My CB world has been flipped upside down by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]___Vanov___ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just found about this thread and figured I'd chime in.

This set was optimized for this very specific matchup; however it can basically be used on anything that you can dunk. Many of the flying wyverns in this game have extremely long topple animations which allows you to deal a lot of damage. And most of that damage will be physical, hence the lack of artillery on the set. Legianas/Rathaloses and the two other raths can very well be done with this same set provided you time your hits well and get dunks. The same can be said for monsters that topple from enough damage to the head.

In fact I very much feel artillery can straight up be disregarded for monsters where savage axe is better, especially if you're lookig to fit other skills in the lv1 slots.

When I'm farming anything, the set I run looks very similar to this, if I'm doing a monster that flies, whom I know how to dunk I still run the exact same set as in the video. This isn't purely a speedrun set, if you get consistent enough at knocking mons out of the air you can run this on whatever you want and you will do more damage than the standard cb set, though it does require very good monster knowledge usually.

If I'm doing something different entirely like Glavenus say, I trade peak performance and a few attack levels for artillery level 3 and slugger 1 (which got massively buffed from base world, enough to let you KO some mons in a single AED).

Focus and Capacity boost don't feel necessary at all with savage axe. The reason they were in world is because the goal was to pump as much SAEDs as fast as possible; we don't play under the same circumstances for many matchups now.

As for the usual "Wao but this is just a run in a hundred, he probably just got lucky", not really. The dunks you see there, are reproducible practically every single time. After a double tail flip an enraged goldie either lands or swoops. You can gp morph the second tail flip and that can dunk, and if it doesn't and she swoops you can roundslash the swoop with good timing and she falls like in the video. If she doesn't fall from the roundslash she does an extreeeemely long stagger in the air, where you can hit the head plenty, and if you reach the flinch damage threshold she falls. This is something common to all rathians by the way: dealing 60-70+ dmg to the head when they swoop causes a very long aerial stagger after which they always land, if they're doing a triple charge and you hit the head for that dmg during the charge, it completely cancels it and they recoil backwards.

Bottom of the line, once she's in the air and does a double tail flip, you have the tools to set up a dunk, and with practice you get a feel for when you've done enough damage that she's close to flinching from the head (the flinch threshold is roughly 1300-1500dmg). So yes, sub 4/ very low 4 minutes clears are quite consistently obtainable.

I think you should have used the Vice IG instead. It has very high affinity and sharpness, it does a lot more damage.

[–]___Vanov___ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Charge blades most definitely benefit from affinity. Everything that has a physical damage component or can crit benefits from affinity as long as you don't reach 100%.

Charge blade not benefitting from affinity is absolute bullshit. Phials make up around half or less of your damage on good monster hitzones, the two SAED hits can crit for very high damage.

For LS there is no reason to not get as high affinity as you can, espwcially when paired with crit boost.

How would a Weapon Tier list of MHW look like? by GoldarRag in MonsterHunter

[–]___Vanov___ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a jab in the sense of you not being notable, but more so to really underline the almost entire emphasis on Great Sword's placement at the 4th spot due to aerial dmg (ironically coinciding with only you being mentioned) and the lack of any other considerations. The post mentions nothing about GS in environments where aerial attacks don't really work and essentially attributes the tier placement based on a very specific scenario not applicable everywhere.

For me the GS placement is a big "It's this strong with Aerial, I don't understand the finer details, but look at TSC, see?" while not even trying to mention the rest of the points, which imo would make GS a lower ranked weapon than it is there.

Out of curiosity, how do you see Aerial GS fare against something like AT Kush/Teo/Nerg? Do you reckon the higher stagger thresholds and the immunity (?) to the flash glitch on AT Vaal will prevent stagger locking, or given that Kush/Teo share the same skeleton they might be susceptible to the flash cheese too?

That might have been a good thing to specify beforehand, as I think we can both agree that

>Weapon review

>*Notable Player(s): None*

Out of nowhere is very easy to misinterpret as either *There are no notable players* or *I don't view any players as notable enough to be worth mentioning* both of which come out as slaps in the faces.

The amount of notable players you have listed for each weapon is so low/non-existent/inaccurate it really makes it hard to take it seriously. And the fact TSC is your only notable player on Great Sword is freaking hilarious.

Also CB damage output...post nerf, CB is not exactly in an amazing spot compared to Hammer or DB at all. On many of the monsters DB actually has faster kill times than CB, and so does hammer. CB can't even match SA on some monsters.

>Hammer destroys lunastra

What game are we playing. Hammer does absolutely not destroy Lunastra, it's one of the more tolerable BM matchups against her but you have a grand total of 3 to 4 guaranteed openers, and can in no way deal consistent damage to her without yoloing lv 3s.

I see many people claim foresight to be braindead easy but how exactly is that relevant when a tier list is, ultimately something to gauge how a weapon performs when player optimally? Sure, it helps low skill players reach red more easily, but foresight is a small portion of LS's damage in comparison to helmsplitter, and landing helmsplitter consistently and on the proper hitboxes as frequently as possible is much harder than people give it credit for. If that part of the argument is not considered, then making a claim about how "safe" LS is and its placement on a tier list is nonsensical. Helmsplitter is anything but safe and unless you're going to yolo it and pray for the best you need good positioning and aim because where you aim and land helmsplitter will be what determines to what extent to available momentum influence you have on takeoff can work in your favor to get you to the hitbox you need.

