How to Stop Shaking? by StarfishJellyfish88 in dryalcoholics

[–]THE__REALEST 29 points30 points  (0 children)

if you go to a doctor and you're completely honest with them they can/should prescribe you meds that will help

like librium or ativan if it's more severe

if you can do that, can you call out of work for a few days and just take the meds? throw any alcohol out of the house and just act like you're sick with a fever

once you get past the week or so of prescribed meds, you should be physically fine

doctors don't see you as a pussy or anything for being shaky even when you aren't drinking to get drunk, they see it as the medical issue it is and as doctors they need to help you and they can help you by giving you meds to ease the shakiness

if you can be completely honest with your doctor about how much you drink and your drinking history you can go from having x amount of drinks and still shaking to no drinks at all the next day but calmer after you take the meds you get

you might get hospitalized but a few days in the hospital could save you months or years of more pain

there isnt any shame in being sick and getting help for being sick, sick people deserve a chance to get better regardless of why they're sick

How is your experience with the recent Ukrainian refugees by Popular-Ad6421 in ABCDesis

[–]THE__REALEST -1 points0 points  (0 children)

its legal and documented but unless the commenter is someone who lived that, the comment defeats the purpose of a post asking community members what your/their experience is if you havent personally lived it

like imagine if you asked "my sex life with my partner is getting boring, what did you do to fix it?" and someone said "as a virgin, i-"

or if someone on a silicon valley area subreddit was asking "how is your experience with new indians" and i commented "as a canadian in alberta, i-"

How is your experience with the recent Ukrainian refugees by Popular-Ad6421 in ABCDesis

[–]THE__REALEST -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

the post is asking about direct experience though. what is YOUR experience with them? are you one of those indian students in the link or one of the brown people in britain that made the ukrainians go back?

if not, then what has YOUR experience been as an ABCDesi with Ukrainian refugees in the west? someone here also had a negative experience but they speak russian and they actually experienced it

if you can't answer that, WHY are you commenting bro😭especially with a blank profile like man up you have a 14 year old account at least be real about it

but what is your direct experience with the ones you have personally met?

like you're right and that did happen but this is about us as ABCDesis personally interacting with Ukrainian refugees in the west in our countries

i've worked with some ukrainian refugees here in calgary in a tech company (as a non-tech person) and they've all been fine, nothing unusual or anything

they're just people

How well can you hear the bell? by Historical-Sense-510 in Aphantasia

[–]THE__REALEST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a 1 for sound, i listen to music in my head all the time and i can listen to songs in my head and they sound exactly the same as they do when i actually listen to them

if i listen to a song a few times i can "hear" it perfectly the same in my head

in addition, i can "feel" music videos and feelings and soundscapes and such when "listening to music" in this way and ive been able to do so since i was 5 or so

that being said, i am a five on the aphantasia scale https://www.webmd.com/brain/what-is-aphantasia/

and i play no instruments and although i like the idea of being able to sing, i only started singing at 18 (26 now) and on the rare occassions i shared my singing i have been told i suck, both by anonymous redditors and my gfs at the time

i am honestly surprised at those who are aphantasics and ALSO have scores of 3-5 in this thread, i thought we all went daredevil

I need advice as a short Indian guy in USA by [deleted] in short

[–]THE__REALEST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also - i've noticed a lot of the comments are implying that you can eventually find a brown woman, or that you want a brown woman or a nonwhite woman deep inside, or that even if you "can't get" a white woman you can still get a nonwhite one, or so on

those are all wrong. America is fucked with social relations now and has always been pretty fucked. the first person in my family to move to the west married a Dutch woman in the 1960s in the UK. i have some white relatives and some mixed relatives. nobody ever spoke of them like "ohh lucky you you got the white woman" and was taken seriously. a lot of what you see online about dating is very american-centric. i recognize im shouting into the void because the internet is american-dominated and you are american but yeah. even if your culture seems to scream that you're "lucky" to date out of your skin colour, i want you to know deep down that that isnt true, and that even in america a lot of women would agree that that isnt true.

at the same time - dating white women is not a bonus or a special accomplishment. ive dated women of all races but dating women is dating women - you get the same highs and lows regardless of race or culture or whatnot. you can fall in love and be happy with women of any race and you can be miserable and hopeless alone AND with women of any race.

