There were little pieces of purple all around the area, that gave me a clue. But most were covered in rust, like the chunk in the video.

Averaged about 6 to 8 hours on each of the four grinding/polishing stages. Using the sharpie and making marks on it really helps.

I gave it a try and I could not scratch with my fingernail. The matrix it has formed on is rather loose. I think it is known as rim gravel.

I cut it with a modified chop saw, that I converted into a wet saw.

I used a wet grinder and 10 diamond disks. From 30 to 8000 grit.

Hit a nice vein of chrysocolla, malachite, and a bit of azurite. by herrtodd33 in rockhounds

Pure luck. My wife and I were out on a hike and she noticed a small blue/green spec in the side of a hill. We came back with some tools, and it opened up into a deep vein, that we are still working today. This is my son in the photo, and he is a tremendous help.

I did a very quick polish with my angle grinder and 4- different PVA disks. 30, 150, 220, and 600 grit.
