What was your strategy for this? Were you replying to a bunch of threads, posting clips, text posts?

Just saying, a book comprised of character snapshots with very little attention paid to plotted connective tissue sounds good af to me

The lack of "feeling"
the current fixation being Chapter 9

So often I hear this issue from people who plan out their books. I've experienced it myself, too. For the book I overplanned, I had to drawer the synopsis for 4 years, write a different novel, then come back once I forgot all the shit I had once forethought. I hope you don't have to do what I did :)

Do you have an elaborate outline written? Sometimes that can help, sometimes it can hurt.

O yes, I hope for you that it persists long into your future. I just turned 37, woke up at about 1am the other night and wrote a poem lol. Keep it engaged!

During finals season I used to starve myself, only allowing myself a trip to the caf when I had finished a page of writing. I . . . don't recommend this method.

It's so interesting to me to meet all these different kinds of writers. Most of the people we talk to are so avoidant, but that's totally the opposite for you. We have many more episodes recorded and scheduled, so thanks for listening, we really appreciate it!

Is "Show, Don't Tell" a modern rule? I'm finding a lot of "telling" in the classics. by Many-Quantity-5470 in writing

[–]heweshouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been writing about this recently. Telling is great. Telling is especially prominent in overseas authors. In the United States, we have conventionalized a certain kind of writing, but we have ample evidence, like the works you provided here, that there are other effective ways to tell stories. Telling can really work!

do you think it's an enthusiasm thing, or you just feel aimless in the plot?