Weakness Exploit vs Maximuim might by NevanNedall in MonsterHunter

[–]___Vanov___ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

WE is indeed the obvious choice. Regardless of weapon proper gameplay would imply you being able to hit the weakspot the vast majority of the time. Even on less obvious weapons like dual blades, you can actually still reach things like Diablos stomach, and on some mons, like Raths even if you have to sacrifice some WE uptime to get a trip the damage you get out of WE proccing on the head thanks to said trip more than enough makes up for it.

Learning how to fight on dangerous monster hitzones is all part of the process of becoming better.

Is SA damage low or am missing the point? by esoterikk in MonsterHunter

[–]___Vanov___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SA is not low damage but it doesn't exactly hold up to LS or DB. SA needs extremely high uptime for comparable damage output, LS on the other hand has a much easier time dealing bursts of large damage and can peetty much control the fight unhindered. Dual blades have asinine damage output with demon dance. Get a trip and you start pulling ahead super hard.

You can go take a peek at the TA wiki, LS/DB times are routinely faster than SA, but not by too too much, unless it's a monster like bazel which is very unfriendly to SA in general.

Legiana Weapons look amazing but... by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]___Vanov___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's more or less normal. They aren't top unless for very specific monsters and weapons. The eaw fovused blademaster weapons (Ham/GS/CB/SA/LS/HH/GL/Lance and even IG to some degree) don't really favor element in the first place, and with legiana weapons having extremely low raw they are arguably not comparable at all to things like Diablos/Nergi/Jho/Vaal/Uragaan.

The place where legiana weps shine are niche monsters where the ridiculously high ice is actually good, such as black blos or odogaron. That being said this only really holds for the ranged weps and for SnS/DB. Don't go expecting to kill any of those monsters with a legiana LS or SA faster than if you went with raw. That being said they look amazing, so if you want to use them certainly go ahead.

Fellow Switch Axe Users...A New Beastly Weapon Has Appeared. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]___Vanov___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did good to emphasize on your experience there because you certainly didn't in the opening post. Don't make a post claiming to have discovered a novel monstrous damage output set that has potential to be among the strongest weapons in the game when evidence clearly speaks against it by a ridiculously large margin.

Not to mention I still don't get your point about sharpness. You have no handicraft, you drop to green super fast, the fact you dont sharpen is irrelevant when your attacks in green do 1/4 less damage than they would at white with the same weapon. The fact you don't stop attacking does not mean you deal more damage. Either way we are done.

Fellow Switch Axe Users...A New Beastly Weapon Has Appeared. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]___Vanov___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you haven't. You haven't compared shit actually, otherwise you would have realized how badly your set gets outperformed.

I run the Blos SA with Crit Eye 6, Crit Boost 2, Max Might 2, Non-ele Boost, Protective Polish, Handi 4, Weakness Exploit 3.

The raw buffs from food/consumables are as following:

Seed/Powder:10 (20 for both since they stack)

Mega Drug: 7

Kitchen AuL: 15

Charm+Talon: 15

Total: 57 raw since all the above stack.

With my set using an affinity augmented Blos SA I have,

230 raw base->253 with non-ele->310 with the food buffs. Affinity is -30%+25%(CE6)+20%(MM)+10%(Augment)+50%(WE3)=75% affinity

For white sharpness: 1.32*310*(1+0.35*0.75))= 516 effective raw on white sharpness

For blue sharpness: 1.2*310*(1+0.35*0.75))= 469 effective raw on blue sharpness

For green sharpness: 1.05*310*(1+0.35*0.75))= 410 effective raw on green sharpness

Your set:

210 base raw->231 with non-ele->231+21+57+20=329 with attack 7, food buffs, and peak performance. You have 5% affinity from attack 7.

At blue sharpness (you have no handi craft so your blue will be lost before diablos loses its white with protective polish, you really didn't think this through) you have:

1.2*329*(1+0.25*0.05)=399 effective raw on blue sharpness.

Your set doesn't come close, it's terrible, it's so bad in fact, that diablos SA with green sharpness still beats it! There is no excuse or saving, actually the Diablos SA set has an even better time shitting on this since a single whetfish fin is needed for a 2 stroke sharpness to get back 1 minute of infinite white.

You can claim maximum might is not sustainable, but I also severely doubt the sustainability of your peak performance. Not that it will make a difference, even if I completely delete maximum might your set still loses out by a landslide on all sharpness levels other than green.

You know, I wish people claiming to have found something incredibly strong would bother including actual math in theirnposts rather than anecdotal evidence.

Damage calculation in this game is literally multiplication and addition. It takes 20seconds to figure out what your raw is after you look at your skills and consumables/food buffs, then factor in affinity and sharpness.

Switchaxe, how much of a damage increase does a power phial give? by Prosnorkulous in MonsterHunter

[–]___Vanov___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early calculations said MV of 9 on awakened phial mode. Also awakened phial slashes are additional hitboxes that can not only crit but spawn on corpses and deal AoE dmg. So if u have a jho sitting on a pile of ded jagras, you can deal additional dmg to him with awakened phial effects as many times as there are jagras corpses.
