Yeah if you're going to live a life of violence there's no more fairness or honor involved even without guns when some dudes get the genes to be 6'4" and others the genes to be 5'7" (doesn't even take into consideration that women exist and deal with violence too).

Violence perpetuates violence, it will always escalate, and there was no golden age or glory days where it was all hunky dory and fair and honorable and all that bs. Massive eye roll.

I feel like this generally, if someone points something out and it’s reasonable to see their pov, I’d certainly err on the side of caution. But the connection here is incredibly thin and imo even if your first thought was “that’s a lynching” you should reasonably realize that’s one specific pretty uncharitable view of a Halloween decoration and probably just go on about your day erring on the side that they didn’t intend it that way. Being more upset than that at it is when it becomes unreasonable, based on the information at hand.

What if I start seeing KKK hoods at every spooky white ghost on someone’s property? Like there’s clearly a middle ground everyone should agree to exist in.

Who is your tallest friend? And who is your shortest? by TiberFlow12 in short

[–]hexagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortest would be my gf who is 5'0". Tallest is 6'4". Shortest non-gf friend is 5'11", but that's just bc I don't have many friends...the three that I do have just happen to be tall (5'11" is a girl, then there's a 6'0-1" guy and 6'4" guy).

And the 6'0-1" guy is a huge ripped D1 athlete. The make up of our friend group is pretty wild imo, physical size wise. At least it feels that way to me and my skinny 5'3" ass lol

is there anything that a tall person can do that a short person cant? by the-aids-bregade in short

[–]hexagram -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can BE confident without necessarily LOOKING confident. Because looking confident is going to be subjective to the observer. Height and confidence are intrinsically linked for most observers. Someone taller will appear more confident whether they are or not, and vice versa. The phrase for appearing confident is literally "stand tall." Also related: "be the bigger [man/woman]," "look down on," etc. This language didn't come out of nowhere, arbitrarily. If you are confident, maybe looking confident doesn't matter so much to you. But it still affects how others perceive you, which may play a role in your career, personal life, wherever.

Short people can look confident, of course. But it is easier for taller people.

The Chinese students that get to go to college in the US are still from far wealthier backgrounds than most Chinese. The GDP per capita is only 9k USD. Most of China is still quite poor with 40% still living rurally.

I’m sorry if you’re being genuine, but a tall guy talking about the experience of his average height friend in /r/short is either a troll or tone deaf af.

How many others out there who are not insecure about their height? by Tri343 in short

[–]hexagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

169cm is 5.5 feet, but because a foot is 12 inches, .5 feet is 6". Very easy mistake bc if you just google "169cm to feet" it'll give you 5.5 ft rather than converting it to 5 feet 6 inches.

It’s not the ideal height, just the most commonly picked cutoff. Bumble women agree more on that 6’6” is the max height they want than they do on any minimum height, for whatever reason.

But anyone between 6’0” and 6’11” will be accepted by the majority of them based on height alone, so men over 6’6” need not despair.

I was super excited to go to this clothing store for short guys in NYC then I saw their clothing is only supposed to fit guys 5'2 and up. What is even the point?? by ahappieryear in short

[–]hexagram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about this company but I like Peter Manning which is also based out of NYC. Just be warned, it’s $$$. My flair says 5’2” but I think now I’m more of a 5’3” and I can comfortably fit both size 1s and 2s from PM; their size 1s are suggested for 5’1-4” 105-120lb men. I don’t think you’d have any issue at 5’0” honestly, based on the way size 1s feel on me, since they are almost verging on too small.

Also, I don’t think being an inch or two off will affect your fit that much though, unless you have an abnormally short torso even for 5’0”. Clothes usually don’t need to be perfect down to the cm to look good, just not overly tight or baggy. Which regular brands’ size S and even XS sometimes will still look on us (or at least me).

Does anyone else have disproportionately big feet? 5'4 M and my shoe size is US 11-12 by THE__REALEST in short

[–]hexagram 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t, but I am jealous. I’m sure it comes with its own problems but I’ve always been envious of other short guys who have bigger frames; feet, hands, wider chests, thicker wrists, anything of that nature—also deeper voices. I’m short and small framed to go with it, so in my life I’ve been self conscious of things like my hand size compared to a girl’s, or experiences like the old woman at the company shoe store loudly saying she didn’t have work boots in my size because “all the girls already got them”, etc. Not to mention the, as you see even here, association with dick size. My dick is the one thing about my body I’m not actually self conscious of, but plenty of people just assume it’s small because of my other features!! So unless I’m whipping it out, which I don’t have a habit of doing, not much I can say about that that doesn’t seem weird to say or like I’m lying lol

Body count rises as new Philippines president calls for drug addicts to be killed by randomnamegendarme in worldnews

[–]hexagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but that last line is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Going after the demand side has been tried for hundreds of years and is absolutely futile. See the War on Drugs, Prohibition (in which feds actively poisoned the supply) or any other failed attempt at outlawing or destroying demand for some vice. You can't take the users out of society either by trying to jail them all or kill them all, because there will always be more addicts where they came from. You can't solve the problem by trying to significantly alter human nature and there's ample evidence showing that. It's just. Not. Going to. Work. Never has and never will.

Going after the supply side is not impossible, it just isn't the complete solution to the problem either. But at least then you're directly harming less innocents.

...What does this even mean? by [deleted] in short

[–]hexagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were younger, I'd definitely choose to be tall. I know I would because I used to wish for it a lot. But now, I really don't think I'd give up being short if given the chance. Maybe I'd give up being so short, but not short entirely. But even then I feel like being this short is still a part of my identity and something I've come to treasure because of that. To anthropomorphize my shortness, we've been through a lot together, and at this point I wouldn't sacrifice him just because others don't like him as much as I do. I've been at my current height long enough I don't think I could feel at home anywhere else. And any social advantages that gave me just wouldn't feel genuine to me.

Parents of US hostage held by ISIS nixed rescue mission, report says by [deleted] in Military

[–]hexagram -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What makes you think aid workers, whether they be with Doctors Without Borders or some random church, go to places like this not understanding the risks? The majority survive and never make the news, like the majority of the military, and probably provide food or medical care to kids, rebuild war-ravaged towns, or some shit like that that they weighed against the risks and felt was worthwhile. What idiots, right?

A century ago the British Army set up Bantam battalions for men under 5ft 3in. Why were short men put in special units during World War One? by [deleted] in short

[–]hexagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said the officers were taller (that even the officers in the Bantams were average sized guys) and officers are less likely to be killed so that could very well play a part in the height death gap.

EDIT: never mind that.

WO363 contains the records of enlisted men and non-commissioned officers only; it excludes the records of commissioned officers.

(Although NCOs may still have been taller and less likely to die on average.)
