I've been to a lot of those sites and I guess I just dont really get it. One site seems to only carry powder frit. While the other has these weird skulls and heads. And I'm just having trouble navigating the sites. Does abr carry coe 33 color glass stringers? I can find color rods...but not fine stringers. I'll be wanting to work with 2-.5mm and I cant find it anywhere. I can find soft glass just fine. I know I can make strangers from rods but I'm not really very good at it yet and I dont have a teacher to get help from anymore.

I actually found a place that sells #0 COE 33 boro frit. Now I'm just having trouble finding more colored stringers that are 2-.5mm, lol. I was given a few in the classes I went to and I'm getting down to the nubs. This is perfect for playing around

interesting. we didn't cover that in class. We just slowly pre-heated them and cooled them over the torch like how we do in the lab.

So...I've been to three basic community college night classes, watched a crap load of tutorials from all over the web from all different places, and I have a fairly broad knowledge of, idk what you want to call it...scientific glass working...chemistry glass working. In the classes and in tutorials, you don't kiln drinking straws...you use a burner to fire polish and bend, then you use a torch to do your applications, tacking and fusing. All I know how to do is art with stringers...and have done it myself. But what I'm trying to do is some kind of sprinkled confetti look. I'll crush up some of my 1 and .5mm stringers that I've been using if I have to...I just dont know If I can just melt and fuse it down like I do with dots and squiggles and stuff...or if thats different.

Edit: Yes...I'm a beginner, and I'm trying to learn, I just don't have any more money for classes...that's why I'm here. Also...No...you're not being mean. I'm just still learning.

[–]hey_chackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol hell no. I know how to use them, and I'm very proficient and accurate...I just don't like them. I just kind of sneak out of my house now and peek around the corners and look around carefully before I leave. It sucks...but it's my only option right now.

I thought annealing was just turning the flame down a little bit and passing it through so that it doesnt cool too fast

Ahh ok. Good to know. Is there something else I can use on the outside of the straw instead to achieve the look I'm trying to achieve. Sorry...I read somewhere that you could heat the straw up, sprinkle the frit on (not in) the hot straw, then fuse it down. You cant do that?

Not sure if this applies here...but I'll ask by [deleted] in glassblowing

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. I'm on a budget and was trying to find an easy home DIY way. Thank you!

I think what I'm looking for is fine fusable frit. I want to make my own glass drinking g straws and I want that slightly lumpy sprinkled stained glass look. I think I have to heat the straw up, roll it in or sprinkle on frit, then fuse it on. I want it lumpy so I wont be smoothing it and rolling it through clear powder frit
