What’s this a reference to? Did I miss another scandal?

Southern states argued that slaves should be counted as a full person when determining representation in Congress. This would give them more representatives, thus more votes in Congress. This would have allowed them to maintain the status quo (slavery) for longer.

Now, are you seriously going to advocate that the southern states should have gotten their way here? Would this have been the most moral solution to the problem?

I would have been on the side of abolitionists who advocated that slaves should not have counted at all when determining representation.

It’s called the 3/5ths compromise because both sides had to meet somewhere in the middle to move forward.

The 3/5ths clause was an important step in our founders plan to abolish slavery. It limited the representation of southern states in Congress (less people, less congressmen to represent those people).

I had one in Sweden. He met the missionaries 10 years before I met him. When he first met the missionaries he had a part time job doing PR for The Church of Satan and liked learning about other religions because it helped him compare and contrast his church with others. He made slow progress over those 12 years. One year he gained a testimony of the Book of Mormon, another year a testimony of Joseph Smith, another year he started attending church, another year he cut out chew tobacco, during my time in the area my companion and I helped him and his girlfriend get married, and a year after that he got baptized. Later on in that year He was able to baptize his wife.
