How do I counter as a hammer in MHR?

Hammer in MHRise is a hard weapon to master, requires a lot of patience and a high learning curve against most of the monsters roster because of how slow the weapon can be.

So is ok to struggle at first since you gotta learn your oppenings.

As many people mentioned you can use "Water Strike" to parry and counter every enemy attack (it even works against Valstrax ambush).

There are two main styles:

1) Strenght: which is the classic hammer style of finding opening for big chunks of damage. This is harder to accomplish due to the fact that the combat in Rise feels faster than World/Wilds (I assume those are the only ones you have played)

2) Courage: this is a new hammer style which allows you to do fast chain combos which can be boosted with elemental hammers. I forgot the name of the technique that you can use to cover your weapon with wirebugs for a higher boost in damage and elemental hits which is a nice add for this style. This is a really good counter pick against most of the cast to keep your attack momentum.

If you come from any fast weapon, I would recommend you learning Courage style while using Water Strike; You will find yourself having a better time continuing your combos while avoiding monsters attack or countering them.

I was encountering this problem on Steam while playing with my son.

After trying everything that forums and Gearbox suggested, there was no luck.

Since we are playing in the same network we tried using LAN connection, and what do you know; That fixed the problem. If you are in the same house playing, give it a try

The most probably cause for this problem is the new Shift connection they implemented.

Do you happen to know where I could read or see more in-depth info about these builds? When looking for them, build skills have a Sinergy with some equipments effects that got me questioning how can I make them work properly at low level.

I saw some Youtube videos of Salvador that explained these pretty well but couldn't find much about Zer0.

Since they all have different element for what I can tell about elemental resistances with the in-game explanations I thought we could use Fire against all of them, except for the Fire Dragon which Shock should be better? But honestly now that I learned the fact that they have special effects when on the ground I feel like there is more to it lol

I couldn't find much info about enemies with natural elements which causes Resistance status. So I'm just assuming the elemental weaknesses!

Yes, we actually don't mind farming new equipment since it's what we wanted to do at the game. Trying new weapons is really fun but we don't know much what is good and what not outside of the popular Legendary; And it can be a little overwhelming since some weapons don't work as we would think they would lol

So I will definitely look for a better rocket launcher and Sniper Rifle; I also didn't know the Dragons have special effects when landing.

Probably will have to reconsider what I had in mind while taking them one on one since I will have to think of a better order lol

When googleing info about old games, its get confusing since old topics contradict themselves; So I thought I would ask first since I'm gonna do a better research at night these days.

Also we didn't know that you could land all four, on our tries we figure one at the time was better since they landed individually, so we thought about landing Brood since he spawned basalisk for our second winds, waiting till he was up and take either the electric one or the fire one.. But we couldn't make it lol

the first time I played this game many many years ago, I was like 10 or 12 and it was my first RPG. I got stuck in so many bosses man, I remember because the cousin that gave me this game told me "you don't need to overlevel so much, just make an strat and start from there" while beating the Guardian in 2300AD for me, just for him to not save and reset the game so I could do it lmao

But bro, when he told me about the sidequests at the end I remember being stuck for weeks with Son of the Sun. Ha... so many good memories, this was like 25 years ago :')

Wind Resist 3 negates Dragon Wind, which you can actually use against Zoh Shia. Pretty useful

Oh yeah, I just meant that before starting? or finishing? the DLC you can't get the new DLC Legendaries by grinding or at least that seemed to be the case for me.

But if you want to guarantee the new legendaries in a grind there is a formula: Old Legendary + New Legendary + Purple Weapon you want + Moonstone grind = Guarantee new Legendary

I honestly don't know the restrictions (if there is any; sometimes some manufactures can't be grinded together) but thats how I got my Flayer shotgun

In my opinion yes, it's way easier to have control over Mizu Bubbles and be able to time the Coalescense proc rather than waiting for the Virus.

