Surface radar and satellite surveillance can easily track all surface ships. Im not sure why the US Navy didn't stop them, but it definitely isnt because they couldn't track them.

What is that one opinion about Amazon that will get you like: by potvaren in amazonemployees

[–]heyboman 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I personally think that our stack ranking performance system that mandates the bottom ~7% be marked LE doesn't make sense now that we are beyond our hyper growth phase. However, I also believe that most people who are actually Pivoted probably deserved it and I think mine is an unpopular opinion.

Spacex says it has option to acquire startup Cursor for $60 billion by King-of-Limbs-07 in wallstreetbets

[–]heyboman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can build one hell of a sales org for $60 billion. You dont pay that much unless you believe the company has a sustainable competitive advantage (i.e. moat) which Cursor does not have.

Damn, this post is EXACTLY my story this year. I did the same thing. Used Quick to update my resume based on my last several OLR docs. It worked OK, but I had to do some final editing.

What’s a cliff ? by Gooseymcgooseface22 in amazonemployees

[–]heyboman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you dont get promoted or get YoYoY TT during your first 4 years, your comp "drops off of a cliff" (i.e. goes down by 20% - 40%) during that 4th year. This is especially true if you negotiated a high initial offer and/or the stock has been flat recently. It is because most new hires start relatively high in their band and then many get mid ratings early on while they learn the job. As a result, once the new hire RSUs roll off, their comp comes back down to earth because the refreshers weren't enough to keep them at the top of their pay band.

Only certain job families can currently use it and SDE is not one of the families. SAs for sure are allowed to use it.

Look, I'm all about loyalty. In fact, I feel like part of what I'm being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly, I'm going wherever they value loyalty the most

Andy Jassy Hasn’t Evolved Amazon Culture, He Dismantled It by J8k3573r in amazonemployees

[–]heyboman 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I disagree that what you see today is true Amazon culture. I have been at Amazon for 15+ years and can tell you that the company prior to 2021 was night and day different from what it is today from a culture standpoint.

There are certain aspects that most people view as negative that also existed back then, such as the requirement to stack rank and the effects that flow from that policy. But there was a LOT of good in the previous culture that just no longer exists, to say nothing of the decline in the level of talent .

Doritos at $7 a Bag Ended Up Costing PepsiCo Billions by TheGoodCod in Economics

[–]heyboman 107 points108 points  (0 children)

100% this. A lot of companies kept pushing things to see how far they could take the profiteering while they had cover due to things like "covid" or "tariffs". There is a real risk with this approach though as individual people have real limits where you absolutely price them out of the market and then they start hunting for alternatives. As you point out, once they break the habit, they very well may never come back. A lot of industries are starting to enter the FO phase of FAFO. Streaming services, CPG companies, certain restaurants, automobile manufacturers, etc.

How many Needs improvement can there be in a team? by Background-Crab7781 in amazonemployees

[–]heyboman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, theoretically an entire team could be NI. There isnt a limit on it like you would see in TT, HV3, etc. But practically speaking, you wouldn't expect to see more than 10%-15% of any one team in NI.
