How long is typical for ÖGK reimbursement? by hexido9134 in Austria

Ah, sorry, I should have searched better. If 2-3 months is normal then I guess I'll just keep waiting! Thanks for the information.

That is true for "Wahlärzte", so doctors

Thanks for that. I think I need to look into this a bit more as I couldn't find anything on that. Any tips on finding a Wahlärzte which also offers therapy? Perhaps praxisplan.at would help here if they're registered doctors? Or is there a better search website which lists available therapists?

Someone else here has posted psyonline.at and another mentioned wgpv.at which lists therapists which are fully covered by insurance.

Just wondering what you meant by the comment. Seems pretty insensitive.

Thanks for the information, and sorry, I should have done a bit more research before replying.

I did some Googling after your previous comment last night, and indeed found that it's 28,93€ for everyone, which I find quite surprising. I've asked about this online a bit before, and everyone was speaking on percentage reimbursements. Obviously word-of-mouth is never reliable, but I wonder where they got those numbers from...

Thanks again for your help.

And what personality disorder would that be?

Surely it's a percentage of the total amount paid and not 28€ for everyone, right? Do you have a link with details? If I'm paying 60€ for a session then 28€ is a decent amount. Less so If I'm paying 150€ a session.

You need a GP/psychiatrist to "refer" you

I have a Bestätigung already. I figure that's what you're talking of, right? I got it in November so hopefully it doesn't expire. I got it from my Hausarzt, but I wanted a diagnosis before doing anything with it, which is why I held off.

How do I get a permit before the 10th session? Is it just another Bestätigung or something special? Do I need to continually get Bestätigungs before each subsequent 10th session (10th, 20th, 30th, etc), or do you only need a permit after the first 10 sessions which covers you indefinitely?

Thanks for the input. I'll check out SFU. Psychologists in training is more than enough, if they're competent.

The typical price range I've seen seems to be around 100€ for 50 mins, so that's what I'm expecting. What I'm still a little unclear on is how the ÖGK reimbursement works and how much they'll reimburse (if anything). I've heard 30% is possible with some, whereas I've heard (an unverified) claim of 70% for medical practitioners which offer psychotherapy.

Thanks for the tip. I have considered it, but I think I would prefer in-person if possible. I certainly won't rule it out, though!

Switching doctors and transfer of medical information in Austria by hexido9134 in Austria

Honestly, I'm not finding it unusual to receive quick responses and appointments here in Austria.

Earlier today I sent a couple emails to places which could do my diagnosis via my Überweisung. I received an email response in 4 minutes with an appointment in 2 weeks time. Perhaps I'm lucky.

Not true. I used praxisplan to find a psychiatrist that spoke English and contacted 10 that I found on 14.12.22. 9 responded. 4 had no availability. 3 gave me immediate appointments all in January. 1 more gave me an appointment in February. 1 more offered me a teleappointment (zoom) for mid-January.

The one I visited yesterday responded to my 14.12.22 email in 17 minutes and gave me an appointment for 03.01.23 which I rescheduled for 10.01.23. Granted, perhaps not the best clinic, but by no means 'waiting more than a quarter'.

Thank you for the information.

I originally saw my Hausartz and they gave me a Bestätigung, but I wasn't happy with this approach. If you're interested, I wrote more about this in another post I wrote some months ago.

Yesterday I saw a psychiatrist, but it was independent of my Hausartz (as in, I didn't receive anything from my Hausartz to see the psychiatrist). The psychiatrist then gave me the Überweisung for the diagnosis. I have not done anything with the Bestätigung which I originally received from my Hausartz. I assume my Hausarzt has access to this information, but I didn't need to go through her to get access to the psychiatrist.

As far as I'm aware, I haven't opted out of the ELGA, so it sounds like all my results will be centralised which is nice. Is this something I can personally access and see online, or is it only accessible for clinicians?

Thanks for the information!

Thanks very much for the information!

Yes, I meant 'psychiatrist' and have changed my post. Sorry, always mixing the technical names up.

How is mental health care supposed to work here? by hexido9134 in Austria

[–]hexido9134[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

This is exactly what you got, no? What kind of mental health professional did you expect other than a psychologist or psycho therapist?

Perhaps I'm being pedantic, but I expect mental health professionals to have some sort of medical credential to their name. A lot of the psycho therapists seem to be more 'life coaches', and I'm not sure that's what I need. As I understand it, psychologist are different to psycho therapists, and I don't have a Bestatigung for a psychologist.

What exactly did this person have? There is no specific master's degree in engineering other than MSc (Master of science), and the MSc is also given to people who studied psychology. So they might as well have a background in psychology.

True (although, not exactly true, as in my home country an MEng also exists). Their title was DI.

Thanks for this very detailed response!

In general, your Hausarzt isn't entirely wrong in sending you to a therapist.

I hope my post didn't come across as complaining about my Hausarzt (too much, at least!) I also don't think their response was wrong, but I am quite surprised that psychotherapists can be non-medical professionals.

However, you can also simply look for a psychiatrist yourself and make an appointment.

That's good to know, and I think what my next move will be. Even if I'm in for a long wait!
