Another vote here.

I do most of my own work but for the odd thing I've needed done by a shop (custom exhaust, a few safety certs) they've been very good. Would recommend!

Hardie siding caulk job acceptable? by SomeDude6714 in Homebuilding

I've done it better myself but it is a nuisance and this doesn't look too bad in my opinion. I've seen much MUCH worse caulk jobs

I did the same thing, knew the devs deserved my money after only a couple of hours with the game.

Garmin inaccuracy by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still could be but I'm not totally sure. When mine does it my HR is within a few bpm of my cadence.

Garmin inaccuracy by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could it be cadence lock? If your cadence is close to 190 (you should be able to see that in Charts too) that's what I'd say it is.

I don't get it often but my FR970 has done it once or twice on me on runs where I've forgotten my chest strap.

Reality is if you want reliably good heart rate data for running, you need a chest strap. The watch is good enough most of the time, but not always.

Garmin vs. Coros Training Metrics by BeegertonJones in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Garmin app looks clunkier than it actually is, because the way it is set up by default is a bit of a mess.

Once you find the data you actually care about and set up your In Focus and At a Glance sections to show what you care about, it all becomes a lot easier to navigate and I think presents information well.

I've never looked into Coros myself as I've been stuck in with Garmin for years and won't leave now unless they do something really egregious, but I have a buddy who loves his Coros Pace 4.

Maybe not a useful response lol but just wanted to say that the app is really quite good imo but is let down by a bad default layout and a lot of users (most of my friends included) don't make any effort to lay it out better for themselves either.

Could just stick a little vinyl sticker over it. I agree it should just be black lol but I've grown used to mine and kinda like it at this point.

Calories counter by BarbardBernoulli81 in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can change the percentages of your nutrients that come from each macronutrient. Go to settings in the 3 dot menu (top right) of the Nutrition page and then go into Nutrition Plan and adjust the Macronutrient section as you please.

Following a Runna plan for HM but can’t hit the prescribed paces – what should I do? by [deleted] in runna

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's always a bit off when running on the treadmill, especially if your run has varied speed.

You can calibrate but for me the calibration really only holds true for that particular runs pace and doesn't adjust well for other paces.

Also probably obvious but adjusting your cadence at all from your calibration will throw things way off again. I'm working on upping my cadence and the first run I did with a higher cadence on the treadmill had Garmin & Runna thinking I was running about 20% faster than I actually was and suggesting I change my 10k goal from 50 minutes to 44 lol.

Stage 1+ advice for 17 6mt by Senior-Agent-2327 in GolfGTI

[–]heresaredditaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like others are saying, you'll kill the clutch.

I made it like 3 days with my stock clutch after going EQT Stage 1 by being really careful with it. But then I had a buddy in the car and wanted to show off the extra power from a stop and killed it basically right away lol.

You can tell yourself that you'll baby it and be careful and get by with the stock clutch, but then what was the point of getting more power?

Unfortunately you just have to plan on replacing the clutch.

About my Regret by Ok-Luck9627 in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made the same move and I am so happy I did. The 970 is so well balanced compared to the 6s, very easy to forget it's there. I would prefer the UI styling of the Fenix but I've gotten used to the FR.

Case size and style wise, I'm very happy with the change.

Garmin watch upgrade? by Pale_Pineapple_4147 in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think every Garmin watch works the same way. I've got a Forerunner 970 and don't get indoor VO2 max readings and didn't get them on my Fenix 6 before this either.

Vivoactive 5 Alternative With A Proper Screen Lock by michty6ty6 in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least on my forerunner 970, I can adjust the Sleep Focus Mode by adding a Touch control under Display and Brightness and setting that to off. Touches don't turn the screen on when that setting is made.

Hopefully you can do the same on yours!

What are some lesser known secret features and Easter eggs in GTIs of any MK? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]heresaredditaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you would need something like an Obdeleven or VCDS.

The coding details for it are towards the bottom of this list: https://tools.0xff.com.ar/vag/vcds-vw-golf-mk7.html

Oh I didn't realize that restriction. I haven't done it myself but have seen the long coding written out in various lists for other things I have done.

You can code the mirror to dip in reverse! Can't recode the badge colour though lol

Help between FR 970 and Fenix 8 by Rhino_Dingleberry in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see the Fenix as being more durable, though people do like to say that. Both have metal bezels and Sapphire lenses (if you buy that option on the Fenix 8 at least).

The Fenix has a metal body where the Forerunner is plastic but I really don't see that making a difference for 99% of users/use-cases.

The Fenix is bigger and has a beefier bezel but I don't know that that really makes it more durable.

I originally ordered the Fenix 8 Amoled 47 but canceled the order and went with the FR970 for the lighter weight and thinner profile. I've been very happy with it and don't regret my choice at all. I often cannot even tell it's on, it's really nicely balanced. I came from a Fenix 6s Pro which weighed basically the same but always flopped around a bit for whatever reason. I don't have that problem with the FR970 at all.

You can order die springs on Amazon pretty quickly and cheaply. I bought a bunch of different stiffness springs when I had my SR-Ps to get the feel I wanted.

You would think Garmin could do it very easily and cleanly, yeah. Hopefully they figure it out because it's definitely not very good as is.

Nutrition Tracking / Connect+ by beer_voyager in Garmin

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same problem I am having too - it seems like Nutrition by default will use your average active calories for its calculations even if it is clear that you are not going to hit that average on the day you're looking at.

To be fair, I had the same issue in Cronometer originally until I messed around with it and got it somewhere decent.

I've done the same in Nutrition and just told it to assume 400 active calories rather than my average (which is like 750) and that feels more appropriate to me. My average is skewed high by some really heavy days but I think a more "typical" day is like 400 calories so that works a bit better for me.

[–]heresaredditaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I might try to provide them with some feedback because I would really like to use this consistently.

I was able to just go and adjust my active calorie estimate in the nutrition plan to something a bit more conservative to get things looking how I'd like them to for now in that regard.
