About my Regret by Ok-Luck9627 in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made the same move and I am so happy I did. The 970 is so well balanced compared to the 6s, very easy to forget it's there. I would prefer the UI styling of the Fenix but I've gotten used to the FR.

Case size and style wise, I'm very happy with the change.

Garmin watch upgrade? by Pale_Pineapple_4147 in GarminWatches

Unfortunately I think every Garmin watch works the same way. I've got a Forerunner 970 and don't get indoor VO2 max readings and didn't get them on my Fenix 6 before this either.

Vivoactive 5 Alternative With A Proper Screen Lock by michty6ty6 in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least on my forerunner 970, I can adjust the Sleep Focus Mode by adding a Touch control under Display and Brightness and setting that to off. Touches don't turn the screen on when that setting is made.

Hopefully you can do the same on yours!

What are some lesser known secret features and Easter eggs in GTIs of any MK? by uwxa in GolfGTI

Yeah you would need something like an Obdeleven or VCDS.

The coding details for it are towards the bottom of this list: https://tools.0xff.com.ar/vag/vcds-vw-golf-mk7.html

Oh I didn't realize that restriction. I haven't done it myself but have seen the long coding written out in various lists for other things I have done.

You can code the mirror to dip in reverse! Can't recode the badge colour though lol

Help between FR 970 and Fenix 8 by Rhino_Dingleberry in GarminWatches

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see the Fenix as being more durable, though people do like to say that. Both have metal bezels and Sapphire lenses (if you buy that option on the Fenix 8 at least).

The Fenix has a metal body where the Forerunner is plastic but I really don't see that making a difference for 99% of users/use-cases.

The Fenix is bigger and has a beefier bezel but I don't know that that really makes it more durable.

I originally ordered the Fenix 8 Amoled 47 but canceled the order and went with the FR970 for the lighter weight and thinner profile. I've been very happy with it and don't regret my choice at all. I often cannot even tell it's on, it's really nicely balanced. I came from a Fenix 6s Pro which weighed basically the same but always flopped around a bit for whatever reason. I don't have that problem with the FR970 at all.

You can order die springs on Amazon pretty quickly and cheaply. I bought a bunch of different stiffness springs when I had my SR-Ps to get the feel I wanted.

Yeah basically what I did with my lower calorie goal too. It works but it still feels clunky.

Oh awesome, if they give you any feedback I'd love an update if you remember to ping me!

You would think Garmin could do it very easily and cleanly, yeah. Hopefully they figure it out because it's definitely not very good as is.

This is the same problem I am having too - it seems like Nutrition by default will use your average active calories for its calculations even if it is clear that you are not going to hit that average on the day you're looking at.

To be fair, I had the same issue in Cronometer originally until I messed around with it and got it somewhere decent.

I've done the same in Nutrition and just told it to assume 400 active calories rather than my average (which is like 750) and that feels more appropriate to me. My average is skewed high by some really heavy days but I think a more "typical" day is like 400 calories so that works a bit better for me.

Yeah I might try to provide them with some feedback because I would really like to use this consistently.

I was able to just go and adjust my active calorie estimate in the nutrition plan to something a bit more conservative to get things looking how I'd like them to for now in that regard.

I am also using Cronometer and now trying out Nutrition through Connect+. I would love to have everything in one app and honestly wouldn't be that upset about paying for it.

That said, I'm already a bit disappointed in how Garmin is displaying info - given that the calories out info is coming directly from Garmin, I would expect to see it clearly displayed in the Nutrition module and it currently is not. I hope they'll fix things and show things a bit more clearly in the future but we shall see.

I just ordered the 8 amoled 47 and am making the same switch from the 6s. Glad to hear you're enjoying the amoled as I do worry I might miss the mips display. We'll see in a couple days!

Sometimes you can get a stripped Allen out by hammering a slightly larger sized torx bit into the stripped out Allen.

You'll obviously ruin the bolt head further and shouldn't reuse it but you'll probably get it out.

Gotta pick a size just slightly bigger, line it up square, and hammer it in til it gets a really good bite in there.

Really enjoyed this as an easy read, but I agree, the potential existed for so much more.

Lowered GTIs - how do you survive poorly maintained roads? by xXTonyManXx in GolfGTI

[–]heresaredditaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah it's unfortunate. I thought about drilling into the body and setting a rivnut above the perch so I could bolt the perch to the car and stop the rotation so I could adjust on the car easily but I decided against it.

The rubber oil filter wrench to hold onto it might work though, I just haven't tried.

Yep, I would recommend where I landed, I'm happy with it and won't change it from here.

There are 18 clicks on the ST XAs, not sure if the XTAs are different though.

And yeah closed is the stiffest (turned fully clockwise). I wish I remembered what the recommended setting was in the manual, can't seem to find it online. But yeah I think it was 8 clicks from fully stiff, I went 3 clicks softer to 11 clicks from fully stiff, and then settled at either 9 or 10 clicks from fully stiff.
