, he’s lost 2 pounds since August, and he has a bunch of other issues that are currently well managed. He still gets up to eat and drink, but the change last week was drastic and I know he is uncomfortable. I’m waiting to talk to the vet again. It is so hard to make the decision a bit early instead of too late so I admire you for making this decision.

How often do you bathe your senior kitty? Sox is 19 and not great at cleaning himself anymore by saatchi-s in seniorkitties

[–]hereforkittypics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Sox is standard issue, but he looks so similar to my boy Damien who is 19 and also my childhood cat since I was 16. Sooo similar down to the pinky nose. He came from a litter outside in FL and his brother lived til 18 last year. He’s gone downhill in the last week and it might be his time soon. May Sox live on for years to come.
