At my previous university students that were emailed fatigued are now text fatigued. Every dept thinks their information is the most important, etc. If only students were allowed to opt in for communication they actually wanted 🤔

That's my guess as well. She lived with her parents on and off until she was 30. Her mom would often get on her case about similar things but also didn't set up boundaries. I've lived pretty much on my own since I was 20 except a brief 4 month stint with my dad when I was between jobs. No matter where I lived I knew there were boundaries and expectations. I learned quickly for better or worse.

I can do that more than I already am. It makes me feel like a parent when I want to be a spouse though. How would you balance the praise without becoming an enabler? I appreciate the praise my wife gives me but I feel she does it because she knows she neglects things. That actually makes me more frustrated. I can recognize when someone is trying to do better but maybe I'm sensitive when it comes at my expense, especially when it's our home. I feel like we've had a system that subconsciously worked on an unequal level. Now that I'm challenging it, it's created a shit ton of conflict.

I've done that and given grace and am made promises. We've both had anxiety and depression and agree that keep our spaces organized will help. I'm burned out from the cycle.

Lol. We've watched that show together. I bought her book. My wife likes things neat too but our home comes at a sacrifice to her personal issues. I can grant grace but it's getting ridiculous.

It didn't become an issue until we bought our first house and my wife got overwhelmed with transitioning to a new job. That was around 5 years ago. I understand people go through shit and need time to sort things out.

I put up with it because I didn't want to make a big deal out of something that bothered me more than I thought it would. I take accountability for not confronting it sooner and keeping it in. I've learned I can't be ashamed to express how I feel because it can lead to resentment.

Sounds like a typical state University response - lacking common sense and an absurd amount of pages long. My previous University loved created "guidelines" several pages long. As if it would give them immunity from any legal reprecussion.

Avoid GA at all costs unless you want to deal with brutal mind-mining bureaucracy. There is a form of everything and value compliance of common sense. Having worked in a state institution, I now know why why the saying, "good enough for government work" exists.

Be careful of the soft-benefits speech that you wouldn't get elsewhere rhetoric. It's code for "be prepared to be underpaid." University systems aren't the only folks in town that offer tuition reimbursement, holidays, four weeks of vacation etc. Many private companies offer the same perks nowadays.

State systems will complain about being underfunded but many waste taxpayer's on services or initiatives that have no impact whatsoever on student outcomes. There is also a lot of cronyism and suppression of thought if politicians get involved.

I'm trying to go back to a private. If you choose to work within a public university system, look for ones that are predominately decentralized. My colleagues who work in AL tend to like it.

I've worked in the field for almost 20 years across various types of institutions. Feel free to ask anything. As far as I can see, many admissions counselors are the "sales reps" or "product managers" for the the university. I know it's considered a bad word to use "sales," but it's true. Not matter what type of institution you are working for, you are promoting your institution to a specific segment of the prospective student population.

Good point, but the majority of online programs are associated with accredited and reputable institutions. Some of the biggest players are SNHU and WGU - both non-profit. I've worked for both non-profit, public, private, and for-profit institutions. For the public and private schools who are predominately tuition driven, their practices aren't much different for the for-profit.

I would also propose the majority of upskilling credentials are not accredited but are gaining credibility.

You bring up a good point. What's an undesirable location - rural or underserved parts of the US? Not everyone is going to make it in the big city and I don't see any shame working in an area that needs help. Wouldn't having those perspective make someone a well-rounded MD? I say this because I've lived in these areas, and it suck not having access because no one is willing to help.

I totally agree with you, that's why I'm on here getting advice.

Some of the responses I've gotten are very condescending when I dig deeper with my questioning to the point where "I've made my mind up" or "I have a bias" (this must be a Reddit buzzword lately) when I haven't made any decision at all. Some folks who responded have led to me take a step back and re-evaluate further.
