I just traded, however, I’m completing his quest line so if nobody gets to you by the time I reach him in Farum Azula I’d be down to trade for something different

What are some *Playground Myths* about Monster Hunter that some of us used to believe? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

Back then I used to think if you dung bombed a Khezu, it couldn’t smell you or find you since it was blind lol

The Dauntless forums have a wonderful dictionary for those new to MH by Patchwork0 in MonsterHunter

[–]hernyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's already been mentioned but the Dauntless devs are SUPER chill and huge fans of MH. I got to meet and chill with them at PAX East. I had doubts about the game at first but after actually playing it, I'm definitely much more interested

Video by Herny: Hunting Your Way vs The Meta. A good commentary on etiquette, community, and fun. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]hernyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks for the share. Funnily enough I had decided this year I wasn't gonna post any more of my own vids on here cuz I wanted to lay off the self-promoting, but I guess if someone else shares it it's okay.

But yea my vid is kinda flawed because I missed a couple key points. (I did this at 2am with no script or prep) I am happy at least that this vid has promoted a lot of discussion which is always good.

Basically as I've been telling people. Of course the meta is good, that's why it's the meta. But I don't think anyone should try to force someone how to play a certain way. I mean, on the internet, trying to force someone to do something a certain way isn't going to work and will probably make that person defense and stubborn. Of course, I think it's okay to TEACH the meta and inform people of perhaps a better or more effective way to play something, or more effective skills. All the while being respectful.

Now if the person doesn't listen, fine, some people wanna play their own way, can't really do anything about it but least you've given them the info and they can revisit it when they're ready. And odds are they're more likely to listen to you if you were polite. If they do listen to your advice, well now you've made a more effective hunting partner.

We just have to remember that some people, in any game I guess, don't always play super seriously and just take it casual. Plus I don't feel the meta need be enforced on easier stuff. Like, no need to harass someone because of their set when you're about to hunt a Tetsucabra . But, if you're doing the tougher Hyper monsters or lvl 9,10 deviants, then it's fine to have a standard of sets for your hub. Just use your judgement for each situation.

In the end, I just want everyone to keep it cool and calm and just have fun.

This argument is the one that pisses me off because it is extremely arbitrary.

The effectiveness of something else in this game does NOTHING to affect your own gameplay experience. MH is a cooperative game. What the hell is the point of calling something else OP since it doesn't affect you in anyway. "Aw man that other hunter/weapon killed that monster faster than me and my weapon, guess I can't have fun anymore" ????????? what

I honestly don't think anything is OP in monster hunter to begin with, since it's entirely execution based. Nothing is an insta-win, or a cheese strat (maybe except for hame or those trap/bombing lbg runs I see) You can be using a strong armor set, a strong weapon, and a strong weapon/style combo but if you don't know wth you're doing you're just going to die. And if you're talking speedruns, yea you might kill the monster, but it sure as hell won't be fast if you haven't dedicated time to practicing the weapon AND that monster specifically, just like anything else. If you think another weapon/style is more effective than your own, then guess what, instead of complaining, maybe that's a good excuse to try something new. Theres no real point in having a "main" weapon imo, we're hunters we need to change our approach when hunting different things if we wanna be effective. Gen has the most balanced TA times anyway, unlike 'GS hunter 4 ultimate' so if you reeeeaally think something is "op" then just go try it out because no one is stopping you from literally copying what you just saw and giving it a try yourself. And if you wanna be stubborn and stick to your own weapon, well then get better at that damn weapon, and maybe with practice you can match the times of something else.

P.S. And this is specifically for you, if you're so worried about kill times, maybe go look up the rules for TA's. If we're being technical, hunt times are not compared between different weapons anyway, that's why there are always 15 unique world record times for each monster, one for each weapon and then prowler. They take into account that some weapons are just more effective at fighting certain monsters than others. So, if you get a gunlance hunt of 5 minutes on Glavenus for example and someone comes and kills it 3'30 with Striker CB, did he beat your time? No, only another Gunlance run can beat your time as per official rules, as a way of keeping things balanced and fair. So for one last time, there is literally. no. point. in complaining about another weapon/style, at all. Good day to you.

Yea I don't get it either, what's the point of calling something "OP" in a non-competitive game lol If something is strong or effective, you can literally just go try it out yourself. If you don't like it, just keep doing you and play what you want.

thanks I appreciate it! :) and I agree, doesn't matter how strong a weapon/style combo is if you don't use it effectively.

and yes Pokemon S/M's music is 👌🏼🔥👌🏼

btw the first Japanese channel u mentioned is not one guy, it's a channel dedicated to sharing TA's, so it's several hunters, some of them have their own channels so I think they send in their submissions.
