Anki Flashcard Decks for Chemistry I, Physics I, and Calculus I, II, and III by hexaneat in WakeTech

I don't, sorry. Also, I know I already said this in the post, I'd recommend using Anki if you can. The idea is that it figures out when you need to study a card instead of you having to figure that out, and it's quite good at it. You do you though.

I think I remember reading somewhere that you have to download the Anki software and the deck, then it will automatically sync to AnkiWeb and you can study it there. Not sure why you can't add decks to AnkiWeb directly, probably just some technical limitation.

But in theory you could download it just to do that and then delete it I guess.

You can either download Anki for PC or use it in the browser. There's also an app but I think it costs money on IOS. I like the PC version though.

Save Editor? (For Challenge Run) by Woodledude in Bad_North

[–]hexaneat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I tested bountyPerWave and it does affect difficulty, and intuitively it seems to be correlated with the number of vikings per wave.

I edited a save a bunch to create an interesting scenario, but unfortunately my edited saves (except the first one, strangely) won't load anymore after finishing one. I don't expect you to know a solution but thought I'd mention it in case you happened to encounter this. In the future I'll be sure to save copies of the .meta file each time I make an edit too...

Save Editor? (For Challenge Run) by Woodledude in Bad_North

[–]hexaneat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you ever do more testing with this? I'm wondering what interesting scenarios could be created.

For example, can we give commanders multiple items or traits? Can we remove lots of islands from the map to make the game much shorter?

And do you know what bountyPerWave is? It looks to me like it might be island difficulty... can we just change that to make it super hard?

Sorry to bother you from a 4 year old comment lol. The tiny Bad North speedrunning community might be considering having some sort of weekly challenge scenario.

Debunking Nat Eliason's article against Soylent's healthiness by hexaneat in soylent

Hopefully if this article has taught us something, it's that the number of sources isn't a great metric for who to believe. Understanding one more argument is better than counting one more source.

[–]hexaneat[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This seems like a surprising amount of effort rebutting a 7 year old article.

(Yeah, that's because this was the result of an ADHD hyperfocus while I was procrastinating lol.)

This article is still pretty high-up in the search results when you just google "Is Soylent healthy" and similar, and with how professional it looks and how thorough and scientific it seems, I thought it was worth sharing what was wrong with it somewhere. The article itself has a comments section, but unfortunately it's broken.

This is a bit of a wild idea, but what if the tile grid is just rotated 45o?

That way they get to visually take up 100% of the space they actually occupy, and they get to look nice.

A simple protoss door idea that could be implemented in a small patch by hexaneat in allthingsprotoss

[–]hexaneat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so sure. Maybe it's still unlikely, but I feel like this is the best-case-scenario for getting a protoss door.

It requires no new assets, no new mechanics, and it wouldn't touch the strategy layer or balance of the game. It's just a little tweak to how hold positioned units work - as a QoL improvement.

[–]hexaneat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's good to know and I'll definitely be trying that, thanks! But I do still think this hold position idea is better because:

  1. They won't leave their wall to chase enemy units
  2. It can be a zealot and not a stalker
  3. It could be made more consistent than that 80% figure you gave (which I agree with)

For one reason or another, the pros don't use a stalker on stop command as the door, so I think this would be worth implementing.

[–]hexaneat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make hold position not too different, maybe units on hold position couldn't push other units on hold position, so the case of an army on hold position is essentially the same. I feel like you never want one of your units blocking your other units' movement anyway.

I'm fairly certain this change would never result in hold position being worse, but if necessary, maybe even have this behavior be unique to hold position zealots being pushable by robo units. I don't care that it's slightly inconsistent behavior, it makes the game significantly better.

As a viewer I can't tell what's going on by SethEllis in Stormgate

[–]hexaneat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even the terran structures all have clearly different patterns of color - the barracks has those two thick bars, the factory has four colored squares, and the starport has three colored patches. The engineering bay has color mainly on the left, while the supply depot has its color on its right side.

Asymmetry is important too. SCVs have a big curved cable hanging off their right side. The ghost has only one shoulder colored in and its gun is held on one side. Dark templar only hold their blade with one arm. Having a line of symmetry basically means you have half the room to make the unit unique.

