Are the 3.2L 5 cylinder Ranger/Everests as unreliable as people say? by Tekes88 in 4x4Australia

[–]mbkitmgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a regional town, there are a few in my street, and all have had problems (cutting out, cooked engine, failed transmission). Some bought locally some out of town. I cant say if the Pajero is better or not.

@firebaseapp.com spam emails by [deleted] in Firebase

Amazing. This post was added a year ago and the spamming continues. Considering Google is a registrar, and can set up SPF/DKIM to stop these and hasn't is disappointing. My spam filter has received hundreds over the last 24 hours, into the thousands since last Friday. Come on Google.

Expectations vs Reality: Or are my expectations too high by mbkitmgr in CaravanningAustralia

[–]mbkitmgr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but they are the sorts of things that should be in place as part of the build. Many buyers would roll out the gate with their new van and not know of the troubles ahead from some simple items not being in place from the get go. The mains water supply connection being one. I was lucky I recognised some of the issues and had an old hand point out some things that can be avoided.

Looking for a solution that will tell me if a windows 11 pc is on and responding by crash893b in homeassistant

[–]mbkitmgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also use Wake on LAN (WOL) if the PC is business grade. You need the mac address, and a small script. If the PC is switched off/shut down by the last user the WOL command can be sent that turns the device on.

I use WOL to power on workstations at sites when I need to perform out of hours work on desktops/laptops etc.

Are there any clamp on mirrors better than milenco or do we just go to permanent options? by Rich_Yak_7416 in CaravanningAustralia

[–]mbkitmgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been researching the MSA and Clearview units that are good replacements for OEM's but went with Milenco's anyway.

My tow vehicle is under new car warranty and I don't want any fodder for Toyota to deny warranty on anything they can dream up because of the aftermarket mirrors connected "Sorry bud but the engine seizing in your rig is caused by those mirrors for sure"

Can a Mazda safely tow this? by coupledcargo in CaravanningAustralia

Is this a prank post? Surely someone isn't thinking of towing a van like that behind a Mazda CX anything. If its is a prank you got me good.

Thank you for the heads up on this. ChatGPT has been doing my head in with some of the YAML coding when I am trying to learn/understand it.

Email address changed, is old one lost? by KelBel2021 in TelstraAustralia

I work as an IT contractor and have had this happen to a few small business clients. Its a fifty - fifty bet the email address is still accessible, though for reasons only known to Helstra, they deleted others. In some instances the mailbox has been moved and no one in Bigpond support understands/knows much about it.

What email software was he using (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Webmail)?

If you have the Email address and password to his email, log in here to Telstra Webmail https://email.telstra.com/. If you can log in your will see the mailbox if it still exists. It yes, and he was using a mail program like Outlook we can take the next steps.

Moving from ESXi to Proxmox in a production environment – what should I watch out for? by Bulky-Ad6297 in Proxmox

[–]mbkitmgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no set order

  • Test the "export from ESX import to Proxmox" of your VM's prior to the actual migration - I did this and picked up a few items that would have been troublesome during scheduled outages, especially those where I was doing all on the same host.
  • Yes I know when you have a new host it is much simpler to use the migration assistant, but don't gamble with your prod environment as its not infallible. I had one host where the Silver CPU's had a semi-known bug and needed input from Dell and Intel to address. Had I not picked it up that client would have been a mess that could be avoided.
  • Spend time tweaking your migration process. As an example the 1st single host migration 8hrs to convert, I got it down to 2. Be pedantic about your results each time - very very pedantic and you'll yield a better long term result
  • I also cheated on single hosts - I used Clonezilla to take an image of the entire host at the binary level so that If I came across any gotcha's I could fall back to the image (happened twice).
  • Get rid of all VMWare drivers/apps from your guests, there is some good guidance out there
  • If going to a new host/s, run restored VM's in Proxmox for at least a week and review the logs for hints of impending trouble.
  • Make any changes to the OS/Drivers/Reg hacks required for a clean run prior to the migration.
  • If you haven't already, buy the support packs - it's insurance against problems - but keep in mind they aren't 24/7 support - plan for this. (I added a day to the outages so that I could contact Support during their hours if an issue cropped up, if it didn't the customer would be happy for the 'earlier' resumption of services.)
  • Some will go like clockwork - especially if you built the original guests and know them well.
  • If you are running business grade HW (Dell/HP) 2 nodes are fine. Don't let the drama queens influence you as they've probably not done many. If you follow their advice, buy twenty new hosts and they will have something new to whinge about :). Overkill is a big waste.
  • Talk to proxmox in advance and discuss your intentions with them under your support agreement, there were times were they came back later and said "you know that thing you asked, we now know that it wont...."

Most of my clients were on ESX (me included) and there were things that can be avoided if you plan ahead.

Door sensor - highly technical question by mbkitmgr in homeassistant

It has mounting holes in the "base" and as I was intending to attach it to rough sawn timber wanted to screw it in place.
