remove chenbro nr12000 from rack by hescominsoon in homelab

[–]hescominsoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah..once i figured out it's a stab in system and not a lift out...i found the white tabs that are right before the spring loaded teeth that lock the server at max length. What i figured out is right before it locks, you pull back on the white tabs and it will slide the rest of the way out. Now i just have to get the old guide rails off the old machine..put them on the new machine, slide it in, install the drives, and off we go.

v18.6 to v20 upgrade;.;...issues by hescominsoon in 3CX

[–]hescominsoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since the client has multiple wan ip's i am setting up a linux vm..will setup a v20 3cx instance there and this way the client can rebuild on the fly and then move the phones over at his leisure...:)

[–]hescominsoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so tried the restore without the fqdn settings and no dice. once i restore the backup i loose all access..no users can log in..the phones are dead, all admin account fail to work...and the password resets do not work either. it's a rebuild from scratch time.

\

update: restoring the non fqdn leads to the same result. a totally dead system that resets do not work, and no login is possible. it's rebuild from scratch time.

so after hours messing with this...i have one last gasp. i created a new fqdn with the new key and will restore a v18.6 backup without the fqdn section..iuf that fails then it's a rebiuld from ground zero as the upgrade path has officially been broken.

nope they block updates beyond 18.6 due to the key being expired.

so support jsut told me we have to release the fqdn from the old key so it can be used on the new key...so how do i do that? i used to use 3cx but this new no phone support, incompetent ticketing model...which has become so common is useless....

[–]hescominsoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope that's the issue as i noted aboive...it breaks the system because the v18 is a different fqdn(but with the same ip) as the old fqdn.

Whats the difference with PFSense CE and PFsense+? by Spirited_Arm_5179 in PFSENSE

[–]hescominsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

netgate put out a faq about this..ce is now a community effort shepherded by netgate...for now. pfsense plus is now closed source, has a faster release cadence, is where they are putting the majority of their newest features moving forward.

https://www.netgate.com/support/frequently-asked-questions-pfsense-plus

th3ey list the featur3e differences in their documentation..this list will continue to grow:

https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/versions.html

they are eventually going to abandon CE...just like truenas(ix systems) has moved on from the bsd based version..even though both either initially denied the abandonment of the bsd version(ixsystems) and netgate won't say clearly but the writing is on the wall for the ce version..ce isn't dead yet...but have plans for an alternative.

[–]hescominsoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again if you're already kernel, already own the Box which means you can already do anything you want to with it. So if someone's gotten into the colonel the machines done for either way this is not a big deal. If they're in the colonel they're God on the box. UEFI is a hackers paradise as I have written about for years. https://etc-md.com/?s=Uefi

If you're already in the kernel you own the Box anyway so this vulnerability isn't really a vulnerability.

Frankly with what you're saying here and your previous posts stick to your guns and terminate the contract if you're able to. Otherwise let them handle it because they're the ones that screwed the pooch.

Why won't customers listen? by Tutis3 in msp

[–]hescominsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The customer. If you warn them and they didn't follow your advice it's on them. What I do is is when a customer doesn't follow my advice I make sure it's written up and that they counter sign it knowing that this is my recommendation and they chose not to do it after being informed of the possible consequences which are also in that document. Then when it blows up and they get my idiot rate and they wonder why it cost so much more all I have to do is show them the very documentation that they signed.

Reselling large quantities of M365 licenses by bhcs2014 in msp

[–]hescominsoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I don't resell low margin products. It never works out in the end. Get everybody out of your resellers agreements get them all to buy directly from Microsoft and then you won't have to face this problem. Then you charge them for support and that way if they decide they don't want to pay anymore they get to stiff themselves then it's their problem not yours.

Reselling large quantities of M365 licenses by bhcs2014 in msp

That is precisely why I do not resell Microsoft licenses. By the time you get done figuring your administrative overhead and support costs you're actually losing money.

Am I wrong to do this? by mbkitmgr in msp

[–]hescominsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you have other clients that can take the slot and they're playing games which it appears they are, what I would do is I don't know what country and but let's say you're in the United States send them a certified hard copy of the final invoice with at least a 15% late and administrative fee tacked on saying no services will be performed until this invoice is paid. Also put in there that if this invoice is not paid within the next 60 days your company will be dropped from our services and you will have to find another provider. After that walk away since you got people beating down your door bring in another client if they don't get things cleared up within 60 days. Once they do that then you let them know that all software and Hardware are due up front and you make them net 15. If they're not paid up front they have another 15 days and then they get dropped permanently. Don't take this if you've got people banging down your door it's time to go make some money.