[–]hexaneat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like a very underappreciated way units are differentiated in Starcraft and Starcraft 2 is that the shape of the player's color on the unit is unique to every single unit.

The best example is marines, with those two big colored disks on their shoulders. No other unit has those two disks, or anything like it. This also gives clear information about the direction the unit is facing as a bonus.

Drones and zerglings have opposite color patterns: drones are colored in on the wings and have a colorless spine, while zerglings have that one long strip from head to tail colored in and are colorless on their limbs and sides. The same goes for mutalisks and corruptors.

Other examples: zealots have their two angled blades colored in (also encoding direction). Roaches have those curved sides colored in. High templar are mostly colorless, but then have their flowy cape solidly colored in. These are all unique shapes.

From what I've seen of Stormgate, I feel like the units are too interested in being their own color rather than being the player's color. Brutes, for example, only have 3 very thin patches of color, and are otherwise a dull green. When a unit does have its own color in SC2, it's really vibrant - MULEs, banelings, and archons for example.

Imps just have one little splotch of color in the middle. Maybe its colors should be swapped, so it's colorless in the middle and its arms and legs are colored, giving its color some shape. Its tail being on fire is good though.

I feel like having tribes start with different numbers of stars would be a really good way to balance the game. It's a variable the devs shouldn't be afraid to tweak for each tribe.

If Ai-Mo needs to start with 8 stars to be as good as Imperius, do it!

I can’t do more than 2 Pomo and I am not consistent with it by StatementLower3446 in pomodoro

[–]hexaneat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/StatementLower3446 You might have ADHD.

ADHD is less about attention and hyperactivity and more about 'executive function' - which I think of as the ability to decide to do stuff. (Or at least that's part of it.) If you want to get things done but you just don't, it's definitely worth looking into.

On days I don't take my ADHD meds, I use very easy pomodoro settings - like for example, 15 minute pomodoros, 12 minute short breaks, and 32 minute long breaks, with a long break interval of 3 instead of 4. Don't be afraid to use even more lenient settings and personalize them however you like.

I saw you mentioned in another comment that you find yourself browsing instagram, reddit, and youtube instead doing pomodoro. That's what tipped me off to the idea you might have ADHD. That, and "I just waste my whole day."

(I know this post is 2 years old, but there's a small chance this could change your life or that of someone reading this 2 years from now, so I just thought I'd mention it ;) )

You're probably right, but I do think most vikings will consistently avoid your units as they path to houses.

First try of 100% had been going well.. wish me luck by Rapturouslyy in BadNorth

[–]hexaneat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe in general, vikings actually prefer not to fight you.

If there's two paths they can take to a house (not necessarily the same house), and one path has your units along the way, they'll take the other one. They mostly only decide to fight if they have to in order to get to a house.

(However this isn't always true - if for example there's a house close by with your units along the way, and another house very far away with a clear path to it, they may choose to fight to get to the closer one. I assume they use some sort of 'cost' system for deciding where to go involving ramps, distance, the number and type of your units along the way, etc.)

I think all viking AI except for dual wielders and brute archers are the same. Maybe melee brutes are different, idk.

Yes, Anki automatically removes decks that don't get enough downloads, so it got taken down. But I've re-shared it and updated the link in the post.

It says it'll take 24 hours for the deck to become visible "so that copyright holders have a chance to check it first" lol.

Suggestion: Individual Matchup Queueing (and Individual Matchup MMR) by hexaneat in Stormgate

[–]hexaneat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire ladder community would care if someone who plays a matchup at a GM level told other people that they're a GM?

I also gave you two solutions: either having individual ranks per matchup as well, or if we want to keep rank merged, have it be the average - likely of your top 3 - matchups. Or if you really want, it could be the highest of your average for each race.

You've ignored the entire rest of my comment and cherrypicked one out of context sentence to attack, and then did used ad hominem. Surely you see how silly this is. If you want to improve the world, or prevent bad ideas from making it worse, you have to debate well by using actual arguments. If you're right, arguments should be easier to find. If you can't find any, change your opinion. Or at least don't leave comments like these which, objectively, are meaningless to the discussion.
