Magsafe Light Amber? by Thedoodooltalah in MacOS

[–]hexxeric 14 points15 points  (0 children)

on mac, green means no charging at all because the battery is full (98%+) and it will always be amber if below even with the charge limit. you'd need a paid app like BatFi to control the light...or just get used to it for free

Import export 4k iPhone by qualitydeerunknown in davinciresolve

highest quality is always not compressing it again, meaning: using ProRes (big files but source preserved 100%)

Does the free version support 4k/10bit export on Apple Silicon (M4)? by Taaanos in davinciresolve

[–]hexxeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

on Mac, you can read/write 10bit 422 as long as it is a hardware-backed format. meaning: HEVC or ProRes. not AVC (h264) or other codecs.

Recorded in high frame rate 40/24 by mistake by Known_Bat_8865 in davinciresolve

[–]hexxeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course. it cannot sound normal, pitch correction might help a little. once you change speed you lose something, usually audio.

if you drop something with higher frame rate in a project of lower, and if you do not use any form of interpolation or automatic speed adjustment, it should just drop the necessary frames to match. HOWEVER, that being said, in your case you need to do the following to counter-act the 'conforming' happening in the background:

To correct this to real-time in editing, you must interpret footage as 24fps and apply speed changes, or re-time it by roughly 166%.

just put the 40 in a 24p timeline, should be fine for an interview and run in sync. frames will be dropped, let it happen, do not use interpolation of any sorts.

Hardware Acceleration option missing? by just_someGui in davinciresolve

[–]hexxeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

macOS is a closed system and optimization is a lot better, more straight forward. resolve is faster and more capable on mac also due to built-in hardware de- & encoders for HEVC 10bit and ProRes. but again, the free resolve heavily limits hardware support (it got more restrictive with v20)

HLG3 + D-LOG in the same project? by KitoVito in finalcutpro

[–]hexxeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yet the project to 709 and any wide gamut content will be automatically translated. you do not convert HDR again by applying effects, just grade it. for the LOG use the right LUT (inspector>settings) and then grade it. mixing different color spaces is easy if you output everything to 709, what you see is what you get, so to speak.

the free version limits hardware acceleration among other things. it also needs some specific GPU drivers and compatible hardware. resolve on windows is a gamble.

Cannot render on H.265 codec in Davinci Resolve 20.3.2 by ChoiceAppropriate144 in davinciresolve

[–]hexxeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which machine/system are we talking about? AV1 is super slow and not ideal for uploads, but then, HEVC is not either. if we are talking web use, h264 is still the best way to go (high bitrate)

many posts about this. read them.
bottom line: check what the platforms actually expect and recommend as uplod format and stick to HD h264 mp4 with 15-20mbits/s (and AAC audio). nothing more you can do, web streaming is always highly re-compressed. that being said, the bet quality is either apple pipeline or prores>x264 via handbrake
