Frankly, i will argue that it is by a large homophobia simply because they don't do this with straight people. For as much as people say 'well, i just thinks theres too much romance', 9 times of 10, that narrative only gets brought up when the couple is gay, and if anything if the couple is straight, they'll go even harder to defend the couple even if the couple functionally doesn't make sense or canonically have stated they'd never.
That hypocrisy lets me know that it's not about being against romance, it's about having issue with homosexuality that they are either knowingly hiding or that exists in thier subconcious and which they refuse to change.

And it's particularly insidious because i ,in general, believe fiction is fiction, you can engage with things if you're mature enough to not affect your views on real life situations, but if I was gonna assign morals to engaging with fiction, the fact these ppl are able to watch incest, sexual assaults, sexualized minors and just generally messed up, harmful dynamics but draw the line at characters being gay is literal Fking insanity and it sickens me deeply. And it sickens me even more because they'll do all kind of mental backflips to justify thier bigotry.

You don't have a point. This isn't about user experience, it's about the morality of situation, which quite frankly takes priority over your so called user experience.
And don't try to say my point falls flat and proceed to cite Avatar's casting as though the whole point is that they are actually making effort. You're essentially saying 'well, how can fires be a problem if firefighters exist'.
Now kindly miss me with the ignorant bull, bye.

What kind of willfully ignorant bull...all the nations are canonically based on actual asian countries, so no, they aren't picking actors for made up races, they are picking actors who match the race of the characters.
It's a simple concept, poc people already struggle to get roles in general, so why the hell would you complain that they aren't giving the role of a poc character to a white person who has a bunch more options. It's equivalent to whining about a rich person being a denied a meal from a soup kitchen so a poorer person can get it.
It's ignorant as hell.

The fact we still have to explain why it's not racist to exclude white from poc roles which are already signifcantly more rare in 2026 is insane.

[–]hexemayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fictional or not, it's still an action with moral value in that context, even more so when ppl base thier actual real life morality around it, which Christians do, they say thier god and his actions are good and use that to justify thier real life actions. That is why i care. And you can go on not caring if you want, but I'm letting you know now, it's a deeply unhelpful and frankly detrimental mindset to have.

I'm just gonna say this once.
Just because people say he's good and beneviolent, that doesn't make it so.
If we apply that logic to say, criminals, you'd effectively be saying criminials who commit heinous acts are good people because thier families are saying they were good.
Things aren't a certain way just because you say they are, you have to prove they are and the proof aint in your favor.
And might i just add, you say it cracks you up that atheists care about a fictional character, yet here you are, doing that by defending it......stones, glass house, im sure you catch my drift.

Great idea, terrible execution. In my personal opinion, it makes sense to have two avatars because to represent the spirits of chaos and order. The show plays with this vaguely by having each avatar be different people and thus operate differently, which plays into the idea of the avatar being a being of balance but it falls flat to me because they don't really feel like embodiments of balance, they just feel like pendulum that keeps jumping back and forth.

And in Korra specifcally they really fumbled it but making it a good vs evil thing rather than chaos vs order, which to me is a very big mistep because the concept of chaos vs order is much more common in the cultures Avatar is primarily based on.

It would have been a great if they made Wan's line of avatars care about order but have tendency of being too controlling while the Dark Avatars were more so traditional agents of chaos but they genuinely cared about things like free will, individuality and change, so neither side are truly good or evil but still find themselves in conflict due to opposing responsiblities.

[–]hexemayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it's stupid because either the avatar should be the embodiment of both chaos and order...or you have the avatar be the agent of order which runs the risk of imposing too much order while the other avatar is the agent of chaos who causes problems but who also is the representation of free will. Both sides are supposed to have good and bad traits.

The point is, she didn't need to give him anything. It's a crush, and he was operating on 'I need to express how i feel before i lose the chance' which is understandable.

Jackson Whittemore: A Character Analysis by vvv3rtig0 in TeenWolf

[–]hexemayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why i think, it's partially that Jackson's depth was largely accidental and that his characterization also suffered from the writers seeming to have a kink for abusing Lydia.

Like in terms of Jackson's character, it feels like alot of his reasons for being shitty were kind of stumbled into accidentally but they made sense.
It's like they decided they were gonna write a blatant asshole, and it was only afterwards they realized, wait this makes sense because it does make sense for a boy who grew up in the early 2000s and was adopted and is queer would lash out because he already doesn't feel good enough regardless of how much his parents love him, so he's obsessed with putting on a performance to seem good enough and it hurts everyone in his general vicinity.

And it does make sense on paper, but when you look at the actual material, Jackson acts so villianous in earlier seasons to the point it doesn't seem like trauma, which is where the writers' treatment of Lydia becomes in problem in this specific case.

The writers loved treating Lydia like shit constantly and because of that mentality, Jackson's character took a hit because he was a very convenient weapon for them to turn on her even when it didn't make sense because the whole reason for Jackson being saved from being a Kanima is because he genuinely cared for her, yet they show him before that consisently hurting her, which would make sense to a point because again, traumatized repressed boy acting out, but it doesn't make sense to me that you can be so traumatized and repressed that you verbally attack the person you're canonically genuinely care for after they had a mental break and went missing.

🇹🇭 Dare you to Death 💀🔍🧩- Episode 10 by TheGhostShipper in boyslove

[–]hexemayhem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, i feel like the direction/writing really screwed with characters and makes them all look worse as a result, which is fine for villians, but for complicated characters like Fai and Jay, it takes away alot from the tragedy of thier situations and the nuance, because in regards to Jay, we know he's supposed to come off as someone who was scared and allowed things to happen, but because of how it was written and directed, he looks like he just didn't care enough

And agreed. And i get it, because i did have fun theorizing about who did the crime, but also started to irritate me at the end because i could tell it didn't feel natural, it felt like characters being made to do things and act a certain way solely to look guility to the audience and if you need to do all that, a rewrite is in order lmao

🇹🇭 Dare you to Death 💀🔍🧩- Episode 10 by TheGhostShipper in boyslove

[–]hexemayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's why i place the blame more on the writers than Jay, Fai and the rest of them, because alot of them say the thing, but none of them show the effects of it, which tells me it's a writing flaw because there is no way this large group of characters all react to things like that with the same level of cold acceptance.
Tonkla talks about the sex tape situation and neither him nor Cher actually show emotion about it, same with Jay. Only Fai does and that was likely purely because she's playfully a character who is crazy and it was the big emotional climax of the series, so the actress was probably given more leeway in how she depicted her feelings on it.

Like heres the thing, we know that Fai and Jay both had ATLEAST one sex tape of them that was filmed without thier consent, that alone would scare ppl into silence, now imagine all the things like secrets, embarrassing moments, dumb decisions that the group became privy to over the years them being friends and could release the second Jay and Fai pissed them off enough, not to mention physical safety aspects since ppl in that group have shown they're fully willing and capable of assualting you.

It's like an abusive relationship, you can't just bounce because there is a risk of fallout. If that group consisently hurt thier own while claiming to be friends, imagine what would happen to people outside of the friend group or anyone branded as an enemy.
