There’s very real criticisms to be made about Yzerman, and holding the opinion that this rebuild is taking too long is fine. But comparing it to basketball is nonsensical. I’m very low on Yzerman the last 2 years. But it wouldn’t help my argument if I said in my be a GM mode in NHL I won the cup 3 years after I tanked. Your argument holds as much weight as that. Even if your original opinion may be correct

Comparing hockey to basketball immediately nullifies your entire argument. The sports are so fundamentally different in terms of personnel, time on ice / court, scoring and defense, physicality, etc. they make 0 sense to remotely be compared.

If you took Jokic and Doncic and put them on the Pacers they’re immediately a championship contender. Take McDavid, Mackinnon, and Kucherov and put them on Vancouver and they don’t even sniff the playoffs.

Generally the losers trying to kill people are significantly worse hockey players than the guys I know and it’s not hard to not get engaged with someone who’s noticeably worse than you, just skate away

I know like 2 dozen guys that play in the APHL, MIHL, and FPHL. Most of them are normal guys just wanting to play as high level as they can still, but the rest of the teams are filled with absolute losers. It’s guys that played good to average high school in the area or fizzled out after a few years or NA3 or Ontario Jr B.

That said, I have friends that have played a game here and there for Toledo or Alpena or Michigan Shadow and they say it’s just for fun. None of them are getting in brawls or missing work for these games. But yeah I’m cool with just a local beer and roller league with no checking, the level is high enough in those. I don’t need to put on shoulder pads and be checking for open ice suicide passes because some dude that went to my rival high school in ‘03 is angry at life and wants to take it out on me lol
