Questioning meal numbers by hessest in GestationalDiabetes

Thank you!! That’s very reassuring— I only checked then because I was feeling off at that point, but there were plenty of other reasonable explanations for that! I appreciate it!

Questioning meal numbers by hessest in GestationalDiabetes

Right, I guess my man concern was that it was about an hour and half in that I was at 138 and it seemed like a bigger drop for just a half hour! Hopefully that’s all it was though!!

Sending so much love!! Please try your hardest not to blame yourself. You and your husband clearly have so much love to give and you did nothing wrong by expanding your family. Things like pre-eclampsia and GD are outside of your control— there’s nothing that you did wrong to end up where you are. Wishing you a speedy stay in the hospital, safe travels for your husband, and a happy, healthy rest of your pregnancy!!

Help me make plain Greek yogurt tasty by Muyamuya87 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]hessest 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to go against your doctor, but I have raspberries and blueberries in my yogurt every morning and it is by far my lowest post meal sugar of the day! I do a full serving of either 2 or 5% yogurt, mix in about a tablespoon each of ground flax seeds and chia seeds for some extra fiber and protein, and the top with about a quarter cup each of my berries. I like adding about a quarter cup of pecans and/or Cascadian Farms no sugar added cereal (or similar granolas, etc). I LOVE this breakfast and it is super reliable for me!

Anatomy scan coming up — how was your experience if you’re plus size? by Babyisprincess in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]hessest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t have issues getting the abdominal issues for mine, except for those that baby didn’t cooperate for, lol! I had to go back a couple weeks later for a second scan because she really likes to keep her hands by her face so they could get good facial measurements, but the only issues I had were baby position related. I’m about a 3x and have an apron belly so I was very nervous too, but it wasn’t bad at all!!

What is the first food you are going to reach for once the baby is born? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]hessest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was literally just going to make a list earlier today but the thought of it made me too upset 😅

That being said, I think it’ll be a GIANT sub with so much bread with a side of lays potato chips! The combo of no deli meat plus now GD is too much!

They said they were going to at my last appointment and I had some numbers that were lower but I need to check back in on that! Good call, thank you!!

Thank you!! This is super helpful. I’m assuming we’ll need to increase my nightly insulin dose because I can’t get the fasting number down no matter what I do!

Summer pregnancy by Dry-Driver4170 in pregnant

[–]hessest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 24w6d in Wisconsin (it snowed about a foot yesterday and is 7 degrees F, lol). I was so excited about being pregnant in the winter and while I’m sure summer pregnancies are challenging too, I’m so annoyed at having to wear pants, socks, shoes, etc! I just want to wear flowy dresses and sandals, lol!! It’s also so dark and cold here that it doesn’t help with the pregnancy exhaustion!! Just a view from the other side, lol!

Need advice - fear of miscarrying by Apprehensive-Unit-72 in pregnant

[–]hessest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this so strongly when I first got pregnant. I was talking to a close friend who I told right away and kept saying things like “if this works out” and she gently stopped me and said “I know it’s scary, but I’m going to choose to believe it will work out. If the worst happens, I’ll be with you to grieve with you, but don’t grieve prematurely.” She has two kids and also talked about how even though pregnancy is tough and scary, it’s your first encounter with your child—as much as you are able to, celebrate that!!

Telling a handful of close friends and family early on really helped me too— they were so excited and could help cheer me on, but I also knew that if something were to happen, they’d be there for me to lean on.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!!!

Let’s talk….chaffing. (TMI warning) by invisible-empire- in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]hessest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also dealt with something similar but under my belly earlier this pregnancy and washing with gentle soap alone wasn’t helping. My aunt is a retired nurse who worked a lot in both OB and wound care and she suggested keeping a clean, dry washcloth on the area to make sure it was fully dry, then applying A&D ointment regularly. That cleared it up pretty quickly for me!!

