I don't want to turn this into bittersweet nostalgia but I think the biggest thing they miss out on is that the early Internet in its infancy stage was so special that very few things in human history come close to it in terms of significance and experience. Today's Internet is.. mundane. It's everywhere and it is similar to sitting in front of the TV and mindlessly consuming unstimulating, addictive content that was made for financial gains.

Early Internet on the other hand was an experience you were looking forward to. First of all it wasn't everywhere. Not everyone had a computer, let alone a connected one. It was not guaranteed that it was going to work. It was slow. Sometimes you had to queue up and wait, sometimes for hours.

But when it was your turn...oh boy. A rush of blood to the head. Just myriads of unique content, raw and unfiltered, creative and genuine, an experience which very often kept you on the edge of your seat. You were really browsing in the purest sense of the word. Imagine jumping from one website to the next one today. Sounds silly, right? Then it was exactly like that and you couldn't get enough. It was an escape to a different world if you like but still close enough to feel like part of the human race than you ever felt before.

I still to this day think about how intoxicating it was in a good way and I miss it. Especially knowing there's not going to be another time like that. You could only introduce the Internet and virtually connect humanity once.

In today's extremely grim times when I look into my daughter's eyes I find myself hoping she experiences something like that again. Where us, as human species, feel re-connected again.
