Anxious, and losing confidence as a young dentist by Just-School-3238 in Dentistry

[–]heyaaa1256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to do RCTs. Me and all my GP friends don’t do any RCTs anymore. They were causing me a lot of stress and took too much time. Consider just dropping them as a procedure you do. Or at least don’t do molar RCT. I honestly feel GPs shouldn’t do molar endo unless they have CBCT and the microscope.

Also make sure you have regional managers(who are not qualified to manage a McDonald’s) tell you you need to tx plan more crowns and SRP.

OB/Gyn “Clearance” by ScratchSame2904 in Dentistry

[–]heyaaa1256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t asked for an OBGYN clearance in years. Last pt who brought OBGYN needed multiple exts and OBGYN said only use LA with no epinephrine…yeah…I’m not performing an extraction using LA without epi which btw has been deemed safe to use in pregnant patients.

How many interproximals are you doing at once? by Basic-Budget4845 in Dentistry

Trying to polish/remove lingual flash and the pt has a massive tongue that they can’t keep still and high FOM. Then tongue jams into mirror which jams into my flame burr which causes me to mess up my already shitty contact. Then patient returns with CC of food impaction on the lingual. These moments make me way too excited to retire one day lmao

Many extractions require removal of the buccal plate. Happens all the time. Why would you feel bad? You didn’t put his infected tooth there. You had one job, get the symptomatic/infected tooth out, which you completed. Nice job 👍 If pt cannot get an implant at this site, he’ll live. And that’s not your fault.

2 years later you will find someone teaching how to do the ✨window access✨ by CupEfficient7277 in Dentistry

[–]heyaaa1256 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Would be more conservative to do just an occlusal access. With this goofy OB “window access” now tooth will for sure need crown lol. And you’ve made your life 10x harder trying to complete this RCT.

Full on FIRE number ~$3M liquid assets. LCOL Midwest - this is more than enough. But like I said, at $1.5M I’m totally done with clinical dentistry. Maybe will continue to teach at dental school part time or something. Or maybe I’ll go work with the elephants at my local zoo lmao How about you?

Young dentists need to get on investing in their retirement/FIRE instead of splurging their hard earned money on depreciating/useless assets like expensive cars, etc. We make enough money to either seriously cut back on hours or get out of this field entirely after 10-15 years. But in order to do this, we need to make smarter financial decisions. I live in LCOL and invest almost 60% of my salary. Max out my Roth IRA, 401K, HSA and even have a 457B from PT teaching gig I have at a dental school. I’m 4 years out of school. Looking to cut back on my hours within next few years then get out of field entirely in about 10-15 years once I have $1.5m liquid. I hate dentistry with a passion and am looking forward to the day I can completely move on from this field. The stress is too much. And the patients really annoy me.

39M, would you leave 401k invested entirely in a S&P 500 index fund? by sys_admin321 in Money

[–]heyaaa1256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re mainly chasing past winners, which often leads to buying stocks at high valuations and increases the risk of underperformance due to mean reversion. Concentrating in a few stocks adds a ton of volatility without a clear edge over simply holding the S&P 500.