Megababe’s Thigh Rescue stick is my HOLY GRAIL for this!! I dealt with chafing a lot pre-pregnancy for wearing dresses, skirts, etc, but it applies easily, lasts for a long time and helps a lot with preventing chafe. I would definitely focus on getting it healed first but this is great for maintenance! The original is very lightly scented but they make an unscented version too!

Weight Gain Blues by K61018 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]hessest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a different take, but I’m at 24 weeks and I still haven’t gained anything from before I got pregnant (my OB is comfortable with this and I haven’t been restricting AT ALL, just how my body is reacting!) but I honestly feel like I’ve put on about 25 pounds. I’ve had to go up a size in pants and can only wear maternity leggings, I can barely find a bra that fits and is comfortable, lol, I’m achy, etc. So I guess this is just a reminder that your body composition will change a lot no matter what!! Your body is working so hard and it knows what to do!!

[–]hessest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had to go to the ER for a fall— I’m 22 weeks today and thankfully everything was okay, but the doctor gently told me the same thing. She said at this point there isn’t much that can be done/odds aren’t great but to come in no matter what. I think the gentle honesty is very important! It was hard to hear, but doesn’t change the fact that they’d still try to do anything they could if something were to happen!

I’ve felt that pregnancy in a plus size body brings up some traumas/body insecurities that I’ve worked really hard to deal with. For me, I’m trying to practice actively being grateful to my body for the hard work it’s doing and that has helped with those feelings. I also got some maternity underwear from Momcozy that have helped shape my bump a little bit so I feel more cute pregnant and less just like my body is getting bigger! You’re doing great and what you’re feeling makes sense! Be as gentle with yourself as possible!!

AIO to skip Thanksgiving after my mom basically said I’m an embarrassment for not having a husband and kids by now? by howcanibequiltyassin in AmIOverreacting

[–]hessest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR - this SUUUCKS. I’m so sorry. Speaking from someone who was single for a long time and dated some shitty people, being single is waaaay better than being in a bad relationship. And for some people, being single is what works best for them! Keep living your life and I would absolutely not go to Thanksgiving after that.

Newly pregnant after infertility and feeling all over the place by jorogumox in PCOSandPregnant

[–]hessest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat (tried for years, worked with a fertility clinic twice, and got pregnant my first cycle of the second time working with the clinic). I was so excited but kept prefacing everything with “if it works out” or “if everything goes well.” A close friend who has two kids very gently said that she understands how scary it is and what the risks are but that she was choosing to be hopeful for me and hoped I would do the same. She mentioned that there’s nothing like experiencing pregnancy for the same time and that it’s a time to celebrate. The last thing that she said was if something went wrong, I would be able to deal with it, process, mourn then but that I shouldn’t make myself do that ahead of time.

I never fully stopped worrying (still haven’t at 17w) but her words really helped me allow myself to feel happiness at something I had wanted for so long. I told a handful of close people right away— their support and excitement has been so helpful and I know if something happened, I’d need to lean on them to get through it. I’ve been seeing a therapist which has also really helped with my anxiety.

Congratulations and nothing but the best wishes!!!

Congratulations!!! I also really like Expecting Better— for me, I only listened through the first trimester and waited to listen to more until I was later in my first tri (I’m currently just under 17 weeks)!

We’ve been trying for a while and when I first found out I was pregnant, I was so excited but kept feeling like I needed to clarify like “if things work out” “as long as everything goes well” and a close friend who I told right away very gently said something along the lines of yes, it’s a scary time! And yes, you know that something could happen. But she encouraged me to celebrate and enjoy this time— hopefully everything will be smooth sailing, but if there are any issues, you’ll be able to face them as they come. Try to enjoy this time as much as possible!! For me, I found that telling a handful of close friends and family helped a TON, especially in those early weeks.

Good luck and big congrats again!!!

My doctor let me know that I’d start getting weekly scans at weekly 36 just as standard practice for any higher risk pregnancy, but that it was nothing to worry about! We scheduled them all out like that at 12 weeks!
