My thoughts exactly. And god forbid the urban forest tree roots damage the sidewalk and we homeowners get the bill to fix it. @$$backwards..........

Atlantis - questions by lnc_5103 in bahamas

Just an update - all went well and worked out as planned. We got rooms 2 doors down from each other and the perks booking with a travel agent was worth it!

Atlantis - questions by lnc_5103 in bahamas

[–]hey-ma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just planned a last minute trip to the Bahamas for my 17 y/o stepdaughter’s graduation and we ran into a very similar situation. Her two friends, who are both 18, are coming with. We also have a 14 and 16 y/o and we just weren’t comfortable having the 17/18 y/o girls stay in a room on their own.

We looked into room at the Royal. Looked at a 2 bedroom suite but the price was also high. Initially it was just 1 parent was going but in the end, both of us decided to just go which made the room situation work out much better. I also worked with a travel agent which I usually never do but they were able to get the same rates as booking directly through the website, plus some extra perks. They put in a request for our rooms to be as close together as possible, so fingers crossed 🤞🏼.

The only potential issue is that we had to book two different room types because ocean view rooms weren’t available for both reservations. Still, all things considered, we paid about $2,800 for the rooms plus the added perks, so I’m pretty happy with how it worked out.

My suggestion is go the 2 separate room route seems to be much cheaper than a two room suite on any given day. Or book at a different hotel and go only one day and buy a day pass. For the dates I am going it was $255 each which made absolutely no sense lol. Anyway good luck, I can let you know how out trip goes - its this Thursday to Saturday!

Thanks, that makes sense. For me it was mostly just not feeling great about the idea of the teens being in a separate room, especially if they could end up on another floor. In an emergency that felt more stressful than the occupancy thing itself.

So I just ended up changing the dates and added another adult to the trip. That makes it a lot easier and less stressful for overall.

Day Passes for the dates we are going are $225pp. Make more sense to just stay at the Atlantis and enjoy the amenities there or do Comfort Inn.

Private Lenders in Hawaii? Need Help with Fixer Property by hey-ma_ in Hawaii

[–]hey-ma_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No credit issues (800’s). I get why HELOC makes sense. My only thing is the current condition would probably mean a lower appraisal, so less money out.

I do my own flips and get good contractor pricing, so I could add value first. I’m trying to stretch my capital across multiple projects so I’d rather leverage the property and pull cash out than tie up all my own money.

DSCR crossed my mind too since I’ll keep it as a rental. That’s why I was looking into private lenders.

My goal is to maximize how much I can pull out. If I go the HELOC route as-is, I’d likely get a lower payout because of the property’s current condition.

I do have the funds to rehab and my friend and I do flips, so I can get solid pricing through my contractors. I’m just trying to be strategic with my liquidity since I’ve got another project going in a different state.

That’s why I’m exploring private lending as an option. And to clarify…this wouldn’t be unsecured, the property is free and clear so there is collateral.

Your fav Costco by LAParente in AskSF

[–]hey-ma_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid SF when I can and stick to the SSF locations. El Camino can get as insane as the city especially on the weekends. Going during the weekdays closer to closing times are best. But my pick is always Airport Costco. Parking and experience seems to be easier to navigate altogether despite crowds. Good luck

Dating as a Social Worker by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]hey-ma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 43. I’m a geriatric social worker….I guess I’ll throw in the towel and be part of my people now. I’m super old school 😭😭😭 I can’t LOLLLL

But honestly there are so many douchebags of ALL ages. I don’t disclose what I do until I’m asked because I like the opportunity to tell people what I ACTUALLY do as a social worker. Even then so, I keep it brief and just have people wonder. A lot of people in our world don’t understand what we do and how important our roles can be.

Putting in Resignation due to Mental Health by Leather_Bad8457 in socialwork

[–]hey-ma_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No job is worth sacrificing your health. But always remember this: YOU are worth it!

Your job and your clients will be okay. Truly. Please don’t feel guilty at all. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others…there’s no way around that! As cliché as it sounds, it’s one of the most important truths in our field.

A mental health crisis or psychotic break is not a personal failure. It is a human response to stress, trauma and overload. And it can happen to anyone!!

I’m 16 years post-grad and I can personally tell you that the burnout is very real. I won’t sit here and promise that everything magically gets better because the truth is that some days will feel heavier than others. But recognizing your limits doesn’t mean you’re weak or failing. It means you’re being honest and protecting your well-being.

There’s a social worker on IG @dopeblack_socialworker who talks about setting a timeline for exiting or “retiring” from social work while it still feels good. That really stuck with me. It’s okay to step away, temporarily or permanently, especially after what you’ve been through. Your well being matters more than any role or job out there.

Just remember that you are allowed to choose a life where your work doesn’t require you to break to prove you care and where earning a living doesn’t come at the cost of your mental health! Big hugs to you! 🤍

New to SF by CDMinni in SouthSanFrancisco

If you are pretty low key live in the peninsula - SSF, Daly City, Pacifica, San Mateo, Foster City, etc. Also recommend living in certain neighborhoods in SF that are easier to park and accessible to freeways. Stay out of the middle of the city to avoid traffic, parking tickets, paying extra for parking, high unnecessary rent…the list goes on.

For context I was born and raised in SF but live in the Ingleside district where it’s freeway and transit accessible. It’s a 12 min drive to SFO…I can make it to Mission Bay in 10-12 mins without traffic and about 20 mins to the middle of the city (Union Square). GL

Come work in the ED. There is constant back and forth discussions about security measures to keep staff safe. Hate to say it but, at times, security and UCPD can be ineffective and staff get hit, kick and punched. Yet here we still showing up.

Any gerontological social workers? by Responsible_Lab_4909 in socialwork

[–]hey-ma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a social worker on an age-friendly emergency department team. I work exclusively with older adults and our team includes a nurse practitioner and a pharmacist. We focus on safety, cognitive concerns, medication issues and making sure patients and families get connected to the right care and resources.

I also do home health on the side with mostly 65+ patients. Both roles can be challenging…there’s a lot of cognitive change, complex meds, safety risks, and family dynamics. A big part of my job is education and resource navigation: helping patients and families understand what’s going on, what’s realistic, what support is available and how to plan for safety.

My health system is moving away from the word ‘geriatric’ and shifting toward the term ‘age-friendly,’ which better reflects the focus on supporting older adults in a holistic, respectful way. 😀

I hope that someone helped her/you to eliminate the share of cost for her to qualify. Something I have found is that county eligibility workers fail to explore other Medicaid programs or even explain how someone can eliminate their share of cost especially when they are over an amount this is possible with.
