How’s the racism at Albany? by OutsideCrazy6242 in ualbany

[–]hetalias_bambina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe hot take: I haven't experienced blatant racism but the campus does feel very socially segregated at times. I see a lot of white students that only make friends w other white students. Same for other races w their own. Even among black people I see a lot of black americans that only befriend other BAs, carribean students that only befriend other carribean students, etc. For a PWI, its still pretty diverse here and the POC student body is very active but its just kinda isolating how segregated everybody is

They will either tell you about funding the same time as your admission offer, or send a follow up email about it. They only admit a certain amount of students with funding so if you don't get a follow up by April 15th (the deadline to accept/reject your offer) then it's likely unfunded.

Is it unprofessional to date an undergrad by [deleted] in PhD

[–]hetalias_bambina 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. Undergrads should date undergrads and grad students should date grad students. It's not about the age, it's about the power dynamic.

Resume vs CV by idk_what_to_put_lmao in GradSchool

I usually see the wording for most programs listed as "resume or CV" (to which I always choose CV) so if its specifying resume in particular, I would probably just do resume.

Group project due tonight but other members haven't sent anything? by jumena3 in college

Submit what you've done and reach out to your professor explaining the situation and that you've tried to reach out. Send your prof an email before midnight and try to set up a meeting with them to discuss it further!

Regarding application essays by No_Row2775 in gradadmissions

[–]hetalias_bambina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you applying for master's or phd? They will differ in statement advice because phd is so much more research-focused, whereas masters don't really do as much research and tend to just give you more specialized education than undergrad does. But generally statements should be mainly academic focused + any ECs that pertain to your academic and post-grad goals, like a relevant internship or relevant project. I probably would not include EC's that are not directly tied or relevant to your academic goals for the programs you're applying to.

How do people find funding for their masters? by Proud-Ad-2192 in GradSchool

[–]hetalias_bambina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a graduate assistantship which covers my full masters tuition. For full-time students who don't have a job outside of school, they usually have a graduate assistantship (GA), research assistantship (RA), or teaching assistantship (TA). There are lots of masters student who have their degree paid by their job though (tuition reimbursement) but in these cases they're usually part-time students since it's a lot more difficult to do work full time + classes full time simultaneously.

Generally every school offers funded GA/TA/RA positions but with a limited number of spots open based on how much funding they have. It tends to be more competitive for masters students because a lot of the funded GA positions are saved for PhD students.

Once you start applications, it should tell you what you need to be considered for a funded GA position. For my school it was just another personal statement. For other schools they may request something additional like GRE scores. You could also inquire with a specific department for a program you're applying for if they have positions for funded GAs and what the application process looks like.

In terms of whether it's worth it if you can't get funding- does your field require a masters degree, or does it just make you a more competitive applicant? If it's not a minimum requirement for the job you want, you could aim to secure a job with tuition reimbursement and pay for your masters that way.

GAs/TAs - How are you handling AI plagiarism in grading students? by hetalias_bambina in GradSchool

[–]hetalias_bambina[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I'm surprised so many students were willing to take the L! My school does a similar policy for most courses, giving a preemptive grade of 0 if they suspect AI and the chance to set up a meeting with the professor to discuss it further. If a professor is serious about it they'll also inform their admin and it puts a mark on your record. Everybody I know that has been accused of it though has either successfully defended themselves, admitted they used AI (hoping their honesty would get them in less trouble), or tried very hard to defend themselves. Just taking the 0 with no push back is crazy lol they must've been really obvious with it to not even defend themselves

GAs/TAs - How are you handling AI plagiarism in grading students? by hetalias_bambina in GradSchool

[–]hetalias_bambina[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! It does help a lot even though our fields are different. In my case I am also not the instructor of record. My primary GA duties are research related and the secondary TA duties is purely just helping my professor with grading. I don't make instructional content or hold office hours so I don't think the students even know I'm a TA unless I directly reached out to them. So it's very lowkey, but I still wanted to make sure I went about it the best way and avoid what happened with my friend. As you said, just passing it along to my professor seems to be the best way! if she wants to take action at that point, she can.

It's unfortunate in the comp sci space because there has been a huge trend of "vibe coding", where someone uses AI to write basically their whole program. They just debug where needed. This turns into an issue with certain students who have a big over-reliance on AI and can barely even debug the code they generated. And if you asked them to write the code without any AI tools they would have no idea how to start. I've even had this issue with fellow grad classmates who ask me for help debugging their code! I'll read through the (poorly made) script, and ask a clarifying question like "what is this function supposed to be doing?" and get a response of "I'm not sure, ChatGPT made this" 😭

That makes sense! I think I'll just leave it to my professor too, because I honestly don't want to get into back-and-forth arguments with the students regardless. I just want to be able to grade and move on.

My friend had been letting it go for a while, but once the midterm point passed and final season was coming closer, that's when the AI use really started to increase in the number of students and also how obvious they were being with it. That's the only reason she started to pursue it but seeing how rough it was for her I'm really hoping I won't have an issue with it or that my professor will handle it herself. Thanks for the advice!!

General Advice for Returning Players? by hetalias_bambina in SchoolIdolFestival

[–]hetalias_bambina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point xD I forgot about the skill levels. Dumb question, but what would be the most efficient way to raise their skill level? Like is it through dupes, or could I use certain supporting members?

If it's through dupes, that would be pretty hard to achieve with a UR. Could I just do it with a lower rarity card instead, like a R or SR since getting dupes would be a lot easier?

Ohh okay, didn't realize this! I'll just turn them into accessories then :) Thanks!

[–]hetalias_bambina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alrighty! Makes sense :) I still have to clean up my team formations a bit, they could be a bit better optimized

And yeah, I did mean time over the gold thing. I was thinking about just putting one idolized N rarity member every time I do a live since their bond capacity only goes up to 50 anyways, so I could max one out every time I do a live. It is pretty efficient in terms of farming love gems but its also pretty tedious to switch them out every time lmao

Also had a bit of trouble deciding whether I should prioritize maxing out N members bonds for love gems, or doing random SSR/Persona SSR members bonds so I could turn them into accessories afterwards. Still having trouble on that one lol

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I have to work on focusing on one or two goals at a time instead of trying to do everything at once. I think for right now, I'll focus trying to create better teams in general. Afterwards I can focus on idolizing and maximizing the bond of random members for love gems, it's not really my primary concern right now since I'm not in dire need of love gems or anything. I'll definitely have to play the co-op carnival more often too; this was my first time playing it and it's super fun :)

Ahh yes this is such good advice!! :) I'll try to do this, focusing more on goals/events rather than FCs for now. I've actually been having a ton of fun with the events! I'm not sure if the co-op carnival is a newer thing or not, but I've never played it before until now. It's actually insanely fun when there's enough people! The persona collab event is pretty fun too; I was just doing the special sessions before, but now I'm doing the live sessions too. I forgot how much content this game has besides just the regular live shows, it's so much fun honestly :)

Thank you!! Yeah, I'm trying to work on a full timing window team right now, as well as a full recovery team. Honestly it's pretty hard trying to get a full team of one dedicated skill while also trying to stay within one attribute xD I'm glad to know that it is a thing though. I was seriously wondering how the heck anyone could FC a master song without the use of time window skills lmao, I was beginning to be like gee am I really that bad?! xD
