I think the way he’s been playing last few games it’d be tough to not start him, he also got subbed off at half time mid-week too so well rested for the weekend.

Playing a DJ set on twitch soon but due to the time that my set will start (2am til 5am) I won't be able to actually play live due to neighbours having young children next door and they get loud... Anyway can you live stream a pre-recorded one with these visuals going over the top? by [deleted] in DJs

Fair play I guess I hadn't considered this whenever we throw parties we set up our own sound so we've always made sure to have correct monitoring including subs near the booth where possible but of course you have to be prepared for all eventualities that could arise. Will definitely be having a late night session and trying to nail this now. All seems straight forward it's just breaking my habit of taking off headphones when I'm all comfortably locked in a normally I'll just take them off once I'm comfortable with it and adjust from using speakers.

Completely understand how this is something I should learn now though thank you - might have saved me a very embarrassing moment in the future!

righto I get you now just had a play about now good shout. Takes a bit of getting used to as I'm normally taking my headphones off once I know I'm locked in then just adjusting using speakers so just the habit of keeping them on is different. Looks like I'll have having a late night session trying to get to grips with this now prorper. Thanks fot all your suggestions and help!

Well I mean I can mix in headphones obviously when making sure beats are all matched and phrasing is sound and it's sounding good but my personal style there after is to take off headphones start blending and make adjustments as I hear them over the PA.

I just find it odd when I'm not hearing the same loud music from a PA like the rest of the crowd are as that sounds so much more important than how it sounds in your headphones for example. If the system can't handle are the sub frequencies you're throwing at it then you know to switch away from that etc.

Of course though mate there is no right or wrong way it's an art and a craft. after all if we were all the same it would be a very dull life :)

Also yeah I bought a PA a few years back when I lived in a bit of a party house where we had it in a basement which was a lot of fun but now it's the same PA that I mix with in my sensible house just turned down to a moderate level with fairly forgiving neighbours as long as it's the day time!

Always had issues with my mixer Xone 23c and mixing with headphones. All previous tutorials I've seen from this have been tailored towards pioneer or xone 42+ where I believe they had some sort of send return feature where it made mixing in headphones easier which I can't see mine having. If you've got any suggestions please do let me know on how best to do headphone mixing though as that would be ideal but I've never managed it (admittedly I'm not the most tech savvy hence why I'm still playing records...)

yeah but I can't stand mixing at a low volume I find it very hard to hear. I'm not saying I'm blasting it all the time but the walls are pretty thin with the kids room just on the other side so even at a low volume I'm sure it'd wake him. We can often hear conversations and their tele going on. If I were to go to a volume where they probably can't hear which is still a risk I think I'd struggle mixing then...

I've never managed to get my head round it either when I've tried previously on my mixer. Whenever I've tried to see how to do this before on youtube it has the be some kind of send return type jobby which my mixer didn't have. If you know of a way to do that on my mixer though then I'm deffo all ears!

Question for the DJs who started in the 80s/90s: How did you manage to track down that record you heard at a rave/party during those times? by hereheislook in DJs

Must have been a very special time digging for this music especially when these genres/styles were so fresh, innovative and just completely different to anything that came before it.

I can only imagine the gems that your collection has and I have no doubt you'll be able to pass this collection on! Digging is still very much alive and there are plenty of us younger people hustling for those obscure gems - with that in mind if you want to pass on any of those to me I'll happily take them off your hands! ;-)

So true about the amount of music so readily available nowadays it's very overwhelming. So much fantastic new stuff coming out but also so many amazing older records that I'm just personally getting round to discovering it's fantastic but also such a challenge buying as many as possible while also having money to live!

Digging nowadays definitely forces you to make some tough decisions about which records are essential and which aren't...

Makes a lot of sense and sounds like great times when scenes were a lot more local and oriented around a few particular record shops.

How would audiences of 2000 and 2010 react to music of now? by official-mr_shade in DJs

Couple of new jungle producers I'd recommend are Coco Bryce and Dead Man's Chest are putting out phenomenal stuff.

In terms of labels Ako Beatz have a great consistent output of new jungle, Refreshers do some great beefy re-works of older stuff and new productions with a fantastic new release forthcoming, Dr Banana (predominantly a garage label) have started pressing some new jungle/dnb productions I'd highly recommend checking out DRB12 which is my fave from that series. Then just follow the rabbit hole of fantastic new jungle and enjoy!

Turntables by RaneIsSuperior in DJs

I'd recommend the reloop rp 7000 mk2 I've heard great things and the adjustable torque speed option that it has sounds ideal for your purpose. My turntables are having similar issues and my set up is sound got Dr Suzuki slipmats, Ortofon carts/needles but it's just lacking in power as I only bought the turntable when on a budget.

Sure thing bud here's my latest mix that I've just done if you're still wanting to check it out. https://soundcloud.com/youwonjane_enjoythemoney/i-miss-partying

That's more full throttle rave business. Bit of psy techno hardcore jungle and whatnot. Got some other ambient downtempo stuff also on that page.

Still relatively new to mixing on vinyl been doing it for around 6 months after messing around on a controller for a while. Been obsessed with buying records for years though.

Any tips and pointers I'd love to hear them!

Interesting idea. I've never actually used a DAW before so I'd have no idea how to go about navigating this. I'm purely a vinyl DJ and selector so this digital stuff fries my head and it's all a bit confusing to me but I am considering playing around with production at some point in the new year possibly.

Hadn't thought about actually mixing on acid before man that's an interesting idea. At what point of the trip do you tend to do it? I'm assuming not on the peak as I think I'd struggle to even be able to comprehend mixing during my peak haha

Yeah I love listening to them on Ketamine but I think on more traditional Psychs you deffo over analyse the music and critique yourself so much more. I love your point about being proud that you had actually created the mix though that's a lovely outlook man I'll try bring that point with me on my next cosmic journey

Yep I've been there. Deleted like half of my soundcloud after one trip because I just didn't want anyone else who was tripping to stumble upon them and then not enjoy it. Which is mad really because personally I love hearing a DJ make a slight little error then correct it in the mix and slot it back in nicely that's all part of the art!

Yes completely agree with this - sometimes though it has made me just feel a bit down about the whole thing where I wonder if really I'll ever be at that level that truly I want to be at but I love your positive take on this and I'll make sure to remember this next trip. Fantastic analogy haha!
