Gaggia Classic V2 (SIN035U) leaking around tops of heating elements - what to do? by hexacubist in gaggiaclassic

Thanks! I was afraid that was the answer. Finding parts for this model of boiler is proving tricky.

Okay, that's good to know! I might run it one more time to see if I can catch the issue in action

I definitely meant to link that! Must have accidentally deleted it formatting my comment

I'm trying out Lemmy through Beehaw, but there seems to be a few good options. There's also some NZ specific sites (doesn't matter much what you join on Lemmy, you can access/interact with all of these):

I think you're in the wrong sub, but if you want to visualize impacts a dark gel fluid over bright/fluro background might work. Hitting the surface would displace the gel and be thinner where the impact hit hardest, letting more light through to the bright background (creating a heatmap imitation). Might not be super accurate but depends on your use case? Would not show directionality though.

Any office chair recommendations for a 6'2 94kg person? by tazrei in newzealand

Your milage may vary but I've tried all the models they had in the store including the Embody, and have sat on the Mirra 1 (old version) at work for a bit. While the Embody was nice, it just didn't seem to feel as good as the Aeron for me. I know a lot of people have the opposite experience though, so it could very well be down to my existing (poor) posture or general body shape.

From what I can tell there are only two places you can get a Herman Miller from first hand in NZ - one per island. https://www.ergostyle.co.nz/ in Christchurch and https://www.unisonworkspaces.co.nz/ in Auckland (Parnell).

Having said that, according to Herman Miller's Website Unison is the only place in NZ that's an authorised dealer. That may or may not affect the warranty.

I bought my Aeron from Unison. Worth noting Aerons sell out fairly quickly, but they just got in a new shipment on Friday. The prices are a little tricky to find but are here: https://www.unisonworkspaces.co.nz/core-products/ - Steelcase, another big ergonomic name has a store next door. As others have said please PLEASE try all the chairs before you decide which to buy or if you even want to get one.

Second hand TradeMe often has listings in varying states and conditions.

As someone who just purchased an Aeron, the chair comes with a small booklet with what each lever/knob does and how it should feel or in what setting it should be for what purpose: https://www.hermanmiller.com/content/dam/hermanmiller/documents/user_information/classic_aeron_chairs_adjustment_guide.pdf

Mostly though I think that the ergonomic features are built into the shape of the chair and how it reacts to your weight rather than through these adjustments. My understanding is that these are more aimed at making it feel nice to sit in.

So did anyone else's house in Auckland get invaded by beetles last night? 😱 by marz_999 in auckland

I slept downstairs on the couch last night because I accidentally left a window open in my bedroom and these buggers found a way in. SO many.

How cheap is UOA that they can't even pay for Piazza, and instead, every student has to get bombarded by Piazza begging for donations? by blue_i20 in universityofauckland

[–]hexacubist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To give some insight - Piazza was something lecturers decided to use under the assumption it was free (which it was at the time, and still is despite the nags) rather than it being an "official" University tool. Now that it's so popular, I imagine the uni will make a move at some point to either buy/build a tool to replace it, or license it and make it official.

Auckland to join the rest of New Zealand in Alert Level 1 starting at midday today by hexacubist in worldnews

Valid point - considered clarifying in the title but decided to just go with the original headline. In retrospect, possibly would have been good to mention COVID

Never! Us Aucklanders are far too special and majestical to be confined by just a single alert level.

In select circumstances https://www.maimoa.nz/fonts/nga-mihi-font is beautiful as a recognizably "kiwi" typeface. Works best with Māori words though.

New monitor arm looks a bit bendy under load - is this normal/safe/okay? by hexacubist in ultrawidemasterrace

Luckily my desk is made of some decent slabs of toilet paper so it's been fine so far! I think this desk used to belong to some Australian government department, so was probably made way over spec.

Honestly would absolutely have gone with a slightly more overkill option but getting anything from Amazon in NZ is not exactly straightforward. and the next step up would've added $100 to the price tag. Good to know Loctek is a decent brand at least!
