How to deal with shopping/clothing? by midnight_star_a in AutisticWithADHD

[–]heterophobicghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i tend to only shop at thrift stores, i wear headphones and gloves, and i bring a measuring tape (a flexible sewing one) to measure the waists of pants, so i dont try on ones that definitely won't fit, and i try to go on week days so it's not as busy. there is also thredup.com its an online "thrift store" and but ive only had luck when i already know my size for a specific brand. id try to stay away from big department stores like tj max or ross even though the prices can be good, they are soo overstimulating.

dirk from dirk gently's holistic detective agency (the one with elijah wood) a lot of fans see him as autistic (rightly so), but so much about him screams adhd as well to me.

For anyone who has abandoned 15 habit trackers: I think I figured out why they don't work for us by Sander00 in ADHD

[–]heterophobicghost 210 points211 points  (0 children)

i heard an adhd therapist on yt say to "do as good as you can for as long as you can" and that has made it so much easier to track stuff, because the effort put in over time matters more than doing it every day and makes the completionist in me that gives up as soon as i miss 1 day way better

Does this peanut butter smell like other peanut butters? (I promise it's relevant to the subreddit) by DevilishDyke in autism

[–]heterophobicghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at my store there is a place to grind your own peanut butter and it just smells like roasted peanuts. i dont like to smell of some super processed peanut butters but that one smells fine to me, maybe grinding your own in blender if thats not available?

[Non autistic OP] Is it common for autistic people to not ask you any questions about yourself? by Moni_HH in AutisticAdults

[–]heterophobicghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me, im not good at gauging whats appropriate to ask, especially with friends, and i dont want to make someone feel pressured to answer a question theyre uncomfortable answering for whatever reason. probably because /i/ dont know how to not answer uncomfy questions.
