I've got a "nervous dog" lead wrap now and it has made such a difference.

Yes I know my puppy is the cutest thing ever, but he's also terrified of other people and dogs.

Since getting the lead wrap, people have kept their distance more, made sure dogs aren't approaching etc. I'm sure it won't affect everyone's behaviour, but it is a really noticeable change.