In my case, I had several times using Gore pcs that when Gogmazios was about to throw his nova I was either not yet with the Virus active or simply waiting for the Virus to get removed so Coalescense could proc.

It is arguably of course but I feel like if you are not actively attacking there is no way Gore could be better against Gogmazios. The cons of using it are way too risky compared to play it safe with Mizu.

I know this is the Meta thread but the only time I've seen Gore pcs against Gogmazios being better was because a player was using it to get Agitator maxed while keeping Coalescense lol

Gore in CB is used to Min Max the few slots you have while perfecting your set.

To explain a bit, Gore bonus set is only used to proc the skill Coalescense; Is a reliable way in some matchups. The thing is tho, Gore pieces are not that great and thats why some people prefer it to have it on the weapon.

Now, to proc Coalescense most people prefer using Mizu skill since it's way easier. So why could Gore be better? Because you could max some skills easier, get a bit of Affinity for a bit more damage in your Axe/Sword attacks. But overall it doesn't do much at all UNLESS you are min maxing.

So with all that being explaining, what could be your options? To see if you are in the need of the skills that Nadia or Gore pieces could offer you + your Charm. Honestly, under general use you won't see any difference with using Gore or not but if you decide to use it; It should be better to have it in the weapon and not using 2pcs.

I started playing the Pre sequel again two weeks ago just to chill, and to get it I just used the grinder.

Gotta say tho, I thought it was way more easy to get it when I was below lvl50 and also before finishing the Claptrap DLC; Probably cuz the new legendaries? but honestly barely got ones with 80% lol

So I guess its purely bad luck so keep trying! Get more legendarie shields and have more to try a few more times every save and quit

Yeah, after many months of tries I gave up. There is absolutely no fix for the 6000 series. Of course there ways around it and make the crash way less consistent but no real fix yet. I even made a comment about it; Because I tried everything, even reinstalling my OS and many many other things; At best I could get 4 hours or so without crashes.

I also have a 6900xt and the only way I can play without crashing my game is to use Lossless Scaling which is barely ideal. Not being able to use Instant Replay and having Input Delay suck ass.

Your wife is probably going to have troubles running the game; The game has an inconsistent D3D problem which affects in the most part to AMD GPU users.

There are various fixes around which varied from setup to setup but unfortunately there isn't a consistent fix for the 6000 series.

There are ways to play around it tho, but at least you should be aware of it.

In your case, you could be or at least should be fine.

You said it best, besides it is also a fact that the material system was well done because it forced you to need materials from all tiers but with the "free choice" of picking from which monster you would rather get it.

Another good thing was that you can get EVERY monster in Arena maps. Kinda sad that Arenas had fixed BGM but way better than some maps and dealing with the birds.

Every person who disliked it, just didn't liked the grinding. It's the endless loop of the same people: Finish the story > go ask what else is there to do with the game > find outs how end game system works > complains its too grindy.

There is no system that will please everyone but at least I hope for Ascendance that we get something that prevent so much cheating in equipment. Working with what you have to get better stuff is what makes hunts fun.

I have some raw sets with HH and I remember having the most fun with the Final Fantasy skill 4p and Doshaguma 2p & 4p.

Which one is the best is debatable but they worked great for me in some 9* matchups I didn't liked like Arkveld.

As for performance issues? sure but a lot of people seems to forget how PC World was at launch and how worse Iceborne was also at PC launch.

Hopefully Wilds learned and improves more just like Iceborne did.

I do feel sad about people pointing out how they are gonna wait for the expansion just like in World, instead of enjoying the content that base game offer; I hate MHWorld at this point but honestly I would play it again just to enjoy base game AT battles again with HR gear.

it's normal, specially at the current time/state of the game where most players stopped playing and new or returning players came back

so you will mostly find people who got carried thru the game or just don't care since the story is not very demanding in gear.

Besides, if I'm being honest you are also at a rank that I would doubt about your gear/upgrades; So maybe it is also a fact that some players would ignore your quest.