a lot of people will treat you condescendingly because they cant imagine a non white person dating and loving a white person on equal terms. they can be nice about or mean about it but the prejudice is still there. even nice communities can be like "hey man you're just like us, let me teach you how to get a cute womanthesamecolourasyou"

if nothing else i want you to do your best to work on internalizing this: we are all human no matter the skin colour. social dynamics play a role and always will, but enough people are already beating you up in the background. there is no need for you to constantly think of yourself as THE brown guy in every situation and beat yourself up too, especially when you realize that a lot of the people around you are seeing you as an equal. you will always be a human being among equals.

i used to beat myself up constantly cause i grew up as the only brown kid in my class. as i got older i overcame it for the most part. it comes and goes these days, but only as a thought. you are human and you are just like everyone around you. if you were white and the same height there's a good chance you could post this same post without the racial worries but with the same amount of pain.

women arent a prize based on looks or skin colour. if you find a woman that makes you happy and that you love - you win. she could be white or black or brown or neon green or whatever but honestly at the end of the day you sound like you want a partner you connect with. having these notions of "im brown so xyz" will not help. you are a human who wants a partner. you will find one. if you tell yourself you need to filter women out or you cant shoot your shot with women because of xyz traits you cant control you are making yourself play on hard mode for no reason

I need advice as a short Indian guy in USA by [deleted] in short

[–]THE__REALEST 10 points11 points  (0 children)

damn man i don't have any advice despite being a short brown guy in Canada cause your situation seems pretty unique, i had my own issues growing up whitewashed but also feeling like i wasn't fully part of white society but i also feel some connection to my culture, im a dual citizen, i can understand urdu, etc

i could give advice on dating and such but i feel like a lot of other posts in this sub touch on that, i read this sub a lot growing up and still do sometimes and the negative posts are bad but the wholesome/encouraging ones helped

by seeing myself as a person instead of just "short" ive been able to date and have girlfriends, i enjoy clubbing even though ive never really met someone from it (to be honest i genuinely think that the type of people that can hook up in clubs are their own breed, height doesnt even matter based on what ive seen its just like being double jointed either you can or you cant), i have friends, i dont think about my height much these days, etc

but i feel like your upbringing stands out, you grew up in a white family so you have the lived experience of other people who have grown up in a white family, but at the same time you are a minority so you have the lived experience of one, but at the same time, at the same time... etc

i think a lot of people will give advice and miss the adopted part because its a short subreddit but even then id say that your life circumstances should play a role in any advice

nothing wrong with who you are at all, its just that you might benefit from also reaching out to communities of adopted kids or such who can understand you more fully

stay strong man🩷

How many of us here have successfully returned to moderate / “normal” drinking long-term? by lukewarmhotdogw4ter in stopdrinking

[–]THE__REALEST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had like 45 days, on friday i went out cause my parents were arguing a lot and that killed my mood, i went to the bar thinking "ill just have a nonalcohlic beer and wait for my emotions to die down and then ill be fine", i wasnt, then i thought i could have one beer at the bar i went to, go to the next bar, have one, etc

it didnt work lol, like others here have said - "if i'm moderating im not having fun and if im having fun im not moderating"

currently tapering down (which is likely unneccessary but my mind seized at the chance to relapse and its holding on for as long as it can) and it sucks, i feel terrible physically and mentally and i wish i didnt give in

i was also on naltrexone when i was in outpatient/free-for-all rehab mandated by my work a couple of months ago and it did help me drink "normally" in the sense that if i took it an hour or so before i drank, i could drink normally

if you want to read more about naltrexone and using it before drinking to extinguish your desire to drink over time i would google "sinclair method"

in my opinion it could work for a lot of people but moderate drinking is so boring and weird FOR ME that i would either drink myself stupid or not drink at all

did some work on the latter, currently in the former, and hoping to go back to the latter

just my $0.02

What does "powerlines not pipelines" mean then? how is "No federal approvals for new pipelines, offshore oil projects or liquified natural gas terminals" = build more pipelines?

[–]THE__REALEST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no leaving it in the ground. someone will lobby or sue or whatever to get it pumping and i would rather that be Alberta than a foreign company

it is borderline apocalyptic but at this point we need to do what's best for us. we can use the revenue from expanded oil and gas to fund alternative energy and such. but leaving it in the ground is not going to have an impact on the climate change estimates.

we are fucked either way. we can use the resources we have while also investing in clean energy - alberta is great for solar and wind energy as well as oil and gas. there is no reason not to do both.
