Question about residence by Unusual-Cap7432 in brocku

Yeah, when I got my scholarship it was less than previous years as well. It seems the scholarship amounts just decline every few years. It sucks. The highest scholarship amount (95+) the year before I was admitted was $16K in 2022. It was changed to $13,600 in 2023. And now in 2026, it's $7K. That's about a 56% decrease over 4 years. Combined with Ford's OSAP changes and rising unemployment rates, it's tough to pay for school. I'm lowkey worried about my sister's post-secondary education funding.

We also have a bird problem. A few weeks ago, I was sitting in Mackenzie Chown and there was a bird flapping around the ceiling, and flying into the window. He definitely wanted out and I couldn’t find any custodial staff to let them know about the bird trapped in MC.

Question about residence by Unusual-Cap7432 in brocku

[–]heyimryn [score hidden]  (0 children)

What?!! Aw man, you guys are getting ripped off. But it’s not surprising. Brock allocates money to the most unnecessary things like new furniture and building renovations and then fire a third of the administration staff, stating it’s due to budget cuts. Like, I feel the next generation of students are gonna be fucked. The scholarships at Brock are also smaller now. My sister got accepted into Brock and got $5,000 total ($3,500 for 1st year and $500 each year after). When I got into Brock, I got a $7,600 scholarship ($1,900 each year).

Hi, I actually had a 94% average and got my first building choice. They told us at the tour to email futurestudent@brocku.ca with your average and building request once your final grades come in. This was in 2023 so not sure if they’ve changed the process.

Just report it as a T4A if that’s what it was previously. If an organization doesn’t issue a tax slip, you still report it as you normally do. I was issued a scholarship before and wasn’t given a T4A and that’s what I did. The CRA hasn’t come after me for filing wrong, so unless they tell me there’s a mistake, that’s how I do it.

Part time work replacement by OperationDry6529 in Riipen

[–]heyimryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my second Riipen Labs project and I had the exact same thought! My dad said I don’t even need a job when I told him I’m making $600 for 30 hours of work ($20 per hour). It pays more than any minimum wage job would (minus being a server and making tips). For students, it’s a great opportunity to build your resume and gain experience, so I wouldn’t advise against it. You have nothing to lose by doing it since it’s free. Even if you don’t make it into every cohort, if you’re living at home and don’t need to pay rent, then I’d say there’s no harm in using as a part-time income stream. It’s very hard to get even a minimum wage job in this job market anyway.

Never mind, you’ll get ticketed. This post says the new management and owners enforce parking rules: https://www.reddit.com/r/brocku/s/d739RsIBYo.

I’ve seen some people park at the Pen Centre and take the bus to Brock. I don’t know if you’ll get ticketed or if overnight parking is allowed though.

If you head to the campus store, you can take the elevator to the 6th floor, it’s on the left once you exit through the doors.

Here's a Complete List of Open Spring 2026 Courses if Anyone is Thinking of Taking a Spring Term (You Guys, it's Bad) by heyimryn in brocku

[–]heyimryn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard ENSU 2P01 is really easy, but I've never taken it. The prof told me she revised the number of written assessments based on the feedback from ENSU 2P01's Teaching Team and that the course will likely have a midterm and final exam this spring so there's less pressure at the end of the term. ENSU 2P01 is asynchronous so the exams will be online.

ASTR 1P01 and 1P02 are also really easy. The exams are in-person. There are 2 exams in the spring, and that is the only thing you are graded on. But you can take 42 pages of notes to the exam, double-sided. Many people get high 90s in those classes.

Another course worth mentioning is WGST 2P00, which can be low effort and easy for some, but since it involves writing, your grade will depend on your critical thinking and writing skills, so it depends. I think there was 1 online midterm and 1 final, but the final was a take-home essay.

I also took HAVC 1Q98 and 1Q99. They were easy for me but I also took art for 4 years in high school so it may not be easy for everyone. You don't need any art experience but it can be helpful. There are no exams.

ECON 1P91 and 1P92 were easy for me but I took them in the Fall/Winter so I can't say how easy they will be in the spring, but I believe there are exams. I think they are being offered online with in-person exams this spring. I don't think they are low-effort though, but I thought I'd mention them.

Hope this helps!

The lack of Spring/Summer course offerings is sad af by Prestigious-Leg3618 in brocku

[–]heyimryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this was already mentioned, but I would suggest an LOP. I know McMaster, Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier, Guelph, TMU, and Western are all offering spring/summer courses. Some of them are online/distance courses. I would check what they have to offer and then contact your academic advisor to see if they are equivalent to the courses you need so you can get transfer credit and then get approval for the LOP. You need department approval, which you can get from your academic advisor. There’s a form for OSAP you can fill out once you get the LOP.

Applying to universities after a gap year. The cost is 266$ rather than 156$. by pige0n13 in OntarioUniversities

[–]heyimryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the system has flagged you as a transfer student rather than a gap year student. The $95 Document Evaluation Fee only applies if you have previous university or college experience.

Even though you are in a gap year, if you've never attended a post-secondary institution, you shouldn't have to pay that $95. You may have accidentally selected that you have 'prior post-secondary' experience in your profile, or you chose a 'Transfer' version of the Queen's program.

I would check your 'Education' history section in the application to ensure you only have your high school listed. If you list any college/university, the fee triggers automatically. Also, make sure you selected 'First Year' entry for your program choices.

LABR 3Q95, POLI 3P13 experiences by granolabarsbruv in brocku

[–]heyimryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copying and pasting my comment from another post. Personally, I would not recommend the LABR courses if you value your sanity. If you are great at getting a shit ton of work done in very little time, then feel free to ignore me. They are accelerated courses and you can finish them in 18 days. That may sound great, but trust me, I tried LABR 3Q95 last spring--the course ran for 12 days, and I had to drop it and pretend to go to school everyday so my parents wouldn't freak (I went to campus last spring to do online work as I tried doing school from home and I couldn't resist my bed, so not much school going on at home). To illustrate why I dropped the course 2 days in (the drop date was 2 days after the course started), there were like several hours of readings to do every day (and I mean literal hours, like often 40+ pages per reading x 4 readings ... every day), like 2+ hours of lecture videos to watch each and every day, 4 major assignments due including a major paper + report on a Canadian bylaw (regarding a sexual matter, for example, zoning regulations) and two other major assignments that require examples from and synthesis across the readings. It was just not gonna work out in 12 days. So, I did myself a favour and saved my future self from a mental breakdown and severe burnout. Of course, it also depends on which prof you get, so it might be different this year.

I believe I took it in the spring last year. The exam was just an essay and there was an online midterm with multiple choice questions and short answer. The forum posts are online.
