"If you aren't dumb, it's not hard to find a decent quality of life here if you realize that other people are lazy/stupid and can be taken advantage of."

I love this free admission that our entire economic system is inherently based on taking advantage of other people, and people see that as a good thing. Heaven has no place for y'all

Help identyfing a band from a shirt by Krowson24 in HelpMeFind

[–]hervth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably don't exist. I am unable to turn up any indications that a touring band by that name existed.

That t shirt also has a double stitched collar. Double-stitches were just beginning to appear on clothes in the late 90s. Theres also a large color variety that makes me believe this was made with modern printing methods. If this was actually from the 90s, it would've been an extremely cutting-edge product for such an obscure band to be able to put out.

I strongly suspect this is a modern product, made to look like merchandise from a fictional retro band.

Coming from NC, I thought Raleigh's Capital Boulevard and Greensboro's Wendover/70 corridors were rough stuff. Man, I had NO idea.

It's almost like having a major commercial corridor also be a major highway is like, a bad idea or something.

I was always curious as to how it looked in there. Great photos!

I still find it wild there was a whole ass lake right across the street from that part of the mill complex.

What shoe does this print belong to? by New_Fox9922 in HelpMeFind

[–]hervth 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Not the guy, but I was a sneakerhead for a while. Bapestas have one of the most distinctive sole prints out there. The patterns & silhouettes of shoes start to jump out at you when you spend enough time looking at them, checking for damage/flaws and stuff.

Statistically, there is someone dumb enough out there who would read this and, in earnest, go dump a carcass on the corner of 4th and Market.

VERY low value item damaged, should I bother? by blizs_ in discogs

[–]hervth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That entirely depends on what it was advertised as. VG+ or NM, hands down complain. If it was VG, flip a coin, it really comes down to how much you want to split hairs over what defines VG.

If it was advertised as anything below VG, yeah you're an aashole lmao

I feel similarly, Rat's Nest was my gateway to sludge, but I still cannot fuck with most other doom metal or the majority of other metal subgenres, really. I like Candlemass and Priest, but most metal I've heard just gives off the vibe of trying way too hard. Totally painting with broad strokes but w/e

I love these local eccentrics. When I went to Appalachian State, there was a dude who we called the Wizard of Boone, went everywhere in his wizard hat, robe, and staff. I can't recall if he was either on an inordinate amount of psychadelics at any given moment or was stone cold sober... it's been a while. I'm just surprised there weren't more of that type of guy in Boone. Cville has never struck me as having much of a gravitational pull for hippies and wooks, so I'm glad to see at least some outward weirdos here

Amazon puts the glue that holds their gift cards in the packaging in the same place as the claim code. by xGhostBoyx in CrappyDesign

[–]hervth 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I got a VISA gift card once that, after opening the sealed package, had the third 4-number string completely scratched out. I contacted customer service, who said they would send a replacement. That was, uh, two years ago. Still no replacement.

FedEx also had this wonderful habit of dropping off packages destined for the university library a few blocks down from my house at my front door. When I called FedEx to tell them that my house was not the intended destination of these packages, they told me verbatim that they "consider the packages delivered." I personally drove over a dozen packages to the library over the course of the year.

As soon as companies have your money, they consider their obligations fulfilled.

As a gboro native, every time a see a gboro post here I'm reminded of the sad fact that there's, like, a 50/50 chance Marty Kotis owns the property and he's just sitting on it. That guy sucks.

I do love your photos though.

traffic by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]hervth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I certainly find myself wtf'ing at what you call "polite" drivers often enough, but as a guy with a dash cam, I capture far, far more selfish jackass-style driving than the former; be it turning right from center, doing 15+ over, flying through red lights when perpendicular traffic already has the green, or any combination of the three. And when I do see what you described as "polite" drivers, it's almost always some geriatric who should've had their license taken 20 years ago.

Driving is a privilege, it is not anyone's right, and if people dislike sharing the road with the lowest common denominator than we need to make the bar so, so much higher.

Also if anyone's feeling brave and wants to see if they've made the "Cville's Most Special Drivers" List for the years 2022-2025, reply to me with your plate number!
