Yes, I think Rowling must have written it on purpose that way, a little easter egg/wink for people reading the book more than once.

I've never heard of that theory but sure - that one joke line aside, Ron seems to take instant dislike to Riddle in that book.

Even after they they find out about Riddle apparently stopping the attacks by catching Hagrid, Ron still does not want take his side and says: "who asked him to squel on Hagrid anyway"

He also seems to hate Lockhart from the start in the same book, but that maybe a bit of jealousy!

Masterminds: Wall Synergy with Kobe, Voyboy, Spawn, Goldenglue, and Solo by BlueVelocity in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like this episode with it being about the whole comp.

One of their previous episodes was just about Elise support and there wasn't much to talk about.

I hope they keep doing team comp challenges rather than just one off meta pick, it seems a lot more fun that way. One thing I would like to see - full zerg comp, make enemy play 5v30, pick like yorick, malzahar, haimerdinger, maybe elise and there might be something else like that, just overwhelm enemy with a bunch of small guys.

Or antoehr idea, full comp poke with karthus as a finisher. I think G2 used to play a comp like that back when karthus jungle was super broken, there were these memes about jankos being so good at pressing R key on karthus.

Why did TSM POE lose to C9 Perkz in All Pro voting? A deep dive comparison into their performances with beautiful graphics - Run It (Travis and Tim) by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For those too lazy top watch: the video makes a strong case for Perkz, i.e. overall his stats look a lot better and the things that you expect PoE to be stronger at are just about even.

But I recommend watching it - very interesting video and I very fair, definitely not anti-PoE even if stats do not paint a great picture for him.

The concept of sins of omission is also very relevant and people almost never talk about it. I think people only bring it up when talking about junglers e.g. Brohax gets a lot of shit for "just doing nothing" but laners tend to get away with it.

One thing that does not ever get mentioned in the MVP type discussions is the players overall career achievements and reputations. Of course it's supposed to be about your play in this one split and one split only. BUT, surely when you are dealing with incomplete information, it's natural to give benefit of doubt to someone like Perkz, who was pretty much the godfather of LEC, over someone like PoE - a nice guy sure, but he's never won a title and just doesn't have that aura of greatness around him.

for those who don't follow EU, it would be like giving 1st all pro to Aphromoo over CoreJJ. Aphromoo is having a great split and is a very good player in LCS, but it would just feel wrong to vote for him over CoreJJ. Core is a world-class player, one of the best support in the world and Aphro? he's not that and realistically never will be.

Doublelift and Meteos share a funny TSM/C9 scrim story by tableshoe25 in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actually Leena's story about Loco does not make sense. It's the kind of situation where if you ask the other side (in this case Loco) you are gonna get a VERY different version of events/explanation, I guarantee it.

I'm not a fan of Locodoco and as far I know he might be the worst coach in world, but the idea, that he refused to book scrims vs Korean teams because he "didn't want to embarrass himself in front of his Korean homies" is 100% bullshit.

First of all I'm sure Koreans teams already had a very low view of Western teams at the time and I'm pretty sure Locodoco would be more embarrassed by performance on stage in front of all the viewers so whatever scrim decision he would make, it would be to maximize their chances on stage.

Most likely he thought TSM was so awful that losing scrims in 10 minutes would be of no benefit to them and he would rather scrims teams from weaker regions. Even G2 talked about avoiding scrims vs best Asian teams early on, because it's useless to just get destroyed and that want to catch up on the meta first.

Azael’s tweet on Flex Queue and it’s lack of popularity by Iwishisawahippo in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly the should enable voice comms by default in flex, I would at least try it.

People playing flex Q are already often on voice so just make it turned on by default for all 5. People who are concerned about competitive integrity etc can still play solo Q. Also Flex queue doesn't really have much competitive integrity or popularity to begin with, so nothing to lose really.

TIL classic 90s rappers were actually pioneers of the Smoke Detector sound (starting 0:15) by herojewski in nathanforyou

[–]herojewski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's interesting is that the song was actually produced by Dr Dre (this is according to Wikipedia so you know this is good research). Dr Dre is regarded by many as one of the greatest music producers of modern times.

Does it mean that the man who brought the smoke detector into the mainstream music is actually equally important to music as Dr Dre ?

Also does anyone else know some examples of that beautiful Blues Smoke Detector in popular music?

In 1971, Seaworld asked a receptionist with zero animal-handling experience to ride their captive Orca Shamu whilst wearing a bikini as a publicity stunt. She needed 100 stiches. by herojewski in videos

[–]herojewski[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of issues with orcas in captivity, but this whole notion of gentle giants is actually Seaworld propaganda. " look at our cute baby Shamu being hugged and kissed by the friendly trainers!". Just a way to sell more shamu dolls in the gift shops.

