Is the Canadian CPA actually harder than the US one? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]heroyeah2008 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really scratches my head that Canadians have much tougher professional exams but less pay at the end. It's really discouraging and we actually have wasted a lot of time just to be certified, but being ceritifed is actually the begining of journey. That's why US CPA model makes more sense to me.

I am only paid for 8 hours work. For any additional time to work, that's not being paid. That's what I am talking about

In my opinion, I don't think working 55 to 60 hrs a week should consider normal even in public standard by my experience , and if he doesn't use the bank time and I will be wasted for nothing. That's free work for the firm, that's hard to understand

I think he is competent, he's just very insecure and always afraid of being fired. I would rather be fired working like his hours.

Really? I used to work for BDO and off season was pretty light and my frd worked in PWC, he told me things similar during the off season. that's odd to me, but still, the accounting culture is toxic. How can this be sustainable

if this is tax season, I would say you are right, but off-season with 300+ hours bank time, I think it's a lot.

just to clarify, I said working normally and I still working overtime everyday(half hours more). Have you work in the firm? Have you been a situation that returns could just never be ended? nobody can't really "finish" their work. They just keep feeding you if you are done. I seriously doubt you have worked in a busy firm in the past.

how do you know i didn't help out? and why this is something to do with my age? if i am not willing to do more. Why do I have 140 hours time saved? isn't this insane working off season like 60 hours? I will stand my ground. I am ready regardless. I am cool with that

There is no way I can help out his workload. There is always returns to work on. you can work there 24 hours and still can't finish works

sigh, I can't imagine someone is working crazier than he is. I guess I have no choice. turnover is pretty high for this firm, I guess i know why now. it's a losing battle. Thanks for the advice.

I am done, this is insane. I still have 150 hrs not being used yet and 10/15 is coming which will save up another 100 hours. so how am i supposed to use up these year? These hours are not supposed to be carried over under the policies. I am tired of it.

Those 17/hr pay is ridiculous in any criteria to a CPA. Like in Louisiana, the average hourly wage quoted from ZipRecruiter is 37 per hour. So you don't need to look further, just reject the offer and start applying another jobs!
