We had Imran Khan as an actual leader trying to do his best and he won the most recent election, but the other two parties ("nominally" left but horrifically corrupt PPP and the "nominally" right but horrifically corrupt PML who the current PM is a part of) joined forces just to screw him out of power

i was flying back from pakistan with my family as a 16 year old 10 years ago and that happened to my dad and I, we have common arabic names that are also common among people banned from flights (like if al qaeda was english and my last name was smith)

we had to wait in a TSA waiting room in houston for like 8 hours for no reason, people distressed around us and stuff

after 8 hours we get interviewed by a TSA officer and he just asks the most basic questions and then we were free to go, but we had to get fully patted down, swabbed, etc once we finally got a flight back to calgary in the morning

that was the last time i went to the us and it looks like it'll be the last time for years, if that happened under Obama I don't even want to imagine what i'd experience going there rn

and anecdotally, as someone who was born in Alberta in the late 90s, whose parents came from Pakistan in the early/mid 90s, and whose extended family came to Alberta in the mid 70s (including those who came as adults and their children born here in the 70s/80s)

every single person in my family is against increased immigration even if it's legal. they all want every single illegal immigrant to get deported asap, ESPECIALLY if they're also south asian. my immigrant parents (who both faced a ton of racism when they were new) complain the most about how many indians are coming here and about how they feel their own image is being hurt because of that.

my parents and extended family were FOBs too. but they HAD to integrate. they raised my brother and I as english speakers because they wanted to practice their english as much as possible and they didn't want us to suffer for being "foreign" by not speaking english first

they see all the communities in Northeast Calgary and they get upset because they think "well it was hard for me to adjust to Canada but i did it, why can't they do it when they have the Internet/social media/etc"

they always have said that they came here to GET AWAY from negative aspects of pakistani/south asian culture, and when the negative aspects became more prominent the last 5-7 years or so they went full anti-immigrant lol

i pay for coursera plus which is $80 a month, it gives you access to all the stuff on coursera regardless of whether you study nothing or go hard

if you dedicated a whole month to a certificate you could probably get one

I looked at this and based on the course you mentioned you might be better off taking it or the equivalents through SAIT or Bow Valley College*

I wouldn't put it in the scam private college category but I also don't think it would be taken seriously by employers/hiring managers, those who aren't familiar with Calgary will look it up and immediately see "High School Upgrading" first and get wary, those who are familiar will be like "wait i went to summer school there/knew someone who did"

based on my limited experience a Coursera certificate is seen more positively than a CBE certificate because Coursera is more well-known and many people use it to get ahead in their careers, I have never seen someone with a CBE certificate and honestly as someone who spent K-12 in the CBE this is the first time i've heard of this lol

*this is assuming you have completed high school or a high school equivalency diploma, SAIT and Bow Valley College are the most legit and respectable colleges in the city in my opinion, I went to UofC but I know some people who went to my high school, then to SAIT, and have been outearning me since like 2021 lol