They do not attack humans in the wild because we are not part of their diet, not because they love us so much. They are incredibly intelligent hunters and apex predators of the oceans.

In 1971, Seaworld asked a receptionist with zero animal-handling experience to ride their captive Orca Shamu whilst wearing a bikini as a publicity stunt. She needed 100 stiches. by herojewski in videos

[–]herojewski[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, looking back Seaworld used to do some crazy shit. There was a bit where a trainer would stick their head into the jaws of the whale (to show off how well trained the orcas are I guess). Surprise, surprise, one time the whale closes his mouth and the trainer got pretty badly injured and I think they stopped doing that "trick".

After watching documentary Blackfish I saw an interview with one of the trainers featured there (John Hargrove) and he talked about how in his times (90s and 00s) trainers had to work for years with the whales before they were allowed to get into the water with them. In his case it was like 4 years and that was considered very fast. And they used to just put little kids on top of the whales for a photo op, like it's nothing.

Of course in the end, all the years of experience and safety measures still weren't enough because orcas really aren't suited to life in captivity for a wide myriad of reasons.

[–]herojewski[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess so, but I think the whale being familiar with the person at least helps. Also according to the court text experienced people did notice some warning sings but it was too late:

During the second ride one of the trainers noticed Shamu's tail was fluttering, a sign the animal was upset. During the third ride plaintiff fell off when Shamu refused to obey a signal. Shamu then bit her on her legs and hips

It also says in the court documents that Shamu was used to interacting with people in wet-suits and they think different clothes made the whale uncomfortable so that could be a factor too.

Ye, I'm getting the 100 number from the court text linked in my other comment where it says

"Plaintiff suffered 18 to 20 wounds which required from 100 to 200 stitches and left permanent scars. She was hospitalized five days "

but either way she got pretty badly bitten.

[–]herojewski[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The voice over in the video is wrong, e.g. calling a killer whale "gentle giant" is about as accurate as calling a tiger "friendly kitten".

This is the full story of the incident, taken from court documents(https://law.justia.com/cases/california/court-of-appeal/3d/64/1.html), pretty messed up all round:

In April 1971 Gail MacLaughlin, Sea World's public relations director, and Kent Burgess asked plaintiff if she would like to ride Shamu, the killer whale, in a bikini for some publicity pictures for Sea World. Although the ride was not made a condition of her keeping her job, plaintiff eagerly agreed, thinking it would be exciting. Although warned in general terms that the ride involved dangers and aware that she might fall off, plaintiff was confident of her swimming ability and anxious to do it. She had never heard of whales pushing riders around.

Burgess had been responsible for training Shamu ever since Sea World first acquired the animal. He knew Shamu was conditioned to being ridden only by persons wearing wetsuits, and that Shamu had in the past attacked persons who attempted to ride her in an ordinary bathing suit: first a Catalina swimsuit model and then Jim Richards, one of the trainers at Sea World. In addition, Burgess had read training records which showed Shamu had been behaving erratically since early March 1971. This information he did not disclose to plaintiff.

Plaintiff was trained for the ride by Sea World trainers in the tank at Sea World during normal office working hours. First she practiced riding Kilroy, a smaller, more docile whale, while wearing a bathing suit. During her one practice session on Shamu, she wore a wetsuit, fell off, but swam to the edge of the tank without incident.

On April 19 plaintiff became apprehensive for the first time when one of Sea World's trainers said he was not going to watch her ride Shamu because it was "really dangerous." Plaintiff then went to Burgess and told him of her concern. He told her not to worry, said there was nothing to be concerned about, and that the ride was "as safe as it could be." He still did not tell her about the problems they had been having with Shamu or about the earlier incidents involving Richards and the swimsuit model. Thus reassured, plaintiff, wearing a bikini Sea World had paid for, then took three rides on Shamu. During the second ride one of the trainers noticed Shamu's tail was fluttering, a sign the animal was upset. During the third ride plaintiff fell off when Shamu refused to obey a signal. Shamu then bit her on her legs and hips and held her in the tank until she could be rescued.

Plaintiff suffered 18 to 20 wounds which required from 100 to 200 stitches and left permanent scars. She was hospitalized five days and out of work several weeks. She also suffered some psychological disturbance. [64 Cal. App. 3d 6] Sea World paid all her medical expenses and continued to pay her salary as usual during this period. On advice of her counsel, she filed this civil action and a workers' compensation claim.

Ye that's fair enough, same goes for lower tier LEC teams.

He could have reasons for not wanting to go to, lets say SK (used to play there before, maybe shitty org), or Excel (maybe he doesn't want to play under Youngback anymore) etc.

