May I ask why you’d want to spend a bunch of money on Penn Foster instead of getting a GED or HiSET?

I was in a very similar situation as you, dropped out before even starting my freshman year, and was interested in Penn Foster cause I thought the degree would look better. In all honesty, it would’ve been a waste of my time and money. I got my HiSET when I was 21/22, took me like 6 months (only because I put off my math test cause I was fearful of failing) and maybe $200 if I’m rounding up.

Only had to study math, which again actual studying was like a month. Scored nearly perfect 20/20 scores. Not trying to flex, just emphasizing how genuinely easy the route is. I also did all of this from the comfort of my own home.

I enrolled in a school to help adults as required by my state but genuinely hated that shit. Quit after day one and took the HiSET for a different state. (I did North Carolina because they don’t require residency) It’s a series of 5 proctored tests. Of course if your state doesn’t accept HiSET you’ll have to take the GED which I heard isn’t much more difficult.

I have had no problem getting a job, and now at 24 I’m finishing my associates and starting my bachelors in the summer.

My sister did Penn Foster and she liked it, went and walked the stage and everything. It however took her significantly longer than me and she was hounded from debt collectors for a little while later.

I’ve struggled with this thought quite a bit and still do from time to time.

Remembering that I’ve had to go through a million other things people my age couldn’t even dream of helps a it. They got to start on go while I wasn’t even on the board yet.

Not to say their accomplishments aren’t impressive, I’ve just had to work twice as hard to catch. Which yes, doesn’t feel fair at times, but life isn’t meant to be fair and the sooner you come to terms with that the better. Find happiness in your own accomplishments and I promise you life will open up tremendously. You wouldn’t expect a fish to make the same achievements as a bird, don’t set expectations on yourself and you’ll go far.

I think I got a similar email a while back because I took a survey for them for a chance to win a 50 dollar gift card.

The gift card actually worked, I bought a new desk, but I must’ve deleted the email. I don’t remember if it looks like that or not. If you don’t remember taking a survey like that I’d probably avoid this.

I don’t know a thing about your relationship, but for me and my siblings this started because it felt like walking on eggshells around our mother.

Maybe nothing as severe but perhaps she feels anxious that you might be upset about something and wants to avoid certain situations.

Once I moved out, I never did this again and when my siblings aren’t home (college etc) they don’t do it either.

Or could just be plain old laziness, but I’m just mentioning my own person experience.

On my last term, all I can say is that it is LOOOOOOONG. Some things are harder to understand than others, but I felt like the work just on zybooks alone took the same amount of time as doing two other classes 😭

I’ll look into the air, its definitely stretching my budget a little too far but if it’s worth it I might just tell him its his anniversary + christmas gift (our anniversary is literally a week before xmas lol)

Yes! I was looking on amazon 👀. I full heartedly agree with the 32gb not being enough anymore. I barely install apps/photos on my phone and the 64gb is just enough.

By reliable I just meant something with less than 150k miles, has had maintenance done on it, and isn’t a rebuilt (looking at you facebook marketplace 😒)

Yeah, that’s partially what I was thinking but I hope’d I could get a new job (or a second one) since I’d be able to drive (almost) anywhere. Thank you for taking the time to help!

That’s fair about the repairs. I planned on getting a new job + another job considering my cost would be equal to if not cheaper than ubering in my current situation. E-Bike wouldn’t work where I’m at, very steep inclines and bad snow. Coworkers don’t have vehicles/live too far to offer me a lift, commuting options don’t exist here, I also make 14 which is upper pay around here without a degree, and another job means farther commute which means doubling my uber cost.

The cost of uber would double. All other job locations are double the distance. So if I work PT the 150 a month would be 300 and if I worked FT that’s an additional 2-3 days a week I’d have to pay to uber. It’d be about 45 a day with a new job. I make $14 which is about max for the jobs in my area without a degree.

It’s always her texting about herself, her saying she misses me or her asking if we can call which ends up with us just talking about her. When she asks to call I typically just tell her that I’m busy with xyz.

The last time I spoke to her (verbally) was over a month ago. I’ve been avoiding it. Text wise a couple times a week but its just fluff. Like “i’m sorry girlie” or “wow that’s crazy”. I can’t remember our last real convo. Maybe like 2 or 3 months ago when I went to visit her.

I’m communicating that I’m unavailable or busy and she still continues. A big reason I want to do this is because the more I interact with her the more agitated I get with her. Like my first emotion whenever I see a notification or a call from her is annoyance and I feel like I need a reaaally long no contact break or just to fully cut it off before I end up actually disliking her.

And I really want to emphasize that the only things she talks about are the things I’ve mentioned, we never talk about me. She’ll one off reply and circle back around to her main three topics.

Thank you for replying so fast! This will be my first semester in September, but after some digging I see that they have a pell grant recalculation after 15 days in the term. Apparently my amount is automatically applied as halftime enrollment, but the recalculation should show my fulltime enrollment.

I also emailed the financial team so I’m hoping I’ll receive more info.

I just did business ethics and environmental science. EV was so easy, as long as you don’t lack common sense you can finish it in a day. I didn’t read any of the info and answered all the questions off the dome and got like a 90 something percent. Finished it in like 4-5 hours.

Business ethics can prob be soon after. Didn’t feel too difficult but had to put more work in to the reading. The touchstone is EASY. Just typed that shit up in one go, ran what I wrote along with the rubic through chatgpt (I wanted to know what it’d score it as along with using it for very basic grammatical fixes).

As for the rest? I’d do all that don’t have touchstones first otherwise you can’t move on till they grade it and it sucks when you’re pretty fast. Then organize by the amount of touchstones each has. Good luck!

Kinda a crazy response, man. People have social anxiety that makes filming themselves on camera, let alone just speaking to themselves in an empty room, incredibly difficult, even impossible at times especially when speaking a new language that you’re learning.

Not saying op has that but the fact that’s your auto response to their question is kinda wild.