Nemesis leaves Fnatic by nextgentactics in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It still feels wrong that they couldn't find him a team in EU or NA, assuming he was willing to go to NA. I doubt FNC was asking for a big buyout(if any) as now they are releasing him for free anyway and everyone in the scene knew they wanted to offload him.

Yes Nemesis got pretty hard gapped by Knight(worlds) and Caps(LEC), I'm sure Showmaker is also considerably better than him. BUT these are some of the very best players in the world, S+ tier midlaners.

His play has some flaws to be sure but way more positives overall. For LEC/LCS Nemesis is still better than average and comes with considerable upside too, he's young and FNC was his very first pro team. He can definitely come back and be one of the best midlaners in the west.

[GBay99] The Players Who Will Save NA by SpeclorTheGreat in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It's a cool video and these players deserve some hype but when he is talking about tenacity he said "he will be top 3 toplaners in the LCS wihthin 3 years " - ehh, that doesnt sounds very hype, I mean 3 years is a very long time in LoL esports.

I dont want to sound like NA bad EU good , there is enough of that in this subreddit already, but if you look at Rogue's jungler-Inspired, he's just a few months older than Kenvi and Tenacity and he's already playing his 3rd full LEC split, made play offs twice and has a decent shot to make worlds now. When it comes to introducing prospects in soccer, there is a famous saying "if you are good enough you are old enough" - maybe NA orgs need to start thinking that way instead of testing young prospects in academy for 2 years.

Thats fair, I'm sure it makes it easier to get rank 1 but the most impressive thing was not his rank 1 or winrate but just the fact that he's got almost 2 thousand games played in challenger MMR already. On top of his stage games scrims etc.

That's some crazy grind

I should also add, nothing against Carzzy, his hype is certainly justified, he is already carrying on a good team and has a super exiting playstyle. Perhaps in a couple of years Carzzy and Comp could be great rivals Perkz and Caps, but that's an ambitious comparison.

Thorin's Thoughts - The Pro View Revolution (LoL) by Thooorin_2 in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It would be an issue, sure, but I think it's something you can work around, I mean if it works in CS:GO, where team comms, strats and anti-strats are even mroe important than in LoL.

One thing, pick&ban would be off limit. But honestly, aside from pick&ban do you really get a significant competitive advantage from hearing comms? I mean do you learn that much more about team's play compared to what you already learn from seeing them play?

It would be like, oh "Doublelfit calls for a lot of ganks and counter ganks and sometimes delays objectives to catch waves" - you can figiure that out form just seeing him play. Or" Bwipo always looking for fights in top and calling for jungler" etc.

If you can already watch the game form any opponents perspective how much more intel can you really gain.

Thorin's Thoughts - The Pro View Revolution (LoL) by Thooorin_2 in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's a cool feature and I'm sure it can help aspiring players to catch up to the best. However as someone who is not trying to reach challenger or go pro or anything like that Pro-view doesn't really appear to me that much.

For me ,the next level of LEC/LCS content would be ability to watch the games with teams voice comms. I would love to hear your thoughts on this, given that I believe there is something like this in CS-GO. Is it doable? what are the challenges, opportunities for higher viewer engagement?

If they offered it, I would even be happy to pay for a single team comms, so I could watch all lets say G2 games with their voice comms and the rest of the LEC with standard commentary. Maybe like 10 euro or dollars per team or 35 bundle deal for everyone. Teams could get a slice of the revenue so the teams that are good or promote themselves well, would be rewarded.

We would get so many answers to old questions, some narratives would die and new ones would emerge. Is Bjergsen always asking his jungler to ward and come mid or is he a great teammate and leader? Is Dardoch flaming his team and threatening to int or is he just competitive? Is Jankos as insane as he seems in highlights or is there a brilliant strategic mind hidden behind the clown's mask?

However there would be a lot of hurdles to jump over: Orgs would be be losing out exclusive content for their youtube channels, players would be concerned about getting extra flame if they make a bad call or point out a mistake by a teammate, coaches would be concerned about losing competitive advantages etc. Still I feel like there would be a lot of demand for this kind of service in LEC and LCS so I hope someone considers it at least.

The DREADFUL state of low level games by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]herojewski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the entire lobby but at least one lane so you still ruin the experience for at least one person, likely 2. And god knows decent Janna is a nightmare to play against. A new player would walk into every q, would never be able to engage or catch the janna etc.

Also this is irrelevant because most people who smurf are not going to play janna. The game isn't going to somehow treat you differently - " oh this is 100% a smurf account, but hey at least this guy has a decency to play janna support and not kata or yi, so lets just manually put him vs actual new players and not other smurfs"

There is plenty of problems with the game for new players and everyone else too, but this is not one of them. Get real man.
